https://www.pcemc.org/portable-generator-safety-our-lives-are-stake “Portable generators, widely used when power lines are down, can prove fatal to line workers and your neighbors when used improperly. Of course, no one would ever purposely cause the death of a line worker. Nevertheless, a...

I did this to our Gen 2 Volt in 2019. Ran a pair of short 2AWG cables from the 12V accessory battery in the trunk to an Anderson plug that connects to a 1500W pure sine wave inverter. In theory, the DC-DC converter uses the Volt's 18.4KW battery to keep the 12V accessory battery charged and...
  • Post in thread: LiFePO4 heating pad for cold temperatures

Until they are wired in series... 4 of them fit the side of my battery 280AH bank just about perfectly. I can run 4P, 2P2S, or 4S to change the power density. And attached to a 40 pound heat sink I think the pad temp will be just fine in at least one of those configs.

Or one of the numerous lead acid batteries I've got laying around... I'll report back the temps.

(the 40 pound heat sink would be the battery)
  • Post in thread: Whats going on with Renogy?

Even when getting through to a person, it’s not much better. Spent 44 min waiting for the CSR to connect with the warehouse to find out why my orders were getting tracking numbers but not shipping even weeks later. She eventually said the warehouse wasn’t answering, and she would call/email me...

Am using these in my build: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0794V5J5H/ $10, 12 watts each, 100mmx120mm. 4 per side of these glued to an aluminum plate will just about perfectly fit my 4 x 280AH cells. With combinations of parallel and serial connections, I will have the flexibility...
  • Post in thread: Safety Concerns for 48V Battery in RV

1st one I pulled up. Not sure what smallish vs your budget looks like, but here's a 96V input rated solar charge controller for less than sixty bucks that will deliver any number of lead acid 12V charge profiles, including sealed, flooded, and AGM. Looks like it will charge your phone and keep...
  • Post in thread: Safety Concerns for 48V Battery in RV

Why wouldn't a small 12 v charger and a smallish 12V lead acid battery as your 12V "surge" bank be the most cost effective and elegant solution for intermittent loads like leveling jacks, vs a massive 48-12V DC-DC?
  • Post in thread: Safety Concerns for 48V Battery in RV

The one I linked to transitions to float charging with a “the charging current almost be zero when controller is floating charge” note. I wonder what the draw is in float mode. Might be quite low. As a “solar” charger it “should” be designed to be efficient. It can’t pull significant amounts...

My current plan is to silicone them to an aluminum sheet and attach to each side of the pack inside the compression frame. Still waiting on my cells from China!
  • Post in thread: LiFePO4 heating pad for cold temperatures

Not to mention, I personally would be hesitant to tuck a cloth pad in with my battery build. There are other, better solutions.
  • Post in thread: LiFePO4 heating pad for cold temperatures

I'm trying to keep the build simple and flexible. They're 12 watts. And will be attached to an aluminum plate on a battery to further distribute the heat. And as I stated, can be wired in series with no additional controls to reduce the wattage even further if I think it's getting too warm...
  • Post in thread: Mounting the BMS like this?

Is that black BMS frame plastic or metal? Considering potential short circuits.
  • Post in thread: LiFePO4 heating pad for cold temperatures

I saw that too. BTW, they were $8.99, one day Prime until I posted on this forum! I guess the battery crowd buys more than the beekeeper crowd and their algorithm adjusted. There are lots of sources/resellers that look similar. eBay has them too. I was looking for a quicker shipment and...

I was wondering about the beehive thing. Didn't seem right to me.
