I constructed a DIY radiant heater using 3/4" PEX water tubing, standard metal framing, 2" rigid residential poly insulation and double pane insulated greenhouse glazing. The box itself weighs less than 30 lbs complete. The goal for the project was to create a a heater capable of producing hot...

    So, based on my provided data: 2s4p...results in Max Voltage of 95.4V and 28.8A for 2747.5W. All well below spec of the MPP PCM60X Solar Charge Controller: Max V = 150 V (150/95.4 = 1.57) Max A = 50 A (50/28.8 = 1.73) Max W = 3200 W (3200/2747.5 = 1.16)
  • Post in thread: Hmmmm....Square D QO and QOB circuit breakers

Yes they are not stated DC compliant on the breaker itself. This data is 2008, so...yes, take with grain of salt and some research. A little research: Straight from their current website...

And now waiting for the HOA to tell me it's an eyesore...lol

Although I agree that max specs are not nominal, they are a good design basis. This way the system is designed to handle the max output open circuit.

Oh I agree. I likely would go 2s2p for a fudge factor. Just want to know that I am calculating the totals accurately.

Panel Info: VOC: 47.7 V ISC: 5.75 A 3 in series: 143.1 v and 5.75 A The above paralleled 3 times: 143.1 V 17.25 A Total Wattage for 9 panels: 2468 W This falls in line with specs for MPP PCM60X Solar Charge Controller, which is programmable (intend to use with DIY Powerwall) 48 V Battery...

Apparently the QO and QOB are DC rated for 48 Volts. https://download.schneider-electric.com/files?p_Doc_Ref=0730CT9801#:~:text=The%20standard%20rated%20frequency%20for,for%2060%20Hz%20operation%20only.

Nice idea. Pricey but would definitely be a better option than what I am doing now. After a lil' research, most of them are rubber. Chlorine eats rubber like a fat man eats chicken wings...

Thank you sir. Lots of planning. Looooootttttttssssss of planning. Someday I'll post a timelapse video of it going through it's paces.
  • Post in thread: Need Local consultant on stand-by for new build!

I'm a dabbler, but I'm good with math: 374 kwh/30 days =12.5 kwh/day. So, your system needs to be designed to get your usage plus storage/autonomy if you plan to go totally off grid. You need to have storage that will carry you over a few days in the event that you get no sun to charge that...

  • Post in thread: Canadian solar 250 watt panel

$1.25 a watt for new panel is fair. You can definitely get better deals on used panels, but as stated above, you need to be able to pick them up because shipping is usually a deal breaker unless you are going big.
  • Post in thread: Canadian solar 250 watt panel

I love SanTanSolar but I can't justify the shipping costs, until I get my 10 acres and order 50 panels at sub $40 a piece to spread that shipping cost over the lot.
  • Post in thread: POOL HEATER USING PEX COIL MOUNTED ON ROOF

My profile pic is my box, 100' of 3/4 pex, painted, in a tracker. I didn't want water on my roof. Too heavy. Anyway, if you slow your flow, you gain heat. I can push the box to 180F and get a 13 degree heat gain at about 0.75 gal/min. Mine is tied directly to the pool pump return and...
