    Recycling Large Lifepo4 batteries

Yeah, I've been talking to them, and they're wanting me to go to some vendors. I really want to avoid having to disassemble these myself, there are chemicals in there that are likely toxic, and the burnt wire bundles are likely to cause additional shorts as I work on them.

    Recycling Large Lifepo4 batteries

They’re unfortunately damaged and no longer workable safely. Chemicals oozed out of some of the cells and burnt/melted balance wires.

    Recycling Large Lifepo4 batteries

Having a somewhat difficult time finding a place locally that'll take back my 10kWh (200Ah x 48V) LiFepo4 batteries. Wondering if anyone has had any success doing this, and what kind of places they went to? Do I need to deconstruct the batteries into smaller/individual cells? The original...

That's a good idea, also, I have 1-ton ratchet straps that could use for this, just need a ramp of sorts.

Oh the tripod is a good idea, I hadn't thought of that design. Could build one from 3 sticks of lumber.

    Mounting/moving heavy wall-mounted batteries

This is a detached garage, no plans for insulation. :) It was a lot nicer working in the atti Exactly my plan... The bolts can stay, the hoist will go in the box - may even be useful for other heavy lifting. My next "fun" challenge is going to be to take the 3 old/broken batteries I took off...

    Mounting/moving heavy wall-mounted batteries

Just following up here - after much iteration and deliberation, I found a decent solution for this. I grabbed a chain hoist ($50), sling ($13) ( and D-rings ($6/ea) from Harbor Freight and engineered an eye-bolt I can put enough weight on (using a 4x4 and threaded 1/2" rod). Had to crawl around...

    Mounting/moving heavy wall-mounted batteries

Nice, yeah, that's a good solution (Andy of Off-Grid-Garage Australia does that, as well, to maneuver batteries). I don't have a jack nor do I know anybody nearby to borrow one (and I don't want to have to find space to store one if I buy one). That would definitely be a nice solution, though...

    Mounting/moving heavy wall-mounted batteries

I am in the middle of removing and replacing some very heavy (220lb/ea) wall-mounted LifePo4 batteries. When I installed them initially, it was a 3-person effort (two people with ropes/pulleys, one navigating the things into place). Now, I'm trying to do this on my own. I bought some 1-ton...

Ideas/tips for safe disposal of leaked Lifepo4 batteries

I have 3 10 kWh batteries that failed catastrophically and need to be disposed. They’re mounted on a wall and weigh 220lbs/ea. I manually wrangled the first one off the wall and dragged it along my garage floor, but it left a streak of liquid. I cleaned it up with gloves but am now worried about...

Melted Wiring in GSL Battery - Any idea what went wrong here?

So the claim made was that these settings can be overridden by the Flexnet. These settings were done according to manufacturer recommendations for these batteries.

Melted Wiring in GSL Battery - Any idea what went wrong here?

I can’t say I’ve personally confirmed this bad behavior or even believe that the Flexnet does this, but I didn’t really lose any functionality I cared about by ditching it.

Work in Progress - But it's alive!

I followed Andy's advice (off grid garage Australia) on configuring the NEEY to turn on at 3.45V and back off at 3.40V... And that seems to have worked okay. To be transparent, I haven't really cycled this pack yet, I am still working on rebuilding my DC distribution before I go through the...

Yeah, trying - but since I have little recourse, I'll take a replacement for the 3 batterries that died (and I'll just have to wait for the 4th one to die, as well).

Melted Wiring in GSL Battery - Any idea what went wrong here?

Iron Edison was (they're out of business now) a company in Colorado. Originally, they built their own batteries out of CATL cells. Our house came with one of these batteries when we bought it: Unfortunately, the BMS on this battery had become unreliable, likely due to rodents that lived...

    Seplos CAN BUS RS485 48v 200A 8S-16S BMS

There is a parameter in the firmware for use with an external on/off switch (there’s a 2 pin header near the balancing section for this). It seems the firmware upgrade flipped that parameter to the other setting. You can keep it on for now by shorting out those two pins.

    Oops - I shorted out a 48V/400Ah Lifepo4 battery

This happened dismantling the system. So the starting point was everything connected. This was literally the very first lug I undid (my intent was to defuse the rest of the system by disconnecting the cells).

They were probably not. There are specific gloves for electrical work. But… they were what I had and they 100% helped protect my hands. The little blister was gone after two days.

Melted Wiring in GSL Battery - Any idea what went wrong here?

I just re-opened battery 4 (the one where GSL recommended a new BMS) and inspected it more closely. Based on the seepage from the cells, even though they show consistent voltage, I think this thing is pretty cooked. I think it only shows voltage because it's a 16s4p and each of the 16 parallel...

Melted Wiring in GSL Battery - Any idea what went wrong here?

In an ideal world, I could just take this stuff, toss it out and replace it, but I spent about $25k on these less than two years ago, so not really an option to just give up and start over. Barring that, my goal is to get all four batteries replaced with their new design - which is an ongoing...

Are they the white server rack ones? I think those just use the same seplos BMS. You’d need a windows machine and a RS485 adapter though.

Yeah… I will take some more pics of one of the batteries next time I open one up. The cells looked pretty different from what I’ve seen, almost like a 16p4s configuration.
