  • Post in thread: Needing help with JK BMS - not turning onb

After carefully checking everything over 5 more times ;-) I tried this, and it worked. Had to hold the connection for maybe 2 seconds before it turned on. No magic smoke this time. Thank you! Then I ran into the next issue. The android could see the BT device in the list of devices in the...
  • Post in thread: Handling rough movement of being on a lawn tractor

I'm planning to convert a zero turn mower with a blown engine to electric. It would be subject to very bumpy rides almost constantly when in use. I imagine Golf Cart batteries handle this well enough, even though they are not always sealed. I may decide to go with LA for price, or some...
  • Post in thread: 240 generator into two single phase120 all-in-one chargers?

It seems the LV6548 switches the bond on when there is no AC input, and off when there is. The champion generator has the N-G always bonded, with ground also connecting to the frame.
  • Post in thread: Charge from generator while keeping load on Pure Sine inverters

That makes sense. I didn't mean to suggest it shouldn't die when overloaded. I just meant to point out that it can't handle the "normal" loads, while the inverters can.
  • Post in thread: Needing help with JK BMS - not turning onb

"Not sure why charging the battery to turn on BMS is an issue? " For me it has been an issue because the only power supply I have that goes over 30 volts is my inverter/charger. I know most enthusiasts will have tons of equipment around and a 60 volt PS is probably one of those things. And if...
  • Post in thread: Charge from generator while keeping load on Pure Sine inverters

I have two MPP Solar LV6548 systems which I intend to connect for split phase 240. They can only invert or charge, not both at once.
  • Post in thread: Charge from generator while keeping load on Pure Sine inverters

I'm currently considering just buying another 4000 to 6000 watt 48 volt inverter charger and dedicating it to the purpose of charging from the generator. But since I don't need pure sine output that a high quality inverter isn't necessary. I'm thinking there must be some good straight charger...
  • Post in thread: Needing help with JK BMS - not turning onb

I appreciate you sharing that method here. I'll try it today if I can find a 9 volt around. Getting one could mean a two hour round trip to the closest store that sells them though. So I'll probably use my power supply or a stack of NHMH cells if I don't have a 9 volt. It's great that the...
  • Post in thread: Needing help with JK BMS - not turning onb

Would a bench power supply do the same? Set to 5 volts or 9?
  • Post in thread: 240 generator into two single phase120 all-in-one chargers?

The LV6548 will be charging two 48v nominal batteries with a total of 560ah capacity. It should be safe to charge to at least 280amps, and more sustainable to do so at about 112amps. So that's about 6000 watts at the charging voltage, more than the 5400watts two 20 amp conductors could supply...
  • Post in thread: Mix a few 304ah in series with mostly 280ah

I bought 32 grade b 280 ah lifepo4 cells to make a 2P16S bank. But 2 of the cells had damaged posts and I don't want to use them. 2 others looked like they were used, so I don't really want to use them either. I also have 8 304 cells from another distributer. They are the same physical...
  • Post in thread: Hooking different capacity batteries 272ah and 280ah in series

I searched here before posting, but didn't find your thread until it showed in "similar threads" after I posted my question which is essentially the same thing with 280 and 304ah cells. It sounds like the answer is that there is no problem other than the capacity difference is wasted. The...
  • Post in thread: 240 generator into two single phase120 all-in-one chargers?

"Especially if you plan on turning on or off large loads where the RPM sags momentarily." Is the LV6548 is inverting from battery while charging those batteries from the AC input? Or does it supply the load more directly from the AC input when connected? If it's coming from the battery, do...
  • Post in thread: 240 generator into two single phase120 all-in-one chargers?

What I'm doing seems like a very common use case. Two inverters configured for split phase (which is the standard for North America residential wiring. 48v battery Solar Generator backup with a standard 240v 30a RV style connection. L14-30 plug That said, I expect this configuration...
  • Post in thread: 240 generator into two single phase120 all-in-one chargers?

The generator is only used when there hasn't been enough sun for long enough to let the batteries get low. So it's a manual process to start it up and shut it down. Since the LV6548 leave the NG un-bonded when supplied with AC from the generator, it seems that using a disconnect for the...
  • Post in thread: Charge from generator while keeping load on Pure Sine inverters

I am building a 48 volt battery with 560ah and would like to keep the power to the house clean and stable all the time. But there currently isn't enough solar to keep up with demand if we have a few days of rain. So we use a natural gas powered generator. This generator works fine for most...
  • Post in thread: Charge from generator while keeping load on Pure Sine inverters

It seems pretty easy to find cheap 12v chargers at reasonably high amps. It's easy to find hybrid inverter/chargers at 48 volts with reasonably high amps. But it's hard to find cheap 48 volt chargers at reasonably high amps. Golf cart chargers seem to be good except they seem to all require...
  • Post in thread: 240 generator into two single phase120 all-in-one chargers?

The manual says "Neutral Bonded to Frame. Neutral circuit IS electrically connected to the frame/ground of the generator". I'm out of state for a while and can't look at it physically, but it might be something that is intended to be easily disconnected.
  • Post in thread: 240 generator into two single phase120 all-in-one chargers?

I should mention that we'll probably be doubling the battery capacity to 1120ah in the near future because this off grid setup will be used to charge an EV which will be getting as much as 90 miles a day use. We'll be adding more PV and possibly wind. But in the mean time, the generator will...
  • Post in thread: 240 generator into two single phase120 all-in-one chargers?

I have 2 of the LV6548 All-in-one units from MPP and I'm working out how to set up for use with the generator. The genny can do 7000 watt continuous and has a 30amp 240volt output which is 4 wire and I assume is split phase. The LV6548 units can each take a 120 single phase AC input, and each...
  • Post in thread: 240 generator into two single phase120 all-in-one chargers?

I need to do more learning on grounding and neutral in general. My initial thought was that I'd split the ground and neutral in a box the generator is connected to, running distinct lines to each of the inverters so that each has 3 wires run from the box to the inverter. The hot wires would be...
  • Post in thread: Handling rough movement of being on a lawn tractor

Probably two for propulsion since it's a zero-turn, unless the transmission system make it easier to just keep that and use one. One motor for each blade (two on the deck I'll be using)
  • Post in thread: Needing help with JK BMS - not turning onb

This little detail is also causing me a ton of work/frustration. I don't think posting a link to a list of manuals is a good answer to the specific question. However after reviewing the manuals all I find in them is "There is no switch. It will turn on when it detects a charge current"...
  • Post in thread: Charge from generator while keeping load on Pure Sine inverters

I already have 2 LV6548 systems and a 16s BMS. I want to stick with 48 volt for the lower overall cost per watt. And at this point changing over the rest of the system to 24 volts just for the sake of being able to find a cheaper 24 volt charger seems counter to my goals. I agree that 24 volt...
