DC-DC ON-BOARD BATTERY CHARGER WITH MPPT

The renogy is limited to 25 Volts, 400 watts solar, so you have to wire in parallel. You can get greater than 25a from solar.

Has anyone TRULY figured out how to put a roof rack on a high top (fiberglass) van?

I ended up creating a roof rack using aluminum rails attached to feet that are VHB'd to the roof. This video shows most of it.

    Ideas for simple wind fairing?

cardboard template is a good idea, I also hadn't considered making it from a metal sheet, I was going to go with thick ABS plastic. Bent metal would probably look more OEM than plastic with a cutout to account for the hump..

    Ideas for simple wind fairing?

Oh yeah I understand the dynamics of wind fairings for roof racks. No one is gluing anything lol.

    Ideas for simple wind fairing?

I've got a video in the works that'll be on my youtube when it's done.

    Ideas for simple wind fairing?

Just from the front to reduce wind noise and prevent upward wind force since they are held down with VHB.

    Ideas for simple wind fairing?

I may be able to slide them back just a bit, I'll have to check. Either way I can still mount something onto the panel itself, I just don't know what. Possibly bent door brackets. The hump isn't that high, it's more the dips on the side that I have to account for. I'll have to cut the...

    Ideas for simple wind fairing?

I'd like to make some kind of wind fairing to prevent as much wind as I can from going under the panels and pushing up. I don't want to have to drill anything, since that was the whole point of using VHB with this aluminum mounting rack setup. There are plenty of decent tutorials showing some...

    Share your safety tether ideas

I'll try to get a photo of my current setup. The plastic I'm referring to are actually brand new thick plastic mounting holes that are part of the brand new MaxxFan frame.

No. The wire is connected to plastic.

    Share your safety tether ideas

Hi gang. I've finally got my panels mounted to my roof using VHB, but I'd like to go the extra mile by putting a couple redundant safety tethers in case something unexpected happens. Right now what I've done is used some steel wire (1/16" marine grade, the kind made for railings) and attached...

proper fusing for 300w in parallel and question about renogy kit contents

What is your reasoning behind the different sizings? What if I used a 30a breaker and 30a fuse?

proper fusing for 300w in parallel and question about renogy kit contents

Hi all, I recently started installing a 300 watt renogy kit that I bought last year and am realizing that they may have designed the kit assuming you would wire the panels in series rather than in parallel. They provided a 10 amp mc4 inline fuse but I'm thinking that has no use so I'm trying...

Is it safe to mount panels on a vehicle roof using clamps?

Are your panels held down by clamps? My main concern is whether or not clamping force is appropriate for a moving vehicle. I don't really understand the engineering guarantees behind clamps. They certainly feel snug and secure, and I did use loctite and will make sure I check on it every so...

Is it safe to mount panels on a vehicle roof using clamps?

Thanks for the suggestions. What I may do is stick a standard unistrut L-bracket in place of the end clamps and drill into the side of the panels. I'd rather be done with it but I'm not sure how comfortable I feel with it the way it is.

Is it safe to mount panels on a vehicle roof using clamps?

You've used them on a vehicle mounted setup? Just want to be clear since I noticed your signature has a bunch of different solar applications :).

Is it safe to mount panels on a vehicle roof using clamps?

It's possible I'm supposed to use some kind of locking pin in that small hole to prevent horizontal slide. And for what it's worth the spring nuts under the rail have teeth, so it should not slide back.. but yeah.. the end clamps are what seem questionable to me, even though they seem pretty...

Is it safe to mount panels on a vehicle roof using clamps?

I finally finished getting my three 100w panels on my RV using aluminum unistrut rails, and my first attempt at mounting them is using standard mounting clamps like these: https://www.solarflexion.com/product-p/c1210ec-24.htm They are clamped down tight and don't budge, but something feels a...

Newcomer preparing my van for off-grid living

Well for one I don't have solar. But when I do, I won't be adding enough panels to run the AC. I'll just be adding fans to keep cool.

Has anyone TRULY figured out how to put a roof rack on a high top (fiberglass) van?

I think i will be going forward with some kind of mounts that I can attach a roof rack onto. It seems like the Thule artificial rain gutter mounts will be best, mounted to the side of fiberglass roof. That makes sense that the main force will be a pulling up rather than pushing down.

How to charge my RV batteries from my Tow Vehicle Alternator while driving

There's an FLA battery setting as well. It has all the common ones plus lithium. You can download the manual from Renogy and learn all this and Renogy's customer support is also pretty responsive and helpful I've found. I removed the existing solenoid based isolator out of mine. This device...

How to charge my RV batteries from my Tow Vehicle Alternator while driving

Yes, it supports lithium, just have to switch a toggle to lithium (and can disconnect the battery temperature sensor in that scenario too).

How to charge my RV batteries from my Tow Vehicle Alternator while driving

Can confirm, I just installed this and it's such an elegant solution. In my opinion this totally obsoletes Renogy's own DC-DC dedicated chargers. Even if you already had a separate MPPT, this would be superior to use on its own than the 40a DC-DC because it has an internal voltage sensing...

Has anyone TRULY figured out how to put a roof rack on a high top (fiberglass) van?

I'm not sure the fiberglass roof is designed to hold anything of substantial weight so I've avoided looking at anything that involves mounting directly to it. It might be my only option though if I want more than two solar panels... :/

Has anyone TRULY figured out how to put a roof rack on a high top (fiberglass) van?

I'll take a look into this. Thanks. I have family that can work a welder. I found out my rain gutters are a no-go since the roof sits directly on top of them so theres no room to clamp.

DC-DC ON-BOARD BATTERY CHARGER WITH MPPT

I love the electric skateboard idea. I think i need to get one of those too! I imagine you'd be fine with a 100aH lithium like you suggested. I have two 125aH AGMs (that of course I can only get 50% of) but honestly I'm thinking I could get away with JUST charging off the alternator if...

Has anyone TRULY figured out how to put a roof rack on a high top (fiberglass) van?

I've searched the web for weeks and have yet to come up with anything. All I want to know is what to buy to put a roof rack on a high top van (roof goes ~21 inches above the drip rail). I want to mount three 100w panels but believe mounting them onto some kind of rack is my only option. I...

DC-DC ON-BOARD BATTERY CHARGER WITH MPPT

I just installed the renogy one if you have any questions you want to direct my way. So far it's awesome. I was looking for a DC-DC multi-stage charger but didn't like that all of them seemed to need you to run both positive, negative, AND a voltage sensor feed from the starter battery. This...

Curious if this "back-channel" to the inverter could be dangerous

So I did find out the logic of this particular transfer switch (GoPower TS-30 - which is just a rebranded Progressive Dynamics switch). From Progressive Dynamics manual: That being the case, I would prefer the reverse logic, so I'm going to swap the connections, that way the above mentioned...

SOLD a brand new Renogy Rover 40a MPPT with Bluetooth

I bought the 300w Renogy solar kit from Amazon but ended up getting a different charge controller so I'm selling the one it came with. It was never used and still has the plastic film on the display. Also comes with the bluetooth module so you can see what's going on via your smartphone. I'm...

Curious if this "back-channel" to the inverter could be dangerous

That's a good plan, i'll definitely block off those extra outlets just in case. Hmm yeah I may do that. GoPower will tell me which set of terminals have priority and then I can decide. I'll at least make sure to point that out in the video I recorded as I set it up :P The more I think...
