Only a few days in and all is going well with one rather noticeable exception. This thing is not nearly as quiet as I was expecting given what I've read online and seen on Youtube. I can only imagine what the 6500EX is like if the 6000XP is the quiet one! I know most people are putting these in...
  • Post in thread: EG4 6000XP without battery

For the sake of completeness, I am updating this thread to let others know, I now have my battery and everything looks great. Some advice to EG4: instead of saying you don't recommend running the 6000XP without a battery, just say it requires a battery and you can't do anything useful without...
  • Post in thread: 6000XP Cooling Fan Observations

From what I have observed, fan 3 speed ramps up in tight correlation with PV input. Fans 1 and 2 ramp up in tight correlation with load.
  • Post in thread: 6000XP Cooling Fan Observations

This is precisely where I think I am headed. Some sort of 3D printed duct that goes into the wall and down under the house (about 5ft) with an extractor fan on the end. I'll either tap the PWM from the 6000xp fans or use the inverter temp via MQTT and have an ESP32 with a motor driver that...
  • Post in thread: Is this the best panel layout for my roof?

I think i have the setbacks right. The top of the image is cropped a bit. I am trying to avoid micro inverters by optimizing placement instead. I accept if I want to add more panels, they will be shaded at different points and will need micro inverters. I can probably get another 6 on the tile...
  • Post in thread: EG4 6000XP without battery

OK. Managed to confirm the functioning of the panels which is what I really wanted to do as I only have limited time with the scissor lift! I turned off the grid input into the inverter and it started using the panels. Loaded it up slowly with common use items and noticed my lines are pretty...
  • Post in thread: Flying under the Radar!

I am considering a similar set up also in the the LADWP area. I've been considering an EG4 6000XP, an EG4 PowerPro and 10-12 450-500w panels on my flat roof racked for maximum efficiency as a starter system. I'd still use some power from the grid to keep DWP satisfied but want to significantly...
  • Post in thread: EG4 Solution: Encrypting your Wi-Fi dongle connection

Sent mine as well. EDIT: You've already done it! Thanks.
  • Post in thread: EG4 6000XP without battery

I am seeing it as a potential race condition. It would appear the EG4 14.3kWh indoor battery is designed with high quality safety features. Even has built in fire suppression. While it looks like it was built for compliance, I admittedly have no idea if it will be. If it doesn't, I can repurpose...
  • Post in thread: EG4 6000XP without battery

6000XP won't back feed to the grid if that is what you mean. Will only use grid if battery is low SOC and solar not sufficient. Assuming i can get it configured as such! But appreciate the head's up. I am following local jurisdiction with the intention of compliance. Battery may be the exception.
  • Post in thread: 6000xp dongle connect

I've just noticed this. My dongle is broadcasting an entirely unsecured network using its unique identifier no less. This is a rather huge security issue. There must be a way to turn this off.
  • Post in thread: EG4 6000XP without battery

I am not looking for it to blend. I am looking for it to use the solar. I don't have 100w of solar. I have 12 490w panels in two strings. I should have 5.8kW theoretically. But that's not happening. So what am I missing here?
  • Post in thread: EG4 6000XP without battery

Did some further testing. Wanted to get the load above one of the strings potential output to see if it would kick in. The good news is the 6000XP can run my 4 ton A/C with only grid power pass through using an easy start device. The bad news is the PV is still not contributing even with the...
  • Post in thread: EG4 6000XP without battery

Yes. You can see in first post in this thread the load was 435w. Separately, I found a different page of settings. One of them is called "no batteries" which I have now enabled. Will see tomorrow if that allows it to use solar first and switch to grid if there is insufficient solar. The EG4...
  • Post in thread: EG4 6000XP without battery

Can someone answer this question: If the solar circuit is being used, does the inverter need to take all of the current and put it somewhere? In other words, if my panels are outputting 5kW of power, does there need to be 5kW of consumption. If I have 1kW of load, can the inverter take only 1kW...
  • Post in thread: 6000XP Cooling Fan Observations

Bumping this in hopes that someone from EG4 can at least let us know if there will be a similar type of fan control on the PV fan. Also, I discovered that there is at least one temperature sensor inside the unit that reports data via Solar Assistant. My max temp at full load (both PV and...
  • Post in thread: 6000XP Cooling Fan Observations

Just to confirm, it is the PV fan (bottom) that has no user control and will go full hair dryer mode above 2~3kW of PV. The other two fans which ramp based on load DO have user controls. I set them to 50% (you have to select "new slope" for it to work) and they are much quieter and manage temps...
  • Post in thread: 6000XP Cooling Fan Observations

Keen to see what you come up with. If the PV fan is controlled similarly to the other two, there may be settings for "Fan 3 Max %" and "Fan Speed Slope 3" that just aren't exposed in the UI. Still not temperature-based PWM but I'll take it if it's there. My 3rd fan exhaust is almost always...
  • Post in thread: EG4 6000XP without battery

Bumping this. I am waiting for my EG4 280Ah battery to travel the seas so have my panels and inverter up and running along with grid input. I am seeing very little coming from the panels and the majority coming from the grid. And the diagram is missing the flow from the inverter to the load. I...
  • Post in thread: Is this the best panel layout for my roof?

The picture is hopefully somewhat self-explanatory. 12 Silfab 500watt panels. Trying to achieve minimal shading. Two strings going into an EG4 6000XP. I did some math and figured out shadow lengths at the winter and summer solstices to identify the best racking options. I also used the iron...
