So an update - the system is mostly set up and working ok! The Seplos BMS is working well. The only real issue I had was that my sytem is set up in 2x packs and the link cable between them was too long, and causing a higher voltage on the first cell of the second pack. I rewired the pack...

The current HA setup. The ME3000SP is a work-in-progress, I'm still figuring out the modbus registers.
  • Post in thread: Seplos CAN BUS RS485 48v 200A 8S-16S BMS

Yes the SOC was calibrated when I built it, although the instructions were no more detailed than your text above :D It didn't explain what I have now deduced, that "100%" is met by either the pack/total voltage being reached OR I think multiple individual cell voltage cutoffs in a certain...

I don't think Pylontech use Seplos, but it's possible. It's not the only BMS that will work, the CAN protocol seems to be fairly common between models so I'd think anything that supports the Pylontech protocol would work. I can't remember the other main one, I'm sure it is mentioned elsewhere...

The ME3000SP? It's a not a solar inverter, it's purely AC input/output. It comes with CT clamp so you can set it up to detect and charge export, but you can use it standalone too, and have time based overrides etc, or just control it using the serial/CAN interface.

I have a bit of SOC drift on my Seplos, reading in here I think it's because I usually only charge to 90%, and a 100% charge will cause it to wait until cell voltages hit limits? I have previously adjusted the SOC to get it to hit them, but I think that is in fact unnecessary?! I think going...
  • Post in thread: Off peak grid tied storage with ac coupled inverter

To update this, I decided on the Sofar ME3000SP since there's several ESP8266/32 integrations to monitor and control it, and there's plenty of people who have used it with LiFePO4 so I shouldn't need to do much work to get it set up. It's not currently in stock anywhere in the UK but the...
  • Post in thread: Off peak grid tied storage with ac coupled inverter

I'm not sure to be honest! I'd strongly recommend not even trying though, a BMS with inverter communications will take a huge amount of guesswork and risk out of the equation. The main reason is that if the BMS detects a cell or temperature out of spec it shuts off and tells the inverter which...

It seems nobody still really knows exactly how much is needed, but from what I've been reading plywood would be good enough really. I mainly wanted something I could easily move around. Plan is to make some rails with skateboard bearings so I can slide it into a narrow area at the bottom of a...

The M3000SP can be used without a BMS, but I believe you need to run it in lead-acid mode and manually set the various parameters, there are guides online. This is a very inferior setup to having a BMS with CAN/RS485 though, and others have mentioned that it's a bit of a pain to manage. With the...

Yes, that's exactly what I will be doing, I have a Growatt inverter myself too, it should work exactly as you say. The BMS is not absolutely required for a system to work, but it monitors the voltage of each individual cell and balances the charge, to prevent overcharging or excessive...
  • Post in thread: Off peak grid tied storage with ac coupled inverter

Been reading about the possible blackouts over the winter? :D It's trundling along! I just managed to get hold of an ME3000SP, it's a "refurbished" one from south-west-renewables on ebay, although I have a pre-order in for a brand new one from a supplier too. I THINK it should be able to do...
  • Post in thread: Off peak grid tied storage with ac coupled inverter

It's not required, I believe the ME3000 can work independently, the other option is a bridging device (ESP8266/32). However I then read that the Seplos BMS is the best solution and have pre-ordered one when they are back in stock. As a general update, I bought a used ME3000SP, and then my...

I am doing exactly the same research at the moment, and don't seem to have a firm handle on what is a good grid-tied inverter for relatively small "DIY" type packs (also specifically to the UK). I mainly want to shift spare solar generation to the batteries (using Home Assistant to monitor...
