    ARC fault

Its interesting as AFDD (as we call them) are just about coming to market here in the UK. They are predicted to become more common place in years to come, we have a lot of really old buildings with extremely dubious fire safety so its a surprise we're so far behind with this technology...

Major problem with EcoFlow products, Voltage spikes!

Is the characteristics of the load that's the challenge, you're going to get this issue with most HF inverters trying to run universal (brushed) motors. I imagine the suppression caps in the saw are probably not in good shape either. The grid has a very low impedance, it'll suck up the crap...

Seplos BMS "Output Short Circuit Protection"

I think in some cases where people are getting this fault out of the box with Seplos there is something wrong with the BMS and disabling this protection just causes that fault to become very apparent when the BMS goes boom! That's why if you're getting this fault on day one, return the BMS, if...

Seplos BMS "Output Short Circuit Protection"

Was your system otherwise working, with a transient short circuit shutdown issue that happened once a week/month, or was it behaving like this out of the box? I suspect there's two very different issues getting mixed up.

Seplos BMS with a separate active balancing

Why do you thin the Seplos balancer will be inadequate, I've been running a 230Ah 16S pack on one for 18 months, cells went in balanced and are still balanced. This obsession with balancing is IMO driven by poor quality cells (or maybe poorly built systems), the constant rebalancing makes the...

Seplos BMS "Output Short Circuit Protection"

If you read my original post, I was having the same problem, my caution is regarding mciaio's experience though there could have been a defect with their BMS anyway, and disabling the protection, just turned it into a more catastrophic fault.

Seplos BMS "Output Short Circuit Protection"

There's probably a comparator doing the short circuit protection, would be trivial to have the micro hold its signal low, or use an internal DAC to generate a bunch of different thresholds for different revisions of the board.

Seplos BMS "Output Short Circuit Protection"

Mine is still working perfectly with the short circuit protection disabled, if you have an established, static, otherwise working system, with an appropriately rated fuse then I see no harm in turning it off. If you're struggling with this error during commissioning of a. system then I think...

Leave a space beteen racked batteries

Rodents and DC are a recipe for nightmares, I'd suggest you secure all the DC cables in way where even if the insulation is chewed off they cant arc together. I wouldnt worry about temperature, if you're cycling them every 24 hours I doubt you'll heat them much.

Firmware for Seplos BMS to work with Sofar ME3000SP

Working beautifully for me, gives me extra peace of mind as it throttles back if things start to get warm, and will disconnect the load if anything gets wonky.

    48V Inverter Recommendation

I brought my seplos from an aliexpress store called Minerals. Ive found the 3kw works pretty well, very rarely do I have loads over 3kw and even when I do it’s only for a few minutes when cooking. The money I saved on the inverter (only cost me £400) will more than cover the import costs, but we...

    48V Inverter Recommendation

Sofar ME3000 SP and Seplos BMS is a winning combination for me, I use hardly any peak rate electricity now - though winter will be tougher!

Need help Figuring this FIRE out!

I don't understand the logic in building a pack which you know is going to get destroyed by over discharge and overcharging in its first few cycles, and then relying on the chemical stability of LiFEPO4 that it doesn't turn into a blazing inferno. While the cell itself in a metal box (under...

I'd replace the panels but keep the inverter.

Inverter showing higher voltage than batteries

Make sure nothing is getting hot, no loose connections! You need check with a multimeter to see what is actually going on.

Are there any write ups of people who supply all their energy needs (including transportation) via solar?

Hopefully one day we'll all be able to use the grid to shuffle energy about, put the power in at home, and use that to charge your car at the office.

Seplos BMS "Output Short Circuit Protection"

oh no, do you think there's something up with the inverter?

Seplos BMS "Output Short Circuit Protection"

Yeah I'd rather of left it on, but I doubt those little FETs could do much under an actual short-circuit with the huge cells I've got connected, that's what my appropriately rated HRC fuse is there for.

Seplos BMS "Output Short Circuit Protection"

As I understand it you can't adjust threshold for this protection as its implemented in hardware, but if you look in the GUI theres a bunch of (poorly formatted) toggle switches - I believe I disabled it there - I've not had any more incidents yet anyhow.

Seplos BMS "Output Short Circuit Protection"

My Seplos 150A BMS is hard wired to my Sofar ME3000SP Charger/Inverter, everything runs normally most of the time, however once a week the BMS disconnects with a "Output Short Circuit Protection" condition, it reconnects shortly after but the error shuts-down the inverter/charger until I can...

I have my system up and running now it consists of; 16x DOCAN 230Ah 3.2V LiFePo4 Seplos 150A BMS (48150-1101-10C-SP15-16S) Inverter/Charger Sofar ME3000 SP with CT (secondhand) Raspberry Pi setup with remote serial interface for monitoring The pack is split across two rack shelves with cellls...

Bottom balance - why so unpopular?

First charge, started with every cell at 2.80V, Seplos BMS started balancing at 3.425V, it metered 232Ah into my 230Ah EVE cells (I started at 5Ah). NOTE: Ignore the "Total Capacity" I set this higher to prevent my Inverter/Charger halting the charge early.

Disagreeing with a Youtuber - DC Breaker Safety Concerns

It required a degree of interpretation, if I was looking for a how to wire a plug tutorial and there was over 5% downvotes that would immediately rise my suspicions and cause me to go looking beyond the top-rated sycophants posts. For home DIY projects this rule was pretty foolproof.

Bottom balance - why so unpopular?

I did think about that, also efficiency improvements of having all the cells at a higher voltage, but the discharge curve is so flat, it seems unlikely to really be a problem. Another thought is I suppose top-balancing is quite simple and lower risk - easy to setup a power supply with a fixed...

Bottom balance - why so unpopular?

Under normal operation I won't be taking them down below 3.0V but I will be running them down most days as this is a grid-tied application. My BMS should have a communication with the charger controller/inverter so if everything is setup correctly I wouldn't expect any BMS disconnects - though...

Bottom balance - why so unpopular?

I'm constructing a 48V nominal 230Ah LifePO4 with a 16S configuration of EVE's. At the moment I have them all paralleled up and a programmable load set to 2.80V bringing them all down to that voltage. My plan is to bring them down to 2.60V just before I assemble the packs, and then tape they...

Disagreeing with a Youtuber - DC Breaker Safety Concerns

Youtube has become such a bad platform for technical discussion, I've wasted several hours of my life trying to construct helpful comments, and they just get voted into oblivion, replaced by "YT presenter name, you're incredible, amazing, free energy, how are you so incredibly brilliant, you've...

    Cause of Battery Fire

Remember if you have 16 230Ah cells paralleled up thats a 3680Ah pack, a power supply at 2A could take two months to fill that up.
