  • Post in thread: Solar and the Economy Your Thoughts??? Or anything else on your mind!

I believe that it is a worthwhile investment. I wanted to upgrade my power connection from single phase to three phase here in Australia. It is 10 meters from my private pole to the pole transformer on an 11KV pole. Due to our corrupt ASP system here in Australia where you buy the assets and...
  • Post in thread: 12V pumping station

Hello All Thought I would quickly share my pumping station build. This is to run a 700W inverter controlled pump to run my house from a tank. The issues I have were twofold. Firstly it was a long way to pull a cable to run the pump, and secondly when we lose power, which happens a bit, we also...
  • Post in thread: Got Tractor?

I have a Kubota BX25D with a 60" Mid mount mower. Machine has been awesome and worked well for us. Only issue was a rod connecting the HST pedals to the HST came loose, and it is in an awful location to refit the locking nut. I call it my diesel Swiss Army knife. Only costs me diesel and time now.
  • Post in thread: New to this forum from SE South Australia

Welcome from Sydney. Like you have dabbled in solar a bit but know there is always more to learn.
  • Post in thread: UK Victron ESS, 2 x 48/3000 and 14.5Kwh DIY LIFEPO4 (work in progress)

Looking nice. Did you get the USB adaptor at all, you'll need it to program the Multiplus with the ESS assistant in VE Config. I'm guessing the second Multiplus is going to assist the first one, or are you doing parallel operation/split phase?
  • Post in thread: SOC drops consistantly with no drain.

Do you have anything connected between the shunt and the battery. If so you will have a battery drain that is not captured by the shunt as a load and will not adjust the SOC.
  • Post in thread: New offgrid system for a water pump.

Thanks for the response. As it was next to a 110,000 litre tank I was thinking of using tank level sensors but haven't found anything that works well with that volume. Main reason I was looking at the Povo pack Cerbo. Will add a smartshunt and a 3rd cable to the mix.
  • Post in thread: Grid Tie Victron ESS with DIY LiFePO4 Battery in Australia - Regulatory Issues?

I'm still learning here so could have this all back to front :) Looking at the possibilities of doing something like this as well. My only question is whether the Multiplus can be connected to the grid of if it is only not allowed to export to the grid. My understanding of the Multiplus is...
  • Post in thread: Grid Tie Victron ESS with DIY LiFePO4 Battery in Australia - Regulatory Issues?

On a separate note I spoke with a designer here in Australia and was advised that setting up a Victron ESS system with a Multiplus was achievable here in Australia. They advised having the grid tie inverter at the end of the chain and then the Multiplus with a grid connection. The objective was...
  • Post in thread: Gobel Power Grade B 280AH 16s Rack... more $ than EG4 Power Pro

Hi there I was looking forward to Andy reviewing this battery due to the inbuilt active balancer. However, it appears that the inbuilt balancer runs all the time so you need to specify the 4A Bluetooth balancer so that you can set the balancing voltage, unless there is a way to put in a...
  • Post in thread: New member from Sydney Australia

Hi everyone Hi from Sydney, Australia, for now. I am moving 2hrs north of Sydney to a rural property with a shed that I have built a few years ago. At the moment I am building a small 12V system to run a DC pump and some LED lights. However the grand plan is to go to 48V and run my 40ft x 50ft...
  • Post in thread: Victron Cerbo gx vs Cerbo s ?

Hi there Thought I would tack my question onto the back of this thread. The system I am building is going to be remote and offgrid with no access to a wifi signal. Will either Cerbo work with a USB 3G/4G modem for its access to the outside world. Graham
  • Post in thread: New offgrid system for a water pump.

Hi everyone, I am getting ready to kick off a system to run my water pump that supplies my new build house. I am currently building an acreage house north of Newcastle in Australia. As part of the project we will be on tank water collected from rainfall off the roof of the house. I have the...
  • Post in thread: Grid Tie Victron ESS with DIY LiFePO4 Battery in Australia - Regulatory Issues?

