    SMA Sunny Boy capabilities

Sure. I have two Victron MultiPlus-II 3000VA inverters running in combined 240v mode. I also have a couple of victron autotransformers providing 120v output. I power one of the inverters with 120v from my generator during power outages. This provides some of the power; I have a limit on the...

    SMA Sunny Boy capabilities

An interesting side effect of having a flexible inverter/battery setup: I can run my enough of my home, including 240v well pump from a 3000 watt 120v inverter generator using an “assist” function of my inverters. Honestly I could likely run the house off the smallest Honda generator because...

If the price for 100kwh of batteries hit $1000 USD…

Unfortunately it seems like timing (or luck) plays a roll in the cost of even 2 identical batteries. There appears to be a large demand for cells which is reflected in the rising prices for a bare cell.

First timer - Thinking about 30,000 kwh ish system!

I also want to mention one other thing. Inflation. Getting what you can now helps you lock in the price you pay per kWh when it’s generated by you. I do not expect retail power prices to go down; PG&E is supposed to raise rates in California by 20-40% in the next several years. Obviously...

I don’t know the differences between the brands, but probably either can use micro invert but it is not mandatory for either of them. You could use a string inverter if you prefer. probably mostly depends on how important warranty is to you and how “used” the used panels are. Can I use used...

    SMA Sunny Boy capabilities

I just noticed this, it’s kind of vague: The Sunny Island can be operated in a time-controlled manner using a timer function (like a clock timer), supplying power at a planned point in time. This function must be activated by using the parameter "510.02 InvTmOpEna".

Hedges, do you know if the SMA Data Manager M could facilitate time shifting if used with the Sunny Islands?

The EV is the wildcard I think though. If you charge primarily at home and have a long commute that can add up to a lot of kWh’s really quick. I drive about 500-600 miles per week. That’s commute plus everything else.

It depends on the server (and the workload). I ran a DL580 HP and at idle it used in the neighborhood of 500 watts. The servers that I have with out of band pull around 20 watts while “off”. UPS units have a parasitic draw even just on but powering No load. I have some Eaton 1000’s and a...

Thanks, didn’t realize titles were mutable ?

So only a 10x drop from ampster’s cost. Would need UL approval to improve adoption.

I have 24kw usable right now for about $6k - bought used.

Anyone know why Victron is not pursuing residential in the US?

I don’t have experience yet with any other brand to make a comparison at this point in time.

Agree with others, the EV is the biggest wildcard. Depending on driving patterns, the number of kw to recharge daily could be tiny or gigantic. If you tow regularly with an EV (say you have a repair business with a small trailer and a new ford lightning) then all bets are off. TFL trucks on...
