Ha ha! Yes I've done that too, particularly with this new meter I have. But, I think I didn't do that when I got that result. Just to be sure though, I'm going to retest a little later today. I'm never too old to do stupid things. LLS

Mr Martin, Yes that is correct on the .12 amps. I'm going to test it again today at some point. As regards the wiring, I have the leads coming directly out of the panel (~3'), the positive lead has an inline 15 amp fuse plugged into it and then into the ~6 to8' feed wire going down into...

Good suggestion and easy to do. I'll turn off the feed to the SCC and turn the refrig on. The battery is at 13.2, but I seem to recall the SCC charging them up to ~14.4v. The SCC is set up for lithium. Would the SCC still only see so much less voltage even if the batteries were full...

The leads coming out the panel are about 3'. From the plugs on top, I bought 10' wires and had to clip off about 3', so about 6 to 7' to the panel. From the breaker to the SCC is about a foot. Again, these are 10ga wires bought from Rich when I bought the panel.

Just got some of the other replies. What is an MC4 connection? Testing with circuit loaded: turning on something in the rv, like the refrigerator. Once again, this set up was working fine until it wasn't.

Okay, did some more testing. It's about 3 pm here, and the panel was in pretty full sun. I got up on the roof and unplugged the panel pigtails before they plugged into the inline fuse and the wires leading to the SCC. The voltage was ~22v, the amps were ~.12a. Tested after the inline fuse...

The first shows battery voltage, and although there is no charging indicated, I note that the little sun symbol is showing next to the panel symbol at the top; before when the voltage was so much lower and with full sun, the moon symbol was showing. The second is the panel voltage; again...

Interesting: it's almost 6pm here, and the panel is in the full shade. The volts shown by the SCC are now 12.7v. Battery volts are still 13.2v.

Mr Sandals, Yes, with the panel wires connected, the controller is only registering the lesser voltage. Sometimes however I'll get more voltage, like up toward 10 volts or maybe a little more, but not the full output of the panel. Just went out and tested again. Pulled the panel wires...

Thanks for the responses. I need to clarify though: I'm getting ~18v with a voltmeter at the panel wire going into the SCC, but only ~ 2v at the screw lugs of the SCC. The SCC is also only registering ~2v. So I believe that there is no impediment to the wire between the panel and the SCC.

One other thought: if I put a switch on the BVS wire, could I stop the unit from charging from the alternator when I knew I was going to be running at low speed, like in a city, by just switching off the battery voltage sensing function?

How about if it's only a 120 amp alternator?
