New guy building a solar pontoon

I have a plywood boat as well. Skiffamerica 20. I didn't build it myself, but the plans are great and very detailed.

New guy building a solar pontoon

Right now there's a single 48v 100ah Lifepo4 battery for the outboard. The panels have, on occasion, produced well over 900 watts on a good day. I have a 12v battery with a 100w flexible panel. That's used for the lights, horn, stereo. The solar won't keep up at cruising speed, but for my...

New guy building a solar pontoon

I only had room for 2 Jinko 405w panels. They were $215 each plus tax from McNaughton McKay. They have a warehouse not far from me.

It's been in the water all summer. It works great. No need to ever plug in.

    Boat/RV power

I just finished my solar pontoon with a 9.9 electric outboard if you need any ideas. Post in thread 'Plans for solar boat (input welcome)' https://diysolarforum.com/threads/plans-for-solar-boat-input-welcome.35659/post-519804

Plans for solar boat (input welcome)

It's done and in the water. Motor is an Elco 9.9. 48v 100ah Eg4 battery from signature solar. 2 Jinko 405w panels because the top is only 8' long. They hang off the back a little, but I wanted room for the 100w panel on the front for my 12v accessories battery. I haven't tested it much yet. I...

Plans for solar boat (input welcome)

The difference in speed between 1/3 throttle and full throttle is not bad and will draw a lot less power. Then I'll either be anchored at the swimming hole or back at the cottage because the kids are bored ?

Plans for solar boat (input welcome)

True. I already have the bmv712 so I figured it would be nice to have that display right at the helm and it can also monitor the voltage of a second battery. I'll have a 12v system installed in the helm for lights, radio, etc.

The panels will be wired in series

Plans for solar boat (input welcome)

That dc breaker is rated to 250v and will be my solar disconnect. I originally was going to use a 48v surface mount breaker between charge controller and battery, but they are not designed for a 48v nominal system so I figured good fuses would be better there. That way I can use the proper size...

Plans for solar boat (input welcome)

I'm no artist, but I'm trying to finalize my plans for my electric pontoon. Any advise or ideas are welcome. I've done away with the surface mount breaker idea as they are rated for 48v max. This will all be under the rear bench seat on the boat.

48v breaker/fuse between charge controller and battery

When it's between the charge controller and the battery which wire is the live positive wire? Sorry for all the questions, but this seems the best place to ask.

48v breaker/fuse between charge controller and battery

I have one of those between my panels and charge controller for a pv disconnect. Can I use the single pole dc breaker on the positive wire between the charge controller and battery and does it matter which direction it's wired? I'd like to put it in the same waterproof enclosure that I'm...

48v breaker/fuse between charge controller and battery

I'm building a solar pontoon over the winter and I'm gathering all the equipment I need. I have 2 Jinko 405w panels going through a 2 pole breaker/disconnect and into a Victron 150/35 solar charge controller. What type of breaker or fuse and switch should I use between the SCC and my 48v...

New guy building a solar pontoon

So far I have 2 jinko 405 watt panels in series, victron 150/35 scc and an Elco 9.9 48v outboard. I don't have a battery yet, but I'm eyeballing the 48v 100ah waterproof eg4 at signature solar. My 12v accessories will be on a separate, smaller system.
