  • Post in thread: How to load historical local data from Victron MPPT solar charge controller into VRM

I've accidentally found an answer to my question, it seems. I was looking for an unrelated thing, a way to enable or disable the streetlight feature of the solar charge controller through VRM and I found that VRM two-way communication needs to be enabled for this. Once it is, the devices...
  • Post in thread: Advice on land mounted array 60 m (200 ft) away from the solar charge controller

The solar panel array will be land mounted and the line from it to the SCC input will be in a conduit and buried. The line from the SCC output to the battery is just wall mounted, the SCC and the batteries are in the same spot in the shed.
  • Post in thread: Is it okay to charge a battery with (much) lower current than recommended?

You're right, I misinterpreted some of the earlier replies. Yeah, I think this is ultimately why I'll wait for the Victron wall charger to come before I do anything with the battery. The charger that I have on hand seems very odd to me. I still don't get why there is a range of voltage at the...
  • Post in thread: Is it bad for na LFP battery to be on a solar charge controller for a long time with no load?

Thanks for taking a look at this! I didn't realize that while there is no load the battery voltage is actually a useful indicator of the SOC like with lead batteries. I got so used to not relying on it for LFP because it is (to my knowledge) too inaccurate while under load that it didn't cross...
  • Post in thread: Is it okay to charge a battery with (much) lower current than recommended?

Okay, I'm got gonna try and hack it and I'll get a proper LFP charger instead. I am looking at Victron IP22 and where I live I can get 12 V / 30 A version. 30 A is much closer to the recommended charge current of 40 A so I think I should be definitely in the ballpark with that.
  • Post in thread: Is it okay to charge a battery with (much) lower current than recommended?

Thanks! I did repost the question there. I also decided to get a proper charger as I expect I will be expanding the battery bank and even if I did charge this one using the 1 A charger, I will want to do the first two cycles of any future batteries faster, so a proper charger will come in handy.
  • Post in thread: Is it okay to charge a battery with (much) lower current than recommended?

I found this weird, but the label on the charger says its output is 13.6-14.7 V / 1 A. I am confused why it would be a range. It is not an LFP charger so it does not state any specific voltages at the different charging stages like bulk and absorbtion.
  • Post in thread: Is it okay to charge a battery with (much) lower current than recommended?

I see. Still, I would have expected to see those values represented not as a range but as lines showing the voltages for the different states. I am attaching a picture of the label.
  • Post in thread: Advice on land mounted array 60 m (200 ft) away from the solar charge controller

Hi, I have a barn where I have run a small solar system I use to power its lights as well as the occasional power tool. There is a semi-insulated brick room in the barn so I can keep the electronics (solar charge controller, invertor, batteries with internal heaters) there. The barn has a south...
  • Post in thread: Advice on land mounted array 60 m (200 ft) away from the solar charge controller

Yeah I am definitely going to be looking at replacing the panels. The ones I have currently aren't able to top up the batteries as fast as I'd like. With the new spot and better panels I am positive I should see much better charge times as I will be able to both catch and convert more light.
  • Post in thread: How to load historical local data from Victron MPPT solar charge controller into VRM

Hi! I have a hobbyist solar system with just a few panels powering just DC loads for now (lights in my shop). I want to build a bigger system in the future but I want to learn first to make sure I get it right. My system started off with a 12 V SOK LFP battery, a Victron MPPT BT solar charge...
  • Post in thread: Hello everyone! A newbie from the Czech Republic

Hi, my name's Tom and I am a novice solar hobbyist. I live in the Czech Republic, in central Europe. I'm making this post to say hi to everyone as well as to see if we have other Czech people here. I expect to create a bunch of posts for the Beginners Corner over the course of the coming months...
  • Post in thread: Is it okay to charge a battery with (much) lower current than recommended?

