  • Post in thread: Water Drops Inside Lifepo4 Battery Case

yeah this is a crazy amount of moisture. I can tell the terminals inside the battery have some corrosion already from prolonged exposure to the moisture. I kind of want to open all my lifepo4 batteries just to see.

Hi everyone, I have sort of a newbie question but I cant quite figure out what to google to have my question answered. I have a SPF 5000es hooked up to a battery bank of 5kwh of lifepo4 batteries. I also have 10x250 watt panels in series. When I am charging the batteries from empty up to full...
  • Post in thread: Burnt MC4 connector

Guys today my 2.5kw solar system all of a sudden cut out on a hot day while I was running a 2.0kw air conditioner. I went to investigate and to my horror I found a MC4 connector completely melted through. Now to be honest I crimped these myself from connectors I got on Amazon for cheap. It’s...
  • Post in thread: Burnt MC4 connector

10 panels in series 250watt each. The voltage is usually around 240 total, and it was drawing about 7 amps at the time. My growatt said the PV input was about 1680 watts. It’s all 10awg pure copper cables I used.(not the aluminum coated kind). The connectors were quite cheap like 11 dollars for...

I was using a growatt spf 5000ES. Ummm I don’t know if it’s an arc fault system? I need to learn about what that means. Do you think there was an arc in the connector?
  • Post in thread: Burnt MC4 connector

Wow. Ok so what can I do to prevent this from happening again? Is there some sort of fuse I can add to augment the system? Was there an arc for an extended period of time while it slowly melted? Or did it happen very quickly?
  • Post in thread: got fined 1k for an off-grid, 500 dollar, 9 panel system i lay on the roof

Hi everyone, I recently got dinged a 1000usd fine for what I believe to be a no-mount, off-grid system I put up a few weeks ago. I bought 10x used 250 watt trina panels off facebook marketplace for 50 dollars each, and got a 5k growatt off-grid inverter and hooked it up to exclusively power my...
  • Post in thread: Burnt MC4 connector

If I recall correctly - the connector that had the arc was actually my first crimp. I bought a wirefy with the right die and everything. I remember struggling to get it right the first time, so maybe that was it. Now I want to go double check all the other crimps i did. yikes. thanks for all the...

  • Post in thread: got fined 1k for an off-grid, 500 dollar, 9 panel system i lay on the roof

thanks for the info. based on your input about roof and firefighters, what if I had lay them on the ground? I actually have tons of space on the ground. another follow up question : what if i had them on top of a pergola? (im not trying to start a fight, im actually 100% genuinely curious, I...
  • Post in thread: newbie q: 48V Lifepo charging upper limit?

no, I dont have BMS communication unfortunately - I have 2x 24V 100ah batteries in series, they each have a 100A BMS supposedly. I'll check to see if the discharge and charge are not 100A. they are "Power Queen 25.6V 100Ah 2.56kWh Deep Cycle LiFePO4 Battery with Longer Runtime, Built-in 100A...
  • Post in thread: newbie q: 48V Lifepo charging upper limit?

I have an external battery monitor "AiLi Battery Monitor" on amazon it measures current in and out and gives me an approximate percentage based on its measurement over time. I know that even at 20% charge, it can charges at the same rate until it reaches 100% and the high voltage cut off. it...
  • Post in thread: Water Drops Inside Lifepo4 Battery Case

i had a battery - Redodo 12V 100Ah refuse to charge after a full discharge, and it was stuck at 12.1V. If i tried to charge it, it would charge at 3A for about a minute and then stop. after a month of trying to figure out what was going on, i cracked open the lid to find a LOT of condensation...