What communication standard would the PV and Multiplus be using to control the PV inverter? if it can't control on the AC out by frequency shifting then that will be a challenge to me as the PV and Multiplus will be ~40m apart in my desired installation.
  • Post in thread: Grid Tie Victron ESS with DIY LiFePO4 Battery in Australia - Regulatory Issues?

I would like to have the capability to utilize the Fronius in a grid outage or isolated arrangement. If I end up going to Amber as my provider there are times I wont want to use the grid at all, and other times where I will utilize the grid connection.
  • Post in thread: Grid Tie Victron ESS with DIY LiFePO4 Battery in Australia - Regulatory Issues?

Good Idea mate I will. Since its going to be CAT6 will pull a few pairs through. It will all be in conduit as well. I also have to pull through a few cables to do what I want to do with the ESS system.
  • Post in thread: Amy Shenzen Luyuan Lost Shipment

Hi there I am also following this with interest. I got a few things quoted on Alibaba in regard to the batteries but the listed price on Ali was nowhere near what was being quoted to me, to the point it was looking like some bait and switch tactics were being used. Depending on how I proceed I...
  • Post in thread: Grid Tie Victron ESS with DIY LiFePO4 Battery in Australia - Regulatory Issues?

So I will have to provide a direct connection between the Fronius and the Cerbo. Might have to pull some Cat6 when I do the cable runs to my shed.
  • Post in thread: Purchasing from Australia for first battery build?

There is a Mueller BMS that is made in Australia for a 4s 12V system which is supposed to be quite good. If you upgrade to 8 cells you could do 12V at 560AH.
  • Post in thread: Grid Tie Victron ESS with DIY LiFePO4 Battery in Australia - Regulatory Issues?

I think the main issue is not that the inverter itself is compliant but rather that Victron have not made any application to the CEC for approval for this inverter to interact with the grid. In my opinion the CEC is a body that really should be given a new mandate as they seem to offer opinions...
  • Post in thread: Victron 24v inverter recommendations - 100% off grid shop

Just as a separate consideration, the Quattro will allow for a grid and a generator connection. However, a Multiplus with just the single AC connection may suit your needs as you are already off grid and all you need is a way to bring in a backup generator to top up batteries or handle a large...
  • Post in thread: Amy Shenzen Luyuan Lost Shipment

If you dont mind me asking what were your landed costs on average? I would probably do 1 x 16 to get started that way i can build my system while waiting for the consecutive orders.
  • Post in thread: Grid Tie Victron ESS with DIY LiFePO4 Battery in Australia - Regulatory Issues?

I have given thought about the back feeding, and I do think that there is a bit of hype in regard to back feeding. For example, i have a 230V connection which comes direct from my Pole Transformer, and then the primary side of the PT is connected to an 11KV supply. I'm happy to be corrected if I...
  • Post in thread: Amy Shenzen Luyuan Lost Shipment

Thank you so much for sharing. Much appreciated.
  • Post in thread: Connecting 48v battery to High Voltage HV hybrid inverter

Depending on your grid tied inverter there is usually a phase imbalance in domestic housing where 3 phase is being used. You will find that one of your phases is doing the lions share of the work when it comes to providing power to your house. You may be able to battery back up this phase. Best...
  • Post in thread: Grid Tie Victron ESS with DIY LiFePO4 Battery in Australia - Regulatory Issues?

Yes this is similar to what I am thinking, except for figuring out the grid protection relay. There may also be an ~40m cable run between the Fronius and the Victron gear as the house will most probably get the grid connected stuff while the 14m x 14m shed and awning gets the offgrid gear.
  • Post in thread: Solar Diversion to Water Heater - No Grid Export

Hi there In Australia there is a device called a catch relay, which kicks in when your solar generation or export gets over a certain amount. Its simple and doesn't require a lot of work. There must be something similar overseas?
