Victron is 10 times as expensive as Voltronic

True, if it's off grid, the multi-Plus is the best option if you're on a budget (like I am). There are a lot more used MP 3000 on the used market then Quattro so they don't resell it for as much. I think the Quattro is built better but victron is already a quality inverter.

    Need to Reduce solar voltage!!

Is that before or after you derate the wire? Anyway, it's not particularly unsafe and with that long of run wire is expensive. That's why you're getting the voltage dropped though. 10 AWG is your standard size/smallest typically used on houses solar wire. 535 watt panels are some big panels.

Victron is 10 times as expensive as Voltronic

A Multiples not Quattro inverter? I thought the highest 120V MP was the 5000 (4kw actually) available in 48V only. The smaller multi pluses are usually cheaper per kW on the used market. But they're made up to 1500 (12kW) in 240 volt 48V.

    Need to Reduce solar voltage!!

A lot of building codes require the wire to have circuit protection 1.56 times ISC. 10 AWG solar has a maximum of 30 amp SP if ran outside. This makes the maximum panel IEC 9.61A when paralleled (19.22 total). Panels above 350 watts (sometimes less sometimes more depending on number of cells and...

Off-grid minimal garage. Am I on track?

Shouldn't be 10% that often at all. Do you mean 2 400 watt solar panels or 2 200 watt panels. With 800watts of solar you are definitely "over paneled" for a 2000 kwH battery. If your battery is 12 volts it's ok to charge with 15 amps. If 24V 15A would be a little high for lead/AGM but ok for...

Victron is 10 times as expensive as Voltronic

I got a Multiplus off eBay for cheap. Fingers crossed it works... The European voltage multiplexes come in higher wattages. You could buy two Multiplus 5000s. (their only 4kW each I guess) or 4 Multiplus 3000s (2.4 kW x 4 = 9.6kW)

Disconnect a series panel in cold weather

Does the seller have any left. Could you get a 4th panel and series parallel (2s2p).

    Need to Reduce solar voltage!!

2 sets of wire is two strings not three.

    Need to Reduce solar voltage!!

    2s2p is 4 panels and 3s2p is 6.

I am in sticker shock, it is so expensive (wire rant)

Check out Cable Cabana on eBay. They have pretty good prices. While there are some bulk wire websites that are cheaper, the ones with the cheapest wire often require large order minimums. In my case Hawaii is usually excluded from the free shipping.

    Need to Reduce solar voltage!!

The difference in voltage drop between 94V and 142V is insignificant. The main determining factor in voltage drop is amperage. If you add another PV circuit (2s3p/3 circuits) you will have the same average per circuit as 3s2p. It might be cheaper to buy a higher voltage mppt then the wire...

Top balancing tail current? How low?

Thanks for the reply. I had read that when I was first getting started it is very helpful. It says to change the cells at 3.625. Other places say 3.65 as does the seller of the cells I'm using. I'll turn the voltage down to 3.63 (my charger doesn't have 3 decimals) if I have to leave them...

Top balancing tail current? How low?

Thanks for your help. The way the charger is designed using ring terminals on it wouldn't work well. It's just bigger then a #10. I tried drilling the ring terminal but it always got very bent up or broke by the time I got it there. Also tried filing it with similar results. I don't have a drill...

Top balancing tail current? How low?

Even with the full 10 amps it'll take a week to charge all 16 cells. I do have a multi-plus but I don't want to go to all the work of setting the BMS up and then taking it all apart to rearranging the cells again to top balance all the cells with each other. I'm top balancing sets of fourth for...

Top balancing tail current? How low?

Thanks for your help! For some reason I wasn't getting notifications on the form even when I clicked on the notification icon. Not that anyone has to answer my question but I appreciate it. Will Prose said almost zero and other places talked about tail current. I wanted to make sure I didn't...

Top balancing tail current? How low?

I'm charging sets of 4 100aH cells fortune/frey in parallel (3.2V 400aH cell packs) to capacity test them. They started out at around %65 SOC. I am using a 10 amp bench charger. Using the cheap leads that came with the power supply I can only get 4.6 amps. Even after adding ring terminals on the...

Are equipment-supplied cables really big enough for 100A?

You could draw or charge at 500 amps if your not drawing through the BMS. Assuming you have a 2000 aH battery and appropriate battery cables. What I said doesn't really make sense because if you wanted to do that could get an external BMS.

