A friend who converted an ICE car to electric told me that adding (after market) solar to the roof of an electric car (like a prius, leaf or tesla) is not a good idea...
As I am very much new to this, I thought I'd ask here - as from the posts I've read, a lot of people posting here really know...

I agree there are multiple variables.
A few benefits:
Electric cars don't pay parking meters - no more parking tickets.
No waiting at gas stations.
If / when the price of gas goes up, savings happen faster.
