    Thoughts on B-grade panels?

So I'm shopping for approx 5KW of PV for an off-grid home we're building, looking for panels in the 460-530w range. I found a local seller who has a variety of "B-grade" Heliene panels which he says are unused, straight from the factory but have cosmetic blemishes and no factory warranty...

Pressure switch for Grudfos SQF & CU200?

Thanks, pvgirl! I had seen other discussions about the CU200 not being necessary and I had wondered if it was possible to just wire the SQF directly with a conventional pressure switch. This begs the question - just how important are the "monitoring functions" of the CU200? I already bought...

Pressure switch for Grudfos SQF & CU200?

I'm going to be installing a Grundfos 11SQF-2 with a CU200 controller. Input power will be 120V from the inverter of an off-grid system. I want to pump to a conventional domestic pressure tank, with the pump switched on/off by a pressure switch The CU200 has input terminals to connect a tank...

how long until DIY solar is dead? -- states are beginning to require microinverters

That's because these governments pushing the climate change agenda privately don't really believe their own narrative - the whole thing is really just about CONTROL of the population. I don't know why so many people can't recognize this. Fundamental human nature hasn't changed; there has...

    Off-grid: illegal in Florida?

Many didn't, but the rest did it without a nanny government's permission. ?

    Off-grid: illegal in Florida?

Yep I appreciate that. I particularly appreciate the very demanding Florida building codes, having come through hurricane Ian. I'm not criticizing building and electrical codes in general because as you said, they're generally sensible best practices.

    Off-grid: illegal in Florida?

I get your point, but the "can't fight city hall" complacency is what lead us to where we are now, with it getting increasingly difficult to do *anything*. Pretty soon we won't be able to do ANYTHING at all without "permission" of this increasingly powerful government nanny, and the inevitably...

    Off-grid: illegal in Florida?

Good question. I haven't seen anything in either state or county regs specifically regarding power on AG land. Ours is AG zoned also and we definitely intend to have a residence on it. From what I've seen so far, we have to follow FBC and NEC regardless.

    Off-grid: illegal in Florida?

Grey area indeed. We're all set on water & sewer; have private well & septic. Regarding power, there is utility power available as there's a line running down one of the roads we have frontage on, but power has not actually been brought off it onto our parcel. Power company doesn't even...

Convert atmospheric CO2 to aviation fuel ?

Short of nuclear fuel, nothing beats liquid hydrocarbons for energy density. IMO, for any transportation purpose it makes MUCH more sense to use abundant daytime PV power to produce synthetic liquid hydrocarbon fuels from atmospheric CO2, rather than using batteries.

Ground mount: Sch 40 pipe vs. mechanical pipe?

Yep the bore holes for the footings are going to be a pain in the arse. I've resigned myself to that. I have a tractor with a PTO post hole auger for the 3 point, and I'm in south Florida where the ground is just sand, so shouldn't be too terrible. I just need to get a 16" bit for the auger...

Ground mount: Sch 40 pipe vs. mechanical pipe?

Did you need to do any splicing to make long lengths for the cross beams? If so, what did you use to do the splice?

Ground mount: Sch 40 pipe vs. mechanical pipe?

Best I can tell, tubing is made to closer tolerances than pipe and is measured differently, primarily by outside diameter. It's a bit confusing. I'm just trying to figure out what to use since Iron Ridge leaves it up to the end user to get their own material for the piers and cross pipes.

Ground mount: Sch 40 pipe vs. mechanical pipe?

I'm working up a plan for a 6KW ground array using Iron Ridge hardware, and I see where you can use either schedule 40 pipe or mechanical tube - wondering if anyone here has an opinion on one vs. the other. Availability, cost, workability, etc. At this point I'm leaning towards the tube...

Anyone have any experience in Solar DIY in New York State? I see bad things on the horizon....

The difference between "conspiracy theory" and historical fact is about 6-12 months. Did you miss this week's recent news sbout Neuralink? If you don't see the globalist moves towards a high tech neo-feudalism, you're either not paying attention, or you're being willfully blind.