Are equipment-supplied cables really big enough for 100A?

You could power a tiny power supply with the bms and use it to control the inverter relay if it has one and/or a battery disconnect device. Not only will you not have to worry about the wires but your BMS might last longer.

    Multiple thermistors?

Is there a device that monitors multiple (dozens maybe?) thermasters/temperature sensors and sends a signal (example: relay circuit interruption) to trigger a action in another device. If you had temp sensors on cells but only one BMS temp sensor port. Is there we wait to have multiple sensors...

Is 1.56% ISC for non OCPD conductor

Does the ampacity of the negative wire need to be 1.56% the ISC current rating of the panels (all panels in parallel) or can it be 1.25%? The positive side of the circuit will have OCPD and the wires before the circuit protection device will be rated 1.56% ISC. The negative connects directly to...

Mismatch Series / Parallel in 5 Panel Configuration

Out of curiosity, I'm wondering does anyone know if it's dangerous to have three panels on one string and two on the other going to a combiner box as OP said or is it just bad practice? I realize the fifth panel wouldn't be useless in that configuration. However, a six panel could be carried in...

Mismatch Series / Parallel in 5 Panel Configuration

I added up the VOC of the panels before my original comment and thought they were a bit close with 3 of them for the 150. The panel voltage for three solar panels on 150 should be the same as 5 on 250. The 300 volt would definitely be better. Less wires and no combiner box doing a small build...

Mismatch Series / Parallel in 5 Panel Configuration

Can you return the charge controller? You could get the 250 victron 250/70 or 250/85 mppt instead and connect all five in series. Or trade some one your large MPPT for two 150/35 or 45. Do away with the combiner box as you will only have one string per charge controller.

    Equipment ground size question.

I have a EG4 solar air conditioner. I'm using 10 awg wire for the positive and negative and the positive is fused at 15 amps. The panel ISC is 9.69 A. I used a 12 awg to ground the disconnect to the combiner box. The solar panels are grounded to the main breaker using a 6AWG wire. That circuit...

    Solar panel ground.

What size ground wire do I need for panels with a combined ISC 132 amps. This is the ground wire that attaches to the rails that the panels are mounted on. The panels will all be in parallel. Do I multiply this number by 1.25 or 1.56. Some website say #6 is good to 200 amps for grounding solar...

Derating 3+ solar source wires inconduit

Thanks for your help. The 6 awg wire doesn't have any circuit protection. I was going to use #4 or #6 wire between the 63 amp DC mini breakers and the charge controllers. The 6 awg wires in the conduits only have 26.32 amps each and connect to separate isolated inputs on the charge controller...

Derating 3+ solar source wires inconduit

It's not really parallel wiring. I don't know what to call it. The controller has two sets of MOSFETs and diode connected to each wire but one output. They're not really the same circuit.

Derating 3+ solar source wires inconduit

The conduit is longer than 24 in. There are 8 awg wires carrying positive current. Sets of two wires are combined in a charge controller thing. Together the sets are powering a 1200 watt heating element. 1200/36 = 33.33 amps. As there are two wires per controller, each wire should only be...

Derating 3+ solar source wires inconduit

The wiring question though is running to a Electrodacus DSSR50 there will be another wire with two solar panels also connected to the DSSR50. The DSSR50 output will be connected to a load of 1200 watts at 36V. The wire should only see half of that. So the why are amperage would be approximately...

Derating 3+ solar source wires inconduit

How do you derate multiple solar wires conduit? The wire will have 26.32 amps. 1.25 (80% rule) x 1.25 (solar source/cloud edge effect) = 1.56. If there are more than three current carrying conductors in a conduit? Does the multiple conductor derate get added to that or is it included already...

Does anyone think this pump is good?

I guess that's a peripheral pump. I probably need a centrifugal one though. I take this bag purple pump will work great for my application as I don't need much head height.

Does anyone think this pump is good?

That's only 2 gpm. The one I linked to is 11 they did have a 1/2 hp version that delivers 9 gpm and might be better as I wanted to use 8awg wire. Too much voltage drop could burn out the motor.
  35. J

Does anyone think this pump is good?

Ok but is it junk or not? I couldn't find any reviews on YouTube or anything. It's made in China but so are my lithium batteries and they're good.
