Please see the attached Schematic-Photo.

Should all be self explanatory.

Questions:
1. What size should my MPPT be?
2. Can an MPPT be "Oversize" electrically, or is that just an excessive cost thing?
3. How to properly connect the 24V marine alternator/engine to the system?
- Should I wire it into the MPPT at all?
- If YES, then what current should I limit my alternator to?
- If NO, then how do I monitor the battery charge? The Alternator does have a Remote Charge Sensor on it.
4. Total Power/Energy Consumption should be only about 8Ah per day ==> 192 Watt-hrs per day.
5. Recommended size of Solar Array? Seems like 100W Panel at 5hrs/day of sunshine would be more than enough. Should I go with 200W for quicker charge?
6. Also, I show the pump connected to the "Load" terminals on the MPPT. Is that the best way to do it, or is it better to connect the load direct to the batteries?
7. I can easily add another 16AHs worth of batteries, making this a 32AH system. Should I do that to help with cloudy/bad weather.

This, and another system that I am working on, are remote systems. That is the reason for the Marine Alternator/Engine. I will have it on a small trailer and will be able to wheel it out to these remote applications to charge the batteries, in case of uncooperative weather!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Many Thanks and God Bless!

Did I do something wrong? Photo too big? Schematic not clear enough?

Sure would appreciate some of you more experienced folks looking over this and giving me some direction/suggestions.

Thanks and God Bless!

What are specs on PV panel(s), Voc, Isc,?
small 20-30 amp MPPT; which will operate with PV panel specs.
wire alternator to battery
100 watt panel with 5 hours sun seems OK
connect pump to load

Thanks. I don't have any specs on the PVC panel(s), yet. Any suggestions? I assumed that I will need something in the 28-32 volt range for proper charging.

Thanks again and God bless!

do you have any specs on pump? what is it we're doing? well pump? bilge pump?
do you know start up current needs for this pump? is it a diaphragm pump? centrifugal pump?

Pump is 24vdc - 16A max at 65 meter max head. Submersible deep well. 3.2 gpm, but no specs given as to what type of pump... Diaphragm, piston, centrifugal, turbine etc.

Also just re-read the specs and it supposedly has a built-in mppt; therefore, I think I should wire it directly to the battery, too.

Thanks again and God bless!

It looks like my pump.
One correction. Specs work out to approximately 8.8 gpm and 92 psi and 2840 rpm.

I think this pump is a permanent magnet DC brush-less motor; starting current should not be a problem.
These sold in the Philippines seem to suggest 500 watts of solar power:

Thanks! Actual pwr consumption is stated as 370W; so, that 500W solar suggestion seems to be for direct connection to solar array. With the intermittent use that I described, and the battery bank (16Ah-32Ah), I think I should be able to function well on 200W solar. Do you agree or am I missing something?

Best regards and God bless!
