  • Post in thread: Portable Ice Maker

Hi Guys, I'm trying to research if I can run an ice maker while camping to keep ice chest cold and for cold drinks. I only currently have 200w of solar so I can't run one all day long but maybe long enough to make enough ice. Anyone using a portable ice make like this? How much power are you...

Hey, thanks for all of the great answers. I haven't actually bought anything yet. I did just buy a new camper and I have 200Ah LFP batteries on order from China so I definitely want to use them to eliminate any need to drive to town to buy ice. I of course was considering a 12v cooler and I'm...

I was just looking to DIY a 100Ah battery and it seems like raw cell prices have gone up while the ready-made battery prices are dropping like crazy. This comes to $307.19 and claims to be rockin grade A cells. I don't think I can build one for that cheap. Grade B slow shipped from china and a...
  • Post in thread: Solar pool pump

Thanks for the inspiration. Can you link me to the pump you bought? Did that controller come with it? I'm getting ready to switch my pump to solar and I wasn't aware of a component between the panels and the pump.
  • Post in thread: Microwave for a 1200 watt inverter?

Hey guys, a while ago I built a 1200-watt system for camping. I would like to have a small microwave but I bought a 700 watt one from Walmart and it freakin pulled 1400 watts and tripped the inverter. And my bms is 1200 watts so a bigger inverter doesn't help. Anyone using a small microwave that...
  • Post in thread: Wire size needed for 12v fridge

I think you are right Mike. And thanks for everyone's replies. I think I will shorten the run and go with some 10 awg wire. The 12 volt plug the fridge came with is like 12 feet long anyway. I have been using 16 AWG to run a 12v electric blanket that seems to work fine, the wires don't get warm...

It's a pure sine wave inverter. But even a good brand microwave is still inefficient. I've seen that in general, they will pull 1.6 times their cooking power. So 2 times for a Mainstays microwave is probably not unrealistic.

I ordered one of these. It would be cool to see someone put it through its paces. I mean it is reported to be 5 pounds lighter. Is that even possible? I wasn't even that worried about the weight. It is just a really good deal right now. With an easy-to-find additional 4% off code, it makes it...
  • Post in thread: Wire size needed for 12v fridge

Hey guys, can I get some advice. I just bought a 12v fridge and took it camping. I made some 15ft 16 gauge wires to plug it into my DIY LiFePO4 battery but that did not work. Kept getting the error that the voltage was too low. I looked at the ampacity of 16 gauge and 5 amps shouldn't be a...

Thanks, that would be good, but the lowest that line goes is 950 watts and that runs at about 1500 input watts. I just ordered this one...
  • Post in thread: Solar for my pool pump

Hi guys, hoping you can give me some advice. I need to build a cover for my pool pump so it's not getting baked by the sun. I'm curious what it would take to build it a little solar roof? I live near Santan solar so I can easily run down there and grab some of those $50 panels Will loves. But...
