  • Post in thread: RV solar pre-wire is THHN, connection question

Thank you, I think I’ll try the DC disconnect. There is no fridge vent. With the Nova Kool 6406, there is no venting, roof or side. (compressor). I deleted the skylight and the roof rack as well for more solar real estate. Thanks again for the solution!
  • Post in thread: Curved Roof Rigid Panel Mounting Help

What I did. Fiberglass roof, doubled up on the standard mounts, VHB tape, Gorilla tape over the top, no drilling into the roof at all. Thick 14 inch zip ties, creating a mounting angle. Just another option…. 200s in the rear, 160s in the mid section.
  • Post in thread: Truth behind Chins batteries

Thank you, what you just explained was what my gut has been telling me. Send a nice battery to be reviewed and then crank up the assembly line to give the people what they want, but may or may not get. The lower end is such a crapshoot. Not to say there aren’t deals to be had, but I’ll just...
  • Post in thread: SOK or Epoch a good mid range choice?

Dooug, it is a long box model. It sounds like you know your way around a Bigfoot. It is under construction now with a November delivery date. I am having Grant (owner) delete both the skylight and the roof rack. Going with (3) 200s on the roof. No A/C, just 2 Fantastic fans, (bunk and...
  • Post in thread: Is my little RV 4 panel set up considered 2s3p?

I have (2) 12 volt 160s and (2) 24 volt 200s. The 160s are series’d as one, and the 200s are in parallel. Combining the 3 individually fused positives and also branching together the negatives into the 6 gauge wire dropping down to the 100/50. The panels play well together as the Vmps are...
  • Post in thread: RV Inverter

A few months ago I did some research on cheaper inverters. For my truck camper, knowing the duty cycle will be light, idle draw not applicable, the Giandel is relatively well received. I haven’t installed it yet, but did bench test it, seems fine. Comes with a wired remote, nice for my use...
  • Post in thread: Epoch customer service

In the same boat. Ordered a basic 300ah battery in late December. Get an occasional note with a new ETA, (pushed out another month) but for the most part, crickets. Getting close to requesting a refund and going a different direction.
  • Post in thread: RV solar pre-wire is THHN, connection question

Just read a comment from Victron about THHN (or maybe it was a solid wire end) not being a good match for screw down terminals, like on my 100/50 SCC due to not being squishable (my term) for good contact area. Well, my camper came with 6 gauge THHN from the roof straight down to below the sink...

Ok, it didn’t sound quite right, just didn’t know. Thank you for that!
  • Post in thread: SOK or Epoch a good mid range choice?

First of all, thanks for the insight. I do envy you guys who aren’t afraid to open up a battery and swap out the BMS. That’s not me. Think beginner drop in battery. User serviceable? Probably never going to open one up. In my eyes you guys are all EEs. I get rattled by the spark of the...
  • Post in thread: Curved Roof Rigid Panel Mounting Help

I used double thickness on mine, primarily to help compensate for any deviations in getting my mounts to lay flat. Not sure if that’s advisable or not, but it seems fine. I used 3M 4950 and 8 mounts per panel. Cheap upcharge for peace of mind.
  • Post in thread: Footprint hero likes version 1 but not version 2, Why?

The roof area of the RV has room for 2 160 watt panels, and 2 200 watt panels. 4 panels total. specs: Vmp/Imp 12 volt 160 watt: 18.53/8.66 12 volt 200 watt: 18.60/10.76 Version 1: simple 2s2p, Footprint hero says great!, losing only 0.21% less than 1 watt. 720 down to 719. Version 2: BUT...
  • Post in thread: RV roof + 24v panels + Victron 100/50 for a 12 volt system?

Bigfoot truck camper coming soon, have room for (3) 200 watt panels. My limited experience has been 3 prior RVs, all with 12 volt panels and systems, self installed. 8 gauge solar pre wire installed. Looking at 600 watts solar and 3-400ah Lifepo4 with a Victron 100/50 MPPT. Question: would...
  • Post in thread: SOK or Epoch a good mid range choice?

Received my Epoch 300. Alas, I only have room for the one. Would love to have room for 2.
  • Post in thread: Footprint hero likes version 1 but not version 2, Why?

Thank you for that. Footprinthero.com is an online solar calculator that someone on here recommended. Happy to know it will work! So probably what, 10 amp fuses on the 24v 200s, and a single 15amp on the series’d 160s. Thanks again!
  • Post in thread: SOK or Epoch a good mid range choice?

I can’t afford the upper end such as Battleborn and Expion. Don’t want to have to troubleshoot the lower end, (got no skills). Or risk needing to return it for under performance. Looking at the SOK 280 and the Epoch 300, single battery for RV use. With apologies to Jo Dee Messina, are these...
  • Post in thread: Footprint hero likes version 1 but not version 2, Why?

Yeah, we just don’t use the camper in the winter. Just took delivery a month ago and just trying to get it rigged up for spring, summer and fall. 700+ watts should be fine for our use. A 12 volt dc fridge and a Keurig is about it. It’s just a small non slide truck camper, so don’t need much...
  • Post in thread: Footprint hero likes version 1 but not version 2, Why?

I do have a ladder. Might think about that…, but up here in Oregon if it gets warm you go up in the Cascades or to the coast. Ain’t got no A/C.
  • Post in thread: RV roof + 24v panels + Victron 100/50 for a 12 volt system?

thank you for the response/ good news. I’ll probably use 70-80ah per day and will recover some back during the day. Camping trips will only be 3-5 days at a time, so I don’t need to harvest a whole bunch when I’m out, if I start with a full charge. Only a few trips will I be deep in the...
  • Post in thread: RV roof + 24v panels + Victron 100/50 for a 12 volt system?

Yeah, the issue with +5v to start the controller was the impetus for the (3) 24 volt 200 watt panels, Rich Solar is one source I’ve looked at. I assume two 3 to 1 combiners with a fuse on the positive wire (20-30amp?) before it disappears down through the gland 8 feet to the battery compartment.
  • Post in thread: Interesting Battery: Epoch 300 AH (with coms.)

Interesting indeed! I have a truck camper being delivered in 60 days or so. There seems to be 2 versions of the 300 ah batteries, $1100 for the “basic” one including heating and a 200 BMS. Also a 300ah with heating, 300 BMS, and Victron communication ports,(whatever that means) for $1200...
  • Post in thread: SOK or Epoch a good mid range choice?

Yeah, I just don’t think 3 of the 100s would fit in the compartment, not even the mini’s. and as you mentioned there’s the cabling…. have not considered the 48v-12v conversion. Really want to keep it simple here.
  • Post in thread: Footprint hero likes version 1 but not version 2, Why?

The pictures are at my house, notice no tie downs? Just backing it into the shop, it was front in. Weighed it in the way home, about 3200 lbs. dry and winterized from the dealer. Just need to keep it under 4000 lbs. road ready.
