The 5k btu does cool it down. Takes a little while though. But you're correct in that it doesn't have insulation. I put a thermostat in there that is set to turn it off at 70 and turn it on at 74. From 74 to 70 degrees takes waaayy longer than it takes to heat back up to 74 degrees.
