Well said. This is a DIY forum not an EE (Electrical Engineering) forum. Their advice is welcome but the flaming of SS is not. In America you have the freedom of choice. Only certain political persuasions adore the nanny state. That said I bought my 5000ES from Amazon.com not knowing at the...
  • Post in thread: SOLAR-ASSIST monitoring along side Shine-WIFI Module for Growatt 3000TL LVM-ES

I just put the Growatt wifi dongle on a USB extension cord. Solar Assistant works excellently on my Growatt SPF5000ES along with the Growatt dongle. Home Assistant is updated often. The Growatt dongle has the disadvantage of not being real-time. Have to hit reload often. Also, it reports back...
  • Post in thread: Off Grid Monitoring Solution

SolarAssistant is the best. Growatt is dependent on slow Growatt.com server update timings. Solarassistant has much better charts and reports. It updates every 10 seconds or less without depending on an exterior internet server connection.

Hello Robby. I expected no less from you or your group. I am not frazzled. Your interpretations may be judged differently if brought to a court. Defamation cannot be condoned in the name of righteousness or other exaggerated scare tactics hiding behind the banner of safety. Your safety advice...
  • Post in thread: Remote settings for SPF 5000 es

I probably do not have something configured properly then. At least I know now that it is possible to config Growatt reliably with Solarassistant by what you say. I am going on the hunt. Thanks for the input. You are the best.
  • Post in thread: Growatt 5000 ES SPF

Try turning the power switch on the Growatt to the off position. Leave battery and utility on. This will put the Growatt into standby mode where settings may #2 and #11 can be changed To set the charging limits you should be in this standby mode. I set charging from utility #11 as low as 2A and...

OPPS Just checked again, and I have the grid neutral connected to the autotransformer. I think that's why my house has not burned down ! Tim is always right.
  • Post in thread: Something Strange with Growatt SPF 5000 ES

Growatt SPF 5000 ES with screw removed and EG4 48v lithium battery no grid feed back. Consumption only. AC input model UPS. It may sound stupid but I had a similar problem and the Growatt config is a little vague on this. I just set the charge from grid max to 1 amp. The Growatt is going to...
  • Post in thread: Neutral to Ground PV is Hot

As MichaelK Noted There are very small value filter caps on HV DC node so there is a lot of 2x AC out freq ripple voltage on them which heats up electrolytic caps reducing their lifespan. It also gives them little to no surge capability. PV input caps are very low in capacitance so there will...
  • Post in thread: PV Voltage drop during inverter load - SPF5000 ES

Suspect a bad panel. I use this device to check each panel individually. EY800W LCD Photovoltaic Panel Multimeter Auto/ Manual MPPT Solar Panel MPPT Tester Voltage Testing Tool 800W 35A Chinese device that works well. Saves a lot of time guessing. Safer than sticking multimeter probes in the PV...
  • Post in thread: Are 4 pannels (405wp) enough for growatt SPF 5000 ES

I ran Growatt SPF 5000 ES (screw removed and well insulated) with 4 cheapo 325-watt panels and it worked just fine with about 75 feet of #10 gauge stranded copper wire and insulated of course. Top it off I live in Canada. Being power greedy I upgraded to 4 470 watt 78 cell - Bifacial panels. If...
  • Post in thread: Remote settings for SPF 5000 es

Solarassistant wants values as a voltage. Growatt and Shine want in percentage for those settings. To add to the confusion Solarassistant will sometimes accept a percentage as input on the voltage line input range. I do prefer Solarassistant over Shine. Updates are fast and not dependent on the...
  • Post in thread: Growatt Shinephone - Changing Inverter Settings/Parameters SPF 5000 ES

Put Growatt into standby mode by turning off its rocker switch. Leave the battery on. Go to setting #11 and change to 0 Amps. Switch the Growatt back on. Be aware that the Growatt will be consuming 50-75 watts when in service. I set # 11 to 2 amps so to compensate for this and not drain the...
