I don't have a BMS installed on my battery pack. It's 16.5 as I am not charging the 4S pack to 100% which is 16.8V. 4,2V per cell. My 4S packs stay within 10-20mV of each other and have done for months. I did install a Daley BMS and still the same problem.

I have three panels the same. Two on the roof and one on the back of my Moho at 90 degrees to the ground facing south. I was thinking to keep the voltage up I could have the two on the roof in parallel and then that pair in series with the one on the back.

Could I put two in parallel and then that pair in series with another? Total voltage would be 70v still and I could use all my panels…

I read something the other day about when the voltage from the panels drops below 15v it has trouble charging efficiently? So I thought during the winter I would put them in series as two panels generating say 12v each would make 24v… Have you heard about this sort of thing?

yes it’s Lithium Ion and the inverter is a Victron inverter so should be fine!? One of the other packs went out of balance now so I’m beginning to think perhaps it’s a BMS issue? Will continue to investigate!

Thanks for the replies… I’ll take the BMS out of the circuit when I balance charge… is it safe to balance charge the battery when the power source for balance charging is the actual battery? Is it safe to do so via the inverter?

Hi This may be a stupid question but here goes… I have a 4s LFP battery pack. 270ah of 18650 cells. I have a BMS that only balances at 35ma when the pack voltages reach 4.18 which doesn’t happen as I’m not charging then to 100%. I top balanced the packs about a month ago and checking them...

And I’ve now installed the BMS again… going to continue testing pack voltages etc :)

UPDATE I balanced my packs within a 0.09v range and have charged/partially discharged over 4 days and the range is still the same without a BMS. No overheating of any cells. I did find a blackened cable end going into my inverter on the positive cable which I’ve cut back and now have zero...

Ah I see... So this BMS will only manage charging balancing and from what I have found at 35ma...? I was only charging it to about 80% capacity then draining to about 40% capacity as my solar was keeping it topped up... That would mean it was never hitting a high enough voltage to start...
