Recommendations: GFCI Inverter for off-grid type setup with small subpanel

I will have to give this some time to read and understand. Thank you for posting.

Recommendations: GFCI Inverter for off-grid type setup with small subpanel

Below is the inverter I have, and Giandel has confirmed to GFCI with this one. Yes, the grounding issue preventing GFCI from working as expected. I have no expectation of connecting to grid, even to charge. So not sure how this might affect the circuitry. ? Thanks for the response!

Recommendations: GFCI Inverter for off-grid type setup with small subpanel

Hey all. I'm looking for recommendations for an inverter running off a 100ah 24v Lifepo4 battery bank to power some odds and ends in my garage. But I want to run it through a sub-panel with a breaker or two and have GFCI protection either at the panel and/or the outlets. The basic cheap...

24 volt Battery build. Looking for advice

I do have a question. Is there much to be gained or lost in tinning the bars where they connect to the batteries? I'm thinking to prevent oxidation of the copper over time?

Thank you! The wires are long as they came this way from Overkill. A good problem I guess.

This is a little 4 cell 12v box I built for learning and for phone charging, camping and what-not.

24 volt Battery build. Looking for advice

I got the battery all built and all seems well. I'm topping off the charge with my new desktop variable power supply. Thanks everyone for all your help with this. It has been quite a learning experience. Next I'll be building out the power wall with inverter and MPPT charger (Victron)...

24 volt Battery build. Looking for advice

I appreciate hearing this. It helps me understand the battery mechanics better. But ultimately I just ordered new thinner bars that are wide enough to make the parallel and serious connections in one bar. My work time is worth more to me than the cost of the new bars. Cost me a bit, but I...

24 volt Battery build. Looking for advice

Quite a bit of extra work I have made for myself, but this should be pretty robust. Yes/No?

24 volt Battery build. Looking for advice

You gave me a much more accurate way to view the current flow. Thank you. I don't mind changing my plan here. I have plenty of copper pipe I could make bars out of to use on the 4p part of the battery. Does it make sense to do this and use the thicker bar for the 8S part? I can mill down...

24 volt Battery build. Looking for advice

Hi All. I'm building a 24 volt Lifepo4 battery and have a question or two. The pictures below illustrate my questions. I bought copper and made my own busbars. I didn't think it through well and ended up unable to stack busbars due to thickness. So I am thinking I can use 6 awg wire to jump...

    I bought these LifePo4 batteries....

Navitas are about 1.07 inches center to center stacked side by side, so shorter than headway. Those busbars should work, but you'd have to drill a hole.

    I bought these LifePo4 batteries....

Thanks for the heads up. I checked with my BMS maker and they say up to 24v series is ok. I am using the aluminum stock for now and will check the heat on it in use. I don't expect to be pulling many amps I don't think.

    I bought these LifePo4 batteries....

Well, initially I am using aluminum bus bars I am making myself. I may go to copper (crushed pipe) bars. If all else fails, then I will buy copper bars of some type. Batteryhookup is where I got mine.

I received my 150/60 MPPT charge controller. I'm still waiting on my BMS boards. I'm going two 12v batteries in series, mostly because I want them to be easily portable if I want to take them camping, and 32 batteries combined in 24v package is just too heavy. I am about ready to purchase an...

    Solar Panel recommendations please

I'm still working out what I am going to do with the panels exactly, but I do have a battery question. Can or should I put these inside my walk-in closet off the master bedroom? It just happens to be at the exterior wall where many panels will be ground mounted. I'm of course concerned about...

There are a couple of things I am not clear on regarding charging. Can you say how, or provide a formula for figuring out the max charging amps for a given set of batteries. Then, while charging, I have a 13.8v 60amp charging that is CC/CV. Does CC mean that it is going to push 60 amps, even...

    Solar Panel recommendations please

I've been holding off on the inverter purchase so that I don't buy something underpowered for the system I am building. Honestly, it's been a struggle with my better half to portion out the funds, but she is getting used to the idea. :) So that is why I started small, but appear to be getting...

    Solar Panel recommendations please

Just for kicks, what is the max number of panels the 150/60 might handle? Should I be looking at something else if I want to add a couple more 385watt panels? Do you recommend something other than Victron? They seemed like a pretty solid manufacturer, but I'm open. :) If they list more of the...

It may be way beyond my OP, but it is all fascinating to me. I appreciate you guys batting it around. I've often wandered how I might power more stuff during the day (computers, lights, TV/Surround System, etc) while the sun shines, but still charge the battery for minimal night stuff. Is...

I think I could easily get the Victron 150/60. Would that eliminate all the concerns and let me go back to the 2s2p panel connection discussed prior? I shouldn't have trusted the salesman's off the cuff 'yes this will work for your controller' response. :\

    Solar Panel recommendations please

I snagged some panels yesterday. I picked up 4 of these brand new Grade B panels at about $150 each, made by Mission in TX. Did I push the limit on my Victron 100/50 too much on these? I hope to build a frame and mount these in the next week. Specifications: Rated Power: 385W...

Well, that is fantastic news. Thanks so much for the equation. The next factor is that it will run on 12 volts. And I have another 12v LifePo4 battery bank, so I can still make this one 24v. Is there a way to figure out what the consumption would be using the 12v input? Something like...

So my Killowatt meter shows .26 KWH for my cpap. About 8 hours of use. So how do I work that out in relation to my battery storage? :)

    Solar Panel recommendations please

OK, Yep, I get it. I had high school electronics and did a lot of tinkering. I know at least what series and parallel mean. I appreciate the explanation though and it makes perfect sense. I'm leaning on 24v now. :)

    Solar Panel recommendations please

Just musing on the 4s 12v vs 8s 24v and using one BMS instead of two. Does 2 - 12v batteries make sense from the perspective of having two BMS's maybe doing a better job than one? Each monitoring 4 in series vs monitoring 8 in series? Might it be easier to find defective or dying cells? I...

    Solar Panel recommendations please

The CPAP has a heated humidifier, which is adjustable lower/higher/off. That is what I understand takes most of the power. I've seen several youtube vids of folks camping with a pretty small battery pack claiming it will last a couple of days. Probably not heated though. Just dry air...

    Solar Panel recommendations please

Really, this is just emergency power for CPAP, coffee maker, and laptops and whatnot like that. I don't want to shell out for something that will run my entire house. I just want to have something in case the grid goes down or whatever. So probably a 2000 watt Inverter is probably going to do...

I believe 4p4s in the Navitas prismatics gives me 100AH banks. Two of those. I'm not sure whether I am going to use them in series or parallel yet. Will that matter as far as choosing panels? My controller will handle either 12 or 24v. Recommendations on that?
