    EG4 6000XP/18Kpv Custom RS485 Dongle Connector

Remember that the interface is shared -- the RS485 is shared between them. So you could end up running into yourself if you have both the eternet/wifi dongle and the RS485 interface plugged in, especially since SA is frequently querying (both query at the same time). That's really not the best...

    EG4 6000XP/18Kpv Custom RS485 Dongle Connector

Yeah, he just bridged the hdmi to an usb endpoint that passes the RS485 through correctly. I made the modbus request successfully using the hardware.

    EG4 6000XP/18Kpv Custom RS485 Dongle Connector

I can open mine and see if I can get a modbus out of it.

    EG4 6000XP/18Kpv Custom RS485 Dongle Connector

It was very insecure, but the above comment suggests that it can be secured. However, SA has an unpublished beta version that works with RS485. That was the originating post of this thread--my roommate has designed the hardware that builds this in for a HDMI to USB connection to SA. The question...

    EG4 6000XP/18Kpv Custom RS485 Dongle Connector

What steps did you take to do this? I've been going away from wifi as much as possible, but it would be an interesting thing to keep in my back pocket. Once SA supports RS485, then I'm going with that for max security.

    EG4 6000XP/18Kpv Custom RS485 Dongle Connector

Yes. The ethernet adapter DOES NOT work with SA. Port 8899 is not open and won't be open. SA is moving to RS485 for connectivity.

    EG4 6000XP/18Kpv RS485 Connector

Problem: Both the EG4 6000XP and 18Kpv wireless dongles are highly insecure, broadcasting an unsecured network and Bluetooth open connections. For connection to Home or Software Assistant, this dongle relies on a special "debug" mechanism on port 8899 to retrieve data, which are not open for the...

    New 6000XP firmware released

After the upgrade, my screen has stopped rotating through the various metrics -- I have to manually navigate to see the various values (ie, state of charge, amps in, voltage, charge coming in...). Is this a new setting?

Solar assistant: do you use it?

I have a small C# program that does a RS485 modbus request to the 6000XP inverter to get data.. dotnetcore runs cross platform and will run on the Pi.

Solar assistant: do you use it?

It doesn't support the 6000xp inverter without using the very insecure wifi adapter, so I will use it as soon as they have an RS485 solution for monitoring :). Always broadcasting an unsecured wifi endpoint that anyone can connect and modify settings is a no-go for me!

    Bigbattery Ethos

They are actually heavier than the LL-S series. And price is higher, as noted. I prefer the 100Ah versions as you can swap them out (lower cost and effort) if one were to go bad.

    EG4 6000XP and SolarAssistant

So my wifi is entirely disconnected... the security on it is atrocious. It broadcasts an unsecure wifi network that anyone can join. So I connect to the black and white wires for the RS485. I'm not sure how you would 'share' it.

Best iOS app to use for 6000XP and EG4 LLS batteries

You can use the EG4 app with the dongle, but the wireless dongle is very insecure. It broadcasts an open network that anyone can join. The wired dongle doesn't allow local connect. So basically a security-oriented approach is kind of up a creek right now.

Error mixing EG4 LifePower4 and LL-S batteries (Resolved)

It may be a DIP switch issue. I couldn't get my batteries to report when I had them in perfect DIP sequence (1,2,3,4)... I had to skip 4.. so my DIPs are at 1,2,3,5! I have no idea why. But if I set the last DIP to 4, it stops reporting. I have two LL-S and two LP4. Here are my settings...

    6000xp went off line

That port is explicitly for battery comms. I'm not sure it could be used for something else. That said, it seems to be a bigger pain than doing what I did and the docs (section 8.2) say it is the wifi port that shares the inverter comms. And I don't use wifi at all because it is so insecure. It...

    6000xp went off line

I couldn't find the *inverter* RS485 connection anywhere else (there is a port for the *battery* CAN/RS485 but I am using that for my batteries). The manual didn't specify where it was aside from that it is "shared" with the wifi connection on two of the pins. Chances are I missed it though. If...

I'm still waiting on a refund after sending my ethernet dongle back!

    6000xp went off line

Nope. I beat my head over this one. It won't. And it is because SA uses LocalConnect (port 8899) to get the data. That port is NOT opened on the wired ethernet dongle.

    6000xp went off line

If you want to make an RS485 connection to the 6000XP inverter, you will use two of the four wires that are part of the wireless/wired connection. Refer to the XP manual, section 8.2. Simply remove the covering box on the outside of the inverter, which will reveal a small card that is plugged...

    6000xp went off line

Ethernet dongle doesn't work with SA. The LocalConnect functionality doesn't work, which is what SA currently uses. That said, they are possibly 2-3 months away from having an RS485 approach that will bypass wifi/wired entirely.

    6000xp went off line

From what I'm seeing, that's a solid NO--quite the opposite, the most insecure possible. Well that's terrible. For half a second I had a tiny bit of hope I could use the dongle. But SA is working on the RS485 for it and I can pull data off it via my 'home grown' solution.

    6000xp went off line

Mine is wide open. You might check yours. This is why I went through the pain of trying the wired dongle, which also did not work. SA is now working on an RS485 solution and I have been able to get data directly from the inverter as well. And I've been working with @solarhombre on getting...

    6000xp went off line

I'll add that the wifi dongle is TERRIBLE for security. It continually broadcasts an open network that anyone can join and change the inverter settings. Personally, I do not use the dongle at all!

Charging small LiFePO4 (home built 12 volt UPS)

I might have been foolish, but I just replaced the Cyberpower lead acid batteries with equivalent LiFePO4 batteries. From what I read, you might not get accurate readings of power remaining/discharge time, but since it spends most of the time at full power, the feedback was it wouldn't hurt the...

    EG4 6000 XL won't communcate with the EG4-LL v1 batteries

Seems odd. The LL batteries (if they have 6 dips) should be at setting 1; if there are 4 dips, it should be at setting "0". Have you tried the CAN vs RS485 setting? I have the LL-S and I had to switch mine to use CAN. First, set the dips to "64" and then restart battery. Then hold down the...

    [Resolved] Dumb EG4 6000XP question

Resolved. Turned out I had changed the top battery setting from CAN to RS485 and the communication with the inverter was incorrect.

[Resolved via Code] Factory Reset 6000XP

Well, since no reply, I took the brute force approach... I send a modbus command to holding register 11 with bytes { 255,255 } and reset my system. Doesn't appear the factory reset works with the web app or the local connect approach. But the above did.

[Resolved via Code] Factory Reset 6000XP

@EG4_Jarrett or @EG4-Jacob I also just tried using the wifi dongle and either received "set failed" (via localconnect) or "No permission) using the web page. I want to factory reset my inverter, and I'd like to ideally do it without any internet connection (no wifi dongle), but if the dongle...

Announcing wombatt -- monitoring batteries and inverters

Isn't one of the SA solutions to put an ethernet splitter in the line and then you can listen to the traffic as it passes through. Might be a way to get the data.

[Resolved via Code] Factory Reset 6000XP

How do I factory reset the EG4 6000XP *without* the app or web connection? IE, using the inverter interface only.

Announcing wombatt -- monitoring batteries and inverters

Yeah, they seem to want to be either/or. I have the same problem with mine. I don't want the communication with my inverter-battery to stop, so I don't get battery data directly :(

    EG4 LL-S batteries - scratched LCD displays from EG4 / Signature Solar

My LL-S units were fine, but the inverter screen was scratched (brand new 6000xp). I thought it was the plastic film cover, but when I removed it, the scratches were still there :(.
