Solar Newbee on the Forum from AZ

Yes, I saw that. I'm going to make sure there is a DC to DC converter or some other protection for the alternator. MB alternators are very expensive. ;-) Thanks.

Yes, because the controller will be programmed to now charge a LiFePO4 battery. My question now is, do I need to add something in the alternator charge line to make it safe to charge a LiFePo4 battery?

I will keep you posted. Our refrigerator is DC only compressor (10.7 cu.ft.) and I'm pretty impressed with it's performance. I did a test on Tuesday when it was 110F+. I started the refrigerator on #2 of 5 at 9:00 when it was over 90F. I checked back at noon and the freezer was 19F and the...

    Is Zamp ZS-30S Adequate?

Looking forward to this fall when we return from our road trip, if we want to have enough solar panels so we can do some boon docking - what changes would we need to make? Replace the solar panels and controller with ???? I'll be researching that next.

    Is Zamp ZS-30S Adequate?

My MH has a Zamp ZS-30A (which supports 510W of solar or 25.4V max) and I have two SunPower 100W panels. Will this system charge my BigBattery OWL MAX 2 LIFEPO4 - 228AH battery? Is there anything I need to change immediately knowing that in the fall I plan to add more solar panels and probably a...

I did the audit and decided finally (after much research) to go the the BigBattery 12V OWL MAX 2 - LIFEPO4 - 228AH - 3.018KWH. Since we are leaving in three weeks, I figured this will get us by until we get back when we will upgrade the controller and panels. Happy to get rid of the group 31...

Solar Newbee on the Forum from AZ

That is what I'm thinking. The generator is diesel so it doesn't use much fuel and will be the backup. Our refrigerator is 12vdc and that is the most critical item for us. We can deal without power for most other items for a while. I'll need to do an audit tomorrow and determine critical need...

Solar Newbee on the Forum from AZ

Here is my 'plan'. We have a MH and are leaving AZ on July 6. It is too hot here to do DIY modifications until the fall. So, I've decided I want to replace our batteries with one lithium battery or two lithium batteries. When we return in the fall, I'll change out the two factory installed...

I want prebuilt. I'm an EE but don't have the time to building my own.

Sorry, I see I left off the question. The first upgrade to my Navion MH is new battery(ies). The two group 31 deep cycle batteries (NAPA 8231) need to be replaced. Where can I see an evaluation of possible lithium batters?

Does anyone answer questions on this forum? The FilterGuy must be automated response?

I'm an electrical engineer who is new to solar and this forum. We recently bought a 2020 Winnebago Navion View 24D. It came with a solar system that I'm just now beginning to know. The first thing is batteries. I know that the NAPA 8231 batteries need to go and be replaced with better batteries...
