Okay, now I get it. Just learned what a CT was and that I can connect one remotely to the 18Kpv. That's how it can tell when to send power to cover any usage I have at the time.
  • Post in thread: 42 panels, 3 strings, but one is east + west. Optimizers?

I have an east/west roof. 42 panels going into a Sol Ark 15k with 3 MPPT inputs. Plan is for all three strings to be 7s2p, but then one of the strings will have both east and west facing panels (10 east, 4 west). If I'm using optimizers (RSD at the panel is a requirement, so I need to use them)...
  • Post in thread: EG4 new AIO rated 12K output and 18kPV aka "EG4-18Kpv-12LV"

So if the max output of the 18kpv is 12,000 watts, is an 18,000 watt pv array even worth it? I know I won't max out the solar output all the time, but what if I do? It will be paired with a 30kwh battery. An 18,000 watt system is the appropriate size for the amount of power we use but now I'm...

    Oooh, I like this idea.
  • Post in thread: EG4 new AIO rated 12K output and 18kPV aka "EG4-18Kpv-12LV"

Planning my system with the 18Kpv and maybe the new EG4 14.3kwh batteries or some EG4 server rack batteries. I have the option of putting everything in a shed like this: https://www.construct101.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/lean-to-shed-plans-4x8-trim.png where my meter and breaker box are...
  • Post in thread: EG4 batteries in California

Planning out my system and would like to use EG4 batteries here in California. No EG4 products are listed in the approved battery list. I'm guessing, but I want to make sure, that means I can't use any of their batteries in my system plan and get it approved here?
  • Post in thread: A few n00b questions regarding how batteries actually work with a grid-tied system.

So I'm planning my solar system and I believe I've sized it correctly. The plan is for a 18kw panel array, and a 30kwh battery and an all-in-one charger/inverter with grid features. Right now I'm planning on the EG4 18kpv with either the EG4 server rack batteries or a pair of the EG4 Powerpro...
  • Post in thread: Rooftop conduit mount?

I'm already drilling into my roof about 80 times for the solar mounts and I really don't want to make any more holes for conduit mounts. So, two questions. Are conduit mounts even needed? If so, do conduit mounts have to be screwed into the roof or can I just use risers to keep the conduit off...
  • Post in thread: A few n00b questions regarding how batteries actually work with a grid-tied system.

In California where net metering got pretty bad recently, so I want to use as little external power as possible. So, if I set it to zero export, and it's wired into the main panel but not between the grid and the panel, will it be able to tell if there's an increased load coming from something...
  • Post in thread: Wiring Panels to All-in-One Inverter with MPPT limits

Choosing between the Sol-Ark 15k and EG4 18Kpv. When wiring the panels to the inverter (to the MPPT inputs), each input has voltage and amperage limits. The Sol-Ark also has a limit of 6.5kw per MPPT. I'm trying to see if they will work with my 42 panel, 17.64kw pv array. After doing some...
  • Post in thread: Easiest roof mount rail system to work with? 42 panels

I'm installing a relatively large system with 42 420v REC panels. I'm having a new roof put in and they're going to install all the mounts for me. I'll be installing the rails/wires/panels etc. Since I'm new to this, I'm looking for ease of use, but I'm also being very conscious of the...
