JBD BMS - How to correct inaccurate SOC value ✅

So I'm having a related issue with my two packs using JBD 120a 4s BMSs bought from Overkill. These units like to reset their own stats now and again. I had my batteries at somewhere in the low 60s percent SOC the other day, but the BMSs have reset themselves and show 99% and the available...

New SOK 100ah Cells Out of Balance

Thank you all for this thread! I'm helping a friend out with her van electrics, and she (somewhat on my recommendation) bought a pair of SOK 206Ah batteries. I've got them at my house, I just got both charged up, and noticed this same cell imbalance (though only .174 delta at most) on one pack...

One cell spiking while under charge

I can't speak to active balancers, I've not used one, but it makes sense that two balancers might fight each other. An active balancer would be far better than the weak little one the BMS itself offers. Glad to hear you got your issue sorted out too!

One cell spiking while under charge

So it seems resolved! When I got the lid off that one pack, I found the hut holding the pair of 6awg cables from the last cell positive to the box lid terminal wasn't super-tight. Got that resolved, did a little testing, all seemed well. Put the pack back in my van and got it hooked up to the...

One cell spiking while under charge

So here's the BMS settings for each pack, three screenshots each. B1, B2. B2 is the trouble pack. I do see that I have a cell undervoltage release value different between them, I'll have to get that resolved, but that shouldn't be pertinent here. That said, if I have anything obviously set...

One cell spiking while under charge

I got all eight cells at the same time. They all tested the same voltage upon receipt, so I just took four for one pack, four for the other, so essentiall random. I did a good top balance when I first assembled the packs. The four cells in each pack all are very close at rest or under light...

One cell spiking while under charge

Ahh, I see where you're going now. Yeah I'll get screenshots of the settings on both packs and post them when I can.

One cell spiking while under charge

Yes, first screenshot is with charge going in and the first cell spiking. Then I disabled charging via the BMS and took the second screenshot.

One cell spiking while under charge

I'll have to do some screenshots of the settings once I'm back at the van (I've got it in a friend's shop nearby). I'm pretty positive I saved the settings from one and used them on the other. One battery works fine, one is exhibiting issues. "Charge fets are still closed" - where do you see...

One cell spiking while under charge

Hi gang. I've got two LiFePO4 banks I built last year out of EVE 280Ah cells, using JBD BMSs. I've really had no troubles with these at all, except twice - once a few months ago while on a trip in my van build-in-progress, and then again just a little while ago while testing this out after...

    Beware @Michael B Caro

It's been a year and a day since I sent Michael my funds for eight Lishen cells. Still waiting on a refund.

    Busbar current carrying capacity

Is the "whole terminal area must be covered" a critical thing here? I've seen folks using wiring with lugs in place of the flat rigid bus bars - and obviously the surface of the lug doesn't cover the entire surface of the terminal.

Overkill Solar 4s BMS 120a LifePo4 Lug Size

I think you misread my comment. I was saying one has nothing to do with the other, as far as the online calculators go.
  14. S

Overkill Solar 4s BMS 120a LifePo4 Lug Size

I'm pretty sure those calculators only cover current/amps/etc., i.e. how many of X awg cable you should use to match the capacity of a single Y awg cable - nothing to do with how many you can physically combine in a single lug. The real test will be, like you said, if it's a solid crimp and it...

Overkill Solar 4s BMS 120a LifePo4 Lug Size

So that begs the question, with these specific BMSs - seeing as they have three spots on either side, and the ones that come with wires soldered have all three occupied, and the ones with the screw terminals soldered on have two spots - is it possible/wise/whatever to just go with a single beefy...

Overkill Solar 4s BMS 120a LifePo4 Lug Size

https://www.amazon.com/IIVVERR-Self-locking-Terminal-autom%C3%A1tico-Espaciador/dp/B08L1N2SJZ/ref=sr_1_158 This is what I found - the sizes listed look good as far as the measurements I took on the unit. Dirt cheap too, shipping was more, and the big bummer is delivery isn't til the end of the...

Overkill Solar 4s BMS 120a LifePo4 Lug Size

On a slight tangent - the raised M6 threaded terminals you can get with these BMSs - are those bits of hardware something standard and available in general? I'm now thinking (from advice from a friend) I should try and get hold of some of these and solder them on. I was leaning toward just using...

Overkill Solar 4s BMS 120a LifePo4 Lug Size

So today I hit a local hardware store and picked up a couple of lugs, a 4 and a 2, and also got a bit of 6awg wire, thinking about putting a pair of that gauge wire down on two of the three spots on either side of the BMS, and then combining those two wires into a single lug - the pair of 6 awg...

Overkill Solar 4s BMS 120a LifePo4 Lug Size

That calculator appears to show the effective gauge of the combined wires - i.e. how much juice can be pushed through. Not physical size and certainly nothing as far as what size lugs to use. I've got the Overkills and I'm looking to attach three 8wg on each side. From what I can tell, the lug...

Bare - no heat shrink? No brush-on insulation (silicone I think? I'm trying to remember what my guy mentioned when I quizzed him on the topic)?

DIY bus bars using twisted copper cable

Hey gang - I’ve got some LiFePo4 cells on order, and they’ll come with the usual set of bus bars and posts. But I’ll be building these packs to go into a van build, so beyond the usual concerns of the effects of expansion/contraction of cells on the bus bars and posts, there’s the added factor...