Yeah I left out some of the context from my original thread. My situation is that I'm not at my house where the solar system is now, but I did receive this battery and rather than just stare at it for a few weeks, I figured I might as well do the first two cycles as recommended by the...
  • Post in thread: Advice on land mounted array 60 m (200 ft) away from the solar charge controller

So for my current 4 175 Wp panels with 18.3 V and 9.56 A (under load) connected in series, so 73.2 V and 9.56 A or 700 Wp if I ran a 70 m (230 ft) length of 10 AWG (6 mm2) copper cable I am looking at a 7.13 % voltage drop, so 67.98 V on the other end going to the SCC. That's 650 Wp. And if I...
  • Post in thread: Advice on land mounted array 60 m (200 ft) away from the solar charge controller

Good point about the MC4s! I think I will go with 10 AWG and accept the voltage loss. Maybe I will upgrade to higher Wp panels so that the output voltage of the array is higher and it is still high enough even after the loss. I will keep the temp adjustment in mind, thank you. I am using a 12 V...
  • Post in thread: Control a circuit powered by the load output of the Victron SCC with the Cerbo GX relay

Hi, I have a Victron SmartSolar 100/15 MPPT SCC connected to a Cerbo GX for remote control via VRM and VictronConnect. I am currently not using the relays on the Cerbo but I know they can be both connected to a manual mode (and one can be programmed which is not something I need right now)...
  • Post in thread: How to load historical local data from Victron MPPT solar charge controller into VRM

Yes, I am aware the internal memory on the device is limited. I don't care much for keeping the data on the device for longer, but question is more towards how and whether I can take the locally saved data off the Cerbo GX and backfill them into the VRM history. From what I can see, VRM kicks in...
  • Post in thread: What is the best way to suggest product suggestions to Victron?

Hi, I am using Victron products (except for batteries) in my miniature solar system and while using the physical products themselves as well as VRM, I have come up with some suggestion improvements. I tried to email these to Victron, but they seem to have a pretty impenetrable sales wall; the...

  • Post in thread: Code of Conduct points to a section that has since been removed

This is not really a complaint even thought based on the forum list I think this is a best place to post this. I am a new member so I am going through all of the various resouces season members probably don't check anymore and one of them was the Code of Conduct post...
  • Post in thread: Is it okay to charge a battery with (much) lower current than recommended?

I didn't consider that, it is true that I can stop while still well within the safe levels and switch chargers once able to. I think I'll do that. Thanks!
  • Post in thread: Is it bad for na LFP battery to be on a solar charge controller for a long time with no load?

Hi, I have a miniature solar setup with a few panels, an SCC and a 206 Ah LFP battery. I used to have the setup power 24/7 lights in my shop but I disconnected the load some time back due to making changes to the shop lighting and I never got back to reconnecting it yet. I use a Victron SCC and...
  • Post in thread: Is it bad for na LFP battery to be on a solar charge controller for a long time with no load?

It is a 12 V battery and I have two 175 Wp 10 A solar panels hooked up to the SCC in series going to the SCC. The SCC is configured correctly for a 12 V LFP system so AFAIK it should be charging the battery with the correct algorithm. I am glad to hear the temperature is not a problem, I got the...
  • Post in thread: Is it bad for na LFP battery to be on a solar charge controller for a long time with no load?

status.png shows the charger is enabled and charging but in bulk state. settings.png shows the float should start at 13.5 V and absorption at 14.2 V. We see that the battery is not at that voltage, but it has no load and history-recent.png shows daily there is energy going into the battery but...
  • Post in thread: Is it okay to charge a battery with (much) lower current than recommended?

Hi. I have this SOK 206 Ah battery: https://www.europe.sokbattery.com/product-page/marine-grade-12v-206ah-lifepo4-battery-sealed-plastic-box-bluetooth-built-in-he The specs say to charge using: 14.4-14.6 V and 40 A I am not at the spot where my solar system is for a few weeks now but since I...
  • Post in thread: Is it okay to charge a battery with (much) lower current than recommended?

Hey folks, I was recommended to repost my question from https://diysolarforum.com/threads/is-it-okay-to-charge-a-battery-with-much-lower-current-than-recommended.50780 here: Long story short, I am a complete novice and I happen to have a 13.6-14.7 V / 1 A charger meant for gel batteries at hand...
