    LiFePo4 battery transportation under usage?

Hi @JohnnyBravo I have a LFP offroad setup and it works fine. Just make sure that you buy a quality battery. I have a pair of Relion 50 Ah batteries and they have suffered no ill effects from offroading, however, I strongly suspect that they are suffering from heat stress. It gets very hot here...

    Maximizing Alpicool AC/DC 26Q/25L fridge run-time..

From my personal experience, a similar sized fridge and similar battery capacity, your runtime is about right. I don't think you will improve that. To last a week, you'll either need to increase the temp in the fridge (at the risk of spoiling food) or get more battery capacity. Sure you'll find...

    Maximizing Alpicool AC/DC 26Q/25L fridge run-time..

Yikes... All I can suggest is using the fridge as a beer/drinks fridge? Just to keep it running & chilled. Can you build external LFP batteries for the Inergy, or build a giant milk crate system like what Will did on his youtube channel? The R600 Pro from Ecoflow is a good unit - LFP based, and...

Estimating charging efficiency of alternator vs generator

For heating, a diesel burning webasto unit can dual heat water and air, and be mounted under the vehicle - AND it's a LOT more efficient than burning diesel to charge batteries to run an electric heater. For the cooker, you can get petrol hobs - again - very clean burning (like any burner, you...

When not to neglect the resistance of a car body

Agreed. It it ain't broke, don't fix it. The only benefit that you would get would be fewer losses, but if you are happy right now, then you should be good to go. I have a 12v compressor mounted in my engine bay. It draws about 30A. The manufacturer recommends NOT to earth it to the body. it is...

Super capacitors are a horrible choice for solar. Change my mind

But wouldn't flooded lead acid be better (cheaper) than super capacitors for temporary drawdown surge? example - I want an espresso machine in my truck and it wants to pull more amps than my LiFePO4 can supply for the 30 seconds it needs to run, so the surge pulls from the FLA (then charges back...

Estimating charging efficiency of alternator vs generator

Wow... Might I suggest having a look at a couple of youtube channels by people who are VERY experienced in expedition type travel - Dan Grec's The Road Chose Me https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkyky5zC8R1Gi6YeeCR6BDg , and Andrew St Pierre White's 4XOverland...

When not to neglect the resistance of a car body

I have no issue with your work, I'm simply stating that the return path for high current applications would be preferable via an appropriately sized copper conductor rather than the vehicle's steel body or chassis. I think we all agree on that.

    Maximizing Alpicool AC/DC 26Q/25L fridge run-time..

Different fridges have different power consumption - This is a well documented fact. Maybe the Inergy's battery is not upto snuff, maybe the inergy is drawing too much power for its self management, maybe the ambient temperature is higher. Maybe the lead from the inergy to the fridge is too...

When not to neglect the resistance of a car body

Also remember that steel is not a great conductor - nowhere near as good as copper wire, you will see losses using the steel bodywork for the return path. Electrical conductivity in metals is a result of the movement of electrically charged particles. The atoms of metal elements are...

Use your car as a backup generator??

A starter battery can deliver immense amps (because that's what they are designed to do) over a relatively short period of time. The alternator has to be able to sustain the current though - hence my recommendation of using a clamp meter to measure current at various points. example - if you...

Use your car as a backup generator??

You'll need to know how much current the alternator can supply at idle with load on the electrical system (e.g. and inverter running). Smart alternators will de-rate as they warm up, so current just after starting is higher than if the engine has been running for an hour. The rating of the...

    Refrigerator for Vehicles

At the end of the day, you don't have to validate performance against other brands. Only 3 things matter: 1) The device performs adequately in the intended environment 2) You have enough battery & solar to power it 3) It's reliable. An Engle might not have the raw performance or efficiency of...

    EcoFlow R600

I don't think it does accept a charge from USB-C. It will accept charge from the DC charge port without the fans coming on, but I think it turns them on at about 90w. If you had a wall wart that output less than 90w in the acceptable voltage range (I think 10-24v) that would work. It wouldn't be...

    EcoFlow R600

So I've been using the R600 Pro to power my home office for the last 5 days and it seems to be working just fine. I bought the option with 2 x 110W panels, so I just laid them out on the roof ouside my home office window. They are decent panels. My only criticism would be that the lead from the...

    EcoFlow R600

OK - So I received my R600 Pro today. I haven't really done much with it except charge it up (it charged from the wall socket at about 750 watts, which is insane). I tried to fire up the app and register (why is this necessary?) and the app from google play is broken - it looks like it has no...

Cooled battery compartment helpful for LiFePO4 in 100F+/38C+ humid conditions? Also peltier and refrigerator experimental data.

I'm wondering if a water cooling option might be appropriate using the fridge? Put a copper loop inside the fridge, a small pump to circulate the water/coolant and a couple of loops around an insulated battery box? A thermostat inside the battery box that controls the pump would probably be...

Cooled battery compartment helpful for LiFePO4 in 100F+/38C+ humid conditions? Also peltier and refrigerator experimental data.

Following - I'm in Dubai and summer heat is pretty insane. A compact battery cooler would be interesting. It doesn't have to keep them cold - If it can keep the batteries below 35c, then that would be great. Mine are just powering a fridge, so low c rate solar charging & discharge. When the...

    alternator ideas

So 1hp per ~350 watts output so we can compare apples with apples. Amps are important for wiring, watts for everything else. E.g. 100Ah @ 12v is 1200Wh while 100Ah at 48v is 4800Wh... 1200Wh at 48v requires a 25Ah battery. Obviously if we were measuring engine power in kW that would be even...

    Emergency Power

humidity is no fun, but neither is warm beer (or spoiled milk). Fans use a lot less power than A/C, and a 12v fridge/freezer for emergency use might be a cheaper option with your bluetti or delta type battery with portable solar. Chest freezers are fairly efficient, so you could run one of those...

    alternator ideas

Isn't direct charging lithium batteries with an alternator considered a bad idea? Can your BMS cope with 48v? I'm sure there's plenty of 48v alternators, Then you just need a 48v DCDC charger. I just did a quick search and found a 48v 150A alternator on Alibaba - that sounds terrifying, and I'm...

Advertised BMS Capacity 120A, Inverter Needs More Amps

That's exactly what I was thinking. A dc-dc charger direct from the lithium batteries. Think of the lead-acid as a way to boost current short term without screwing up your expensive LFP batteries or roasting the BMS. I have no need for such a setup (purposefully no inverter).

Advertised BMS Capacity 120A, Inverter Needs More Amps

I've been thinking about just this - is anyone using an AGM or FLA for relatively short heavy currents (2kW) that the LiFePO & BMS won't like? I'm thinking Microwave, Espresso machine, even an induction hob? In the offroad world, you should run your heavy loads like winch & compressor off your...

    24v solar system for van

Don't rush into it. Plan your system, and buy once, cry once. Don't get too obsessed with how many amps are coming from/to where - all that really matters is how much is flowing into/out of the battery and SOC. You'll figure the rest out.

    Panels aquired, what controller?

I think the battleborn is a good choice. Not sure on price, but ReLion are decent US built batteries and can be run in series for 24v if desired. I have 2 x 50Ah ReLion RB50 in parallel and am pretty happy with them.
