  • Post in thread: Adapter for using normal 16awg extension cord 110v-120v for solar?

I have a small 100w solar setup with a two 12v battery in parallel with about 560 wh capacity I was wondering, if I could somehow use an extension cord 16AWG to connect my panel to my charge controller to save me from having to plug my battery in next to the solar panel? I checked and 16AWG...
  • Post in thread: Trapezoidal wave inverters?

I was looking at some cheaper aliexpress "pure sine inverters" and saw feedback on one that showed a trapezoidal waveform and the buyer complained it wasn't pure sine. As far as I knew there were pure sine and modified sine waves, but trapezoidal was new to me. Anyone else have feedback on if...
  • Post in thread: Troubleshooting panels in series only showing voltage of single panel through mppt

I currently am running 4x 100w panels in series which roughly runs at about 80ish volts into this mppt charge controller https://powmr.com/solar-charge-controllers/mppt/powmr-60amps-12v-24v-36v-48v-mppt-solar-charge-controller/ The odd thing I have noticed though is, when i check in on my...

  • Post in thread: Trapezoidal wave inverters?

guessing this is just a MSW then? I ordered this https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002064389435.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.0.0.21ef1802xNLE4S and should arrive today or tomorrow. I'll try to test it this week on an oscilloscope and check for myself, but will let you guys know. I was just very...
  • Post in thread: Using a 20v wall wort ac dc adapter into my pwm charge controller

I was thinking about using a simple wall wort (its a 20v, 2 amp) and plugging it into my 12v PWM controller for my small setup to charge when solar is unavailable. I have one of those small power meters right before the PWM Solar input, but noticed when i connect the wall wort's positive and...
  • Post in thread: Adapter for using normal 16awg extension cord 110v-120v for solar?

Thanks for the wisdom. The run is about 50 feet or so and the voltage drop would be a concern. I'll see if I have a more heavy duty extension cord. I will definitely make sure polarity is dummy proof. Also the Nema to bare wire would work for the charge controller end.

  • Post in thread: Trapezoidal wave inverters?

So I'll close out this thread. I tested the inverter I got and confirmed it is a pure sine wave inverter. I did not have the guts to max out and test how many actual watts it can pull, but had it tested with an oscilloscope and had a nice clean sine wave.

so the "trapezoidal" curve may have been a red herring. The person who originally posted that picture may not have had their oscilloscope range set properly.
  • Post in thread: Allto MPPT Solar Charge Controller?

Has anyone had any experience with this small inexpensive MPPT Charge controller? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09S3PHNTQ/?coliid=I118U8QSO8AHWW&colid=5LGMID9NZOMV&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it It was the first one i've seen in this form factor and while its only 10a, it might be an interesting...
  • Post in thread: Questions with my DIY setup and charging via Car

Hey everyone. I have a DIY "solar generator" that I built (roughly 300-500wh of 12v lifepo4) and a PWM charge controller. If I wanted to charge it with my car through the 12v power socket, how does that work? What limits the amount of current demand my batteries will draw from the car? What...
  • Post in thread: Adapter for using normal 16awg extension cord 110v-120v for solar?

Oh good to know. My cable is a light duty indoor outdoor cable but it's either 50 or 100 feet so and at 16awg it's probably not worth using. I'll just spend the extra 2 minutes going to my panel
  • Post in thread: Trapezoidal wave inverters?

good to know. Thank you for chiming in. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase so far. We'll see how long that lasts haha

Sorry about the duplicate thread, i see similar threads in the suggested!
  • Post in thread: Adapter for using normal 16awg extension cord 110v-120v for solar?

My setup is fairly temporary, the panel sits on the lawn, and my batteries and charge controller are in a water-resistant box, that I usually put out in the morning and bring inside in the evening. This way, I reduce the risk of low temp charging as the batteries and box is room temp when I...
  • Post in thread: Lab bench power supply on modified sine wave?

I have a small 300w variable lab bench power supply, but was wondering if I could use it off a modified sine wave inverter? I'm just not sure a modified sine wave is stable enough. Anyone know if modified sine wave power would hurt my lab bench power supply?
