Tinning vs. Heat Shrink

Hi again,

I defer to the expertise of many on here who have guided me so far...

Because I live in Mexico, I don't have as many things available to me as in the U.S. I have found copper bus bars, but they not tinned. Because I live waterfront on the Caribbean Sea, the salt air rusts and corrodes things exponentially faster than in an off-sea location.

My questions is:
Would using a marine grade heat shrink on my bus bars be enough to protect the copper from corrosion, or should I find a way to tin them?

Here is the heat shrink I was planning to use:

I would say no on just using heat shrink.

Electroplating is easy. I did mine with nickel.

Thanks for the answers. I'm fine to do it if I can find the nickel or tin solutions here. I just haven't been able to find it yet.

I tried tinning busbars with solder and a torch. It did not turn out well at all.

Search for Liquid Tin.

There’s several threads on this topic.

I’ve used it and the copper bus bars come out great. No complicated processing either. Just clean the copper, dip it into the solution, wait a bit, remove from the solution and rinse. That simple. You can then shrink wrap the bars to provide some additional protection if you want.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to locate it here in México. I am making a homemade version to try. I'll post the results here when it happens.
