I think it would work even without buck/boost. I have 16pcs of the 44V modules, so I could connect them in series to get like 200V which is fine voltage for PV input of SMA.. But there's some issues. First of all, it would always run at full power. For "pump and dump" this is fine, but perhaps...

Bumping this old thread as I'm in a same boat. My current energy storage is built from Think City EV lithium batteries. They were originally 12S but the voltage was slightly too low for my Deye inverter so I changed the configuration to 14S. I currently charge to 57.4V which is about 4.1V per...

I have a spare 23kWh li-ion battery (from Think City car), which I'm planning to use as energy storage for my home. The battery consists of multiple 12S modules, each 44V nominal and about 50.7V max. I already have a grid tied 10kWp solar plant with SMA inverter. But I plan to build completely...

Thanks for your thoughts! I've been trying to Google what is the real "safe voltage range" of LiFePO4? I know most of the capacity is between 3.0-3.4V and there's usually no point going further, but how much worse it is to use 2.9-3.5V or 2.85-3.55V? If I loose 10% or 20% battery life it...

Huh, just found this, from Wikipedia. I guess I don't want to go to the red zone.
  • Post in thread: Does a Grid tie, battery only inverter charger exist for time of use arbitrage

Hmm but there are a lot "hybrid grid tie inverters" which should do the trick. I was just asking about this in another thread. I was looking at this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/334496375072 It has solar, but also battery charger / discharge.. And it can discharge battery to the grid. SolaX also...
  • Post in thread: Does a Grid tie, battery only inverter charger exist for time of use arbitrage

SolaX would be perfect but in latest generation models they have dropped support for user configurable battery voltages. So basically it only works with their own battery packs, that connect with CAN bus to the inverter. It's just that I have a spare DIY 23kWh lithium pack...

I found a damn good page explaining pitfalls of LiFePO4 charging: https://nordkyndesign.com/charging-marine-lithium-battery-banks/ The main point being.. Any voltage above 3.4V can overcharge the battery if held for too long. When above 3.4V and charge amps drop below certain limit, charging...
  • Post in thread: Does a Grid tie, battery only inverter charger exist for time of use arbitrage

But these above mentioned hybrid inverters have separate battery connectors, battery is not connected to PV inputs. SolaX retrofit models don't even have PV inputs. You are right that by default these hybrid inverters have the current sensor in your grid connection, and only output "just...

SolaX X1-AC seems to be still available and does support custom batteries without BMS connection (70-400V). Also it supports standard RS485 modbus connection for the current meter, and I found the protocol description online: https://fastron.com.au/products/sdm630mct-modbus-cl1-v2-growatt-solax...

Read the link above. :) I'm pretty sure he's correct. LiFePO4 will reach 100% SOC even at 3.4V, if held there long enough. If charging voltage is not lowered after that, it starts to overcharge. But it might be hours (or days?) even at 3.55V before it really reaches 100%, so it probably works...
