    Unusual Generation in the Morning

It’s completely solved now! Here is a recap: 1) Single string in series 6 East Panels 6 West Panels starting to yield power suddenly at around 09:30 rather than gradually from around 05:00. All panels optimised. 2) All say it’s daft to have a string like that. Tigo say similar…that it’ll lose...

    Unusual Generation in the Morning

AFAIAA it was an academic study in Australia, 8 years ago. LOL?

    Unusual Generation in the Morning

I found a report that says single strings can work well with inclinations of 15 degrees and less, the single string being East and West. 17 is close to that really. But mine is 35 degrees. For top performance, mine needs different strings, even with optimisers. I don’t have acres of land…just...

    Unusual Generation in the Morning

I’m like that too…so is the installer at heart. Had to look up YMMV. LOL!

    Unusual Generation in the Morning

Thanks. I’m trying to cost how much energy I’d lose across 25 years against the cost of optimisers. It might be they save me £5 a year or £100 a year….I don’t know!

    Unusual Generation in the Morning

Rather than go into those, Tigo’s website doesn’t recommend putting East and West panels on the same string. What actually happens is that power generation is restricted across the entire string even in full sun at the start and end of a day.

    Unusual Generation in the Morning

Mixed up thread? My sorted out system I think will be three strings: 9 west to its own MPPT to be PV1 another 9 west to its own MPPT to be PV2 6 east to its own MPPT to be PV3 My question is about optimising the west strings which will se a chimney shadow some of the year…but no other shadows .

    Unusual Generation in the Morning

One last thing. Is it worth keeping the optimisers on the West roof and moving the East optimisers to it as well? Here’s the shadow detail: In March and April, when generation amounts have risen the West side gets a 60cm wide chimney shadow from the neighbour. (Our roof is the same height as...

    Unusual Generation in the Morning

Dear All Just had the installer round for a chat. He has offered to put in a three string inverter and do a new G99 (possibly for more export permission too) for free. We offered to pay the difference to the bigger inverter but he wants to do it for free. He also said that councils are...

    Unusual Generation in the Morning

ROI: I estimate the loss of production over a year will be around 1000KWh. So about £150 loss of export value + cost avoided by using Solar rather than grid. Can’t calculate that very well as we already generate more than we use. Value: learning experience for the installer? String Power The...

    Unusual Generation in the Morning

You all asked what my inverter is. I’ve just got home and looked in the loft. It’s a LuxPower. LXP-6K Hybrid. According to the info plate on it, it has 8000W max DC power. MPPT voltage range of 120 to 500V. I guess the 8000 is split between PV1 and PV2….4000/4000 but that might not be true…as...

    Unusual Generation in the Morning

Hahahahaha. I thought AFAIAA was a technical expression for a type of optimiser! Now, AFAIAA I know it’s not! Thank you for all your knowledge. I’m away from home for a while but will find out the details of my Inverter etc . My LuxPower Data History read out has about 50 Columns, many of...

    Unusual Generation in the Morning

So right now at 06:40, my string with 12 west facing is generating 250W at around 350V and my east west split string is generating 20W at around 420V

    I will. Thank you.

    Unusual Generation in the Morning

Thanks I don’t know very much about MPPTs. But I do know that when the east 6 are not producing much, around 20W total before around 8am even in bright sun the voltage is above 300V. Plenty high enough. Also, when the sun is lower than the apex of the roof putting the east 6 in the shade of...

    Unusual Generation in the Morning

My brain hurts! You quoted them take that to mean complete drop off of the string that contains the "heavily shaded PV-Modules"; I could be wrong, but if they didn't mean that, all they are saying is that heavily shaded panels won't produce power (which is kind of obvious). I thought it meant...

    Unusual Generation in the Morning

So 50% more would be around 60KWh….13% better.
  18. B

    Unusual Generation in the Morning

Yes indeed. Thank you. That’s a strong recommendation. I think my optimisers are Tigo. I’ll talk to the installers next week. I only have my data to go on… but think 53 KWh on a sunny day in May is pretty good…but 60 would be better! What do you think of my yield?
  19. B

    Unusual Generation in the Morning

Thanks for your thoughts! I’ll talk to them next week.

    Unusual Generation in the Morning

On closer reading, that’s not what is happening though….. When in shade, (before around 08:30 on the westward side) the west side are generating very little if anything (as in the Tigo article)….and the ones in direct sun are also generating very little if anything (not like the Tigo article)...

    Unusual Generation in the Morning

Thanks. I will. But what can they do? I know almost nothing about MPPT strings and thought they were just about battery charging. What are they - simply?

    Unusual Generation in the Morning

Thanks! I’d love to have it. I know that about 8 years ago it was poor for inclinations above 15 degrees…but optimiser tech probably improved since then. My 8am figures from today suggests it’s OK

    Unusual Generation in the Morning

I’m afraid I don’t know the answers to your last two paragraphs. I’m just an old bald homeowner! In cloud, mine are the same as yours. In bright sun it’s all fine this time of year after around 9am. Today at 8am was as you’d expect a good system in bright sun. Most unusual for mine! Per...

Sorry, my poor use of words.

    Unusual Generation in the Morning

A bit more detail. The idea being that when the sun is rising on the East, the West panels in the shade of the roof do not limit the generation of-the East panels which are in bright sun with no shadows. So in the afternoon, the opposite. But what happens is that in bright sun (which this...

    Unusual Generation in the Morning

Thanks Installed by a contractor. PV1, 12 West PV2, 6 West 6 East PV1 is superb PV2 doesn’t ’wake up’ in bright sun until around 9am, then jumps from 20W to around 300W then later, say 10:30 is fine until around 16:00. This time of year. Inverter is 8KW but export limited to 6KW In bright...

Thanks. I’ll look into that…never heard of a combiner box…just used optimisers on all.

    Unusual Generation in the Morning

I’ll check that, thanks. But they said they had 3 east and 9 west on one string.
