    Daly BMS issue

New 200amp 4s smart BMS. Worked fine for about a month but now cell 1 is showing incorrect cell voltage. Confirmed with a meter all 4 cells are within .002v Daly reports cell one at .134v lower which is a substantial error. Things I have tried: Completely disconnect BMS and reinstall per...

My typo. Should be 3p/8s. I don't seem to be able to edit my original post. Thanks for pointing that out.

    New RV system

Built in the basement of our new 5th Wheel. The stock wall was moved and all components mounted on newly claimed space. (Blue tape shows old wall layout. The battery bank slides in under the staircase to the bedroom. Time to hit the road. ;-) 600Ah CALB 3s/8p w/ Daly 200Ah@24v BMS (12) 200 watt...

    Thoughts on dhgate

Wife and I are starting a new mobile solar project on a fifth wheel trailer. We have had been happy with the CALB cells in our last project. I am thinking about ordering (8) CALB 3.2v/400ah cells to make a 24v/400 ah bank. Total cost with busbars, shipping etc is just under $3000.00 which makes...

Why cheap BMS controllers can't do high currents

All this...is why I bottom balanced my cells and keep max charging voltage to 3.4v/cell or 13.6v for my 12v nominal pack. That and a low voltage disconnect and no worries about a cheaply made component starting a fire or trashing my battery.

    Where did the shill go?

So you guys obviously give him enough discount to make money undercutting other dealers retail prices including your own? How much mark-up is on this stuff that it could pass through so many hands making a profit at each stop? Why not just give all customers the better pricing you give to this...

    Where did the shill go?

I think the real business there was the membership fee. Looking into the program you can sign up, recruit others and make money yourself. Pyramid schemes are nothing new and any business that makes a secret of their pricing pending shelling out cash first reeks of nefarious scheming to me.

    LiFePO4 Bottom Balancing Tricks

Now the monotony comes in step 4. You have to be careful when draining your cells that you don't go below 2.5V. Somewhere around 2.0V you will begin to permanently damage your LiFePO4 cells. I generally hook up resistors, set a timer, check back, rinse and repeat until I'm at 2.5V. This is a...

    LiFePo4 Cells out of balance.

I'll be interested to see if you can save them. Everything I have read states that below 2.5v is likely to ruin the cell.

    Battleborn or Renogy Lifepo4 batteries

I was also impressed with BB interior construction. Curious if BB has any plans to build larger batteries. I think they would do well with 200, 300 or even larger amp batteries in 12v and 24v. I think a single BMS regulating a single battery could be more cost effective and more efficient...

Can I get away without BMS?

Sure. All the battery care about is not being overcharged, over discharged or charged when cells are frozen. There are different ways to accomplish that although if you accidentally miss it could make your battery pack hazardous waste. If you want active cell balancing then it becomes more...

    Romex and male plugs?

I would just use the hardwire connector. Pull the cover off and it should be marked for conductors.

    Series PV for RV?

Here is an interesting write up on the subject of shading and bypass diodes. Here is a experiment between series and shading with some pretty decent controls. Note how even a very small shadow drops the production down below the output of a single panel in series. You can see a similar test...

    Series PV for RV?

Every test I have seen connecting panels in series that have bypass diodes including my own have shown that shading even a small part of one panel still has a dramatic effect on production. For that reason I installed my panels in parallel and cabled up to compensate for voltage drop. When there...

In Response to Will Prowse's "$950 "Battle Born" Battery Tear Down" Video

Very funny. It was obvious that he was feigning displeasure and did any one else catch the double entendre? "Can't rely on" LOL. I'm not sure if he was referring to Relion or Lion batteries though. (at 2:00 minutes) I guess Will will have to go out there and find out for himself what they are...

    Our Truck Camper solar

Yea, that's all inside the inverter charger. I shouldn't ever be exposing our inverter charger to more than 30 amps AC loads. The 30 amp breaker on the shore should pop at 30 as well as the 30 amp main in the camper. You could install a separate 25 amp ac breaker before the inverter charger if...

    Our Truck Camper solar

Still confused. Not using alternating current for anything on the DC side. The only place they co-exist is in the inverter charger. The LVCO for the inverter is on the DC side. Battery disconnects to inverter due to low voltage (THOR) = no ac power from inverter = ac LVDC. Also Inverter...

    Our Truck Camper solar

Not sure I know what you mean. The BP would be between the battery and the DC distribution panel. Unless you were back feeding a DC circuit current would only be flowing one way through the BP. Any dc current the inverter charger is making would flow to the battery and then on to the DC...

    Our Truck Camper solar

The victron would be between the battery bus and the dc load. No charging through it. The DC for the AC inverter would be between the inverter and the battery and not through the Victron BP.

    Our Truck Camper solar

Sure. You can size it anyway you want. 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 etc. 12v, 24v, 36v, 48v. Lots of options. A 400ah bank is plenty for most things in a TC. One nice thing about lithium is that you don't need to worry about having enough solar as you don't need regular full charges or...

    Our Truck Camper solar

I'm sort of liking the idea of the inverter LVCO handling the AC side. The Victron Battery Protect on the DC side and the Thor as a redundant backup in case either the inverter or victron fail. Since it has it's own voltage sensing circuit it operates independently of everything else in the...

    Our Truck Camper solar

There are a few ways you could trigger a solenoid disconnect by voltage. I am leaning toward buying one of these. Not very creative and pretty expensive for what it is but looks like it would do the trick. They make 80 and 200 amp kits as well. https://thorpowerproducts.com/product/thi-lvd-500-kit/

    Bottom balancing on LiFePo

Cell balancing is typically done at the bottom with individual raw cells in a system without a top balancing BMS. (what I did) This allows the cells to be tight at the bottom end of their capacity and hopefully keeping any one cell from falling off before a low voltage cut off disconnects the...

    Fuse size

I'm sure others will disagree but a breaker or fuse between panels and SCC isn't required. I installed a circuit breaker instead of a switch since it works as a switch but solar panels don't cause concern by over current of the conductor if it is sized correctly. Fusing is to protect the...

    Tomfoolery

I think the delineation would most likely be if someone were to purchase a service such as paying for advice or "blueprints" At that point one has reasonable expectations for accuracy as a contract where both parties received benefit has been fulfilled. MidNite Solar Battery Capacity Meter

It looks like just a voltage meter. It should be reasonably accurate for a rested battery without any charging or loads on it. It won't be accurate while the battery is being charged or discharged though. For accurate readings of battery SOC during dynamic conditions go with a shunt based...

New to solar MPPT Lifepo4 question

I would consult with the manufacturer of the solar charge controller. This is from Renogy for their controllers. On my Victron the manual states to connect the battery before solar panels but doesn't go any farther with warnings. When the battery was disconnected my MPPT monitor screamed at me...

New to solar MPPT Lifepo4 question

You could install battery relay isolator on the solar cable between the panels and the MPPT. When the battery power is cut it will disconnect the solar panels.
