How to charge a Lithium Battery from spare power from a grid tie PV installation.

Thanks for that update. Do you think there is away I could use this switched power to charge a battery?

How to charge a Lithium Battery from spare power from a grid tie PV installation.

The voltage the immersun gives to a resistive load like a immersion heater must be variable as it adjust to the surplus power going to the grid to the immersion to about a delta of 60w only going to the grid if it can be diverted elsewhere.

How to charge a Lithium Battery from spare power from a grid tie PV installation.

We have to remember that my immersion could be provided witn 30w to 3000w depending on the difference between what I’m generating and what the property is using. This can be variable all day depending on the sun and property usage.

How to charge a Lithium Battery from spare power from a grid tie PV installation.

My home outlets are grid tied to my solar PV inverter, on a sunny day I use less grid power as more power comes from my PV inverter. In the UK we get paid on our power we produce not what we give back to the grid. Hence companies like Immersun produce a diveter unit. This measures the amount of...

How to charge a Lithium Battery from spare power from a grid tie PV installation.

Thanks for the idea. The switch would be On or Off when what I would like is the same as my immersion heater it can take a varying power source from the Immersun. The idea is to use as much power from the grid tie PV inverter without using any mains power from the grid.

How to charge a Lithium Battery from spare power from a grid tie PV installation.

That’s my Immersun. In the UK we get paid for all the power we produce from our grid tie PV installation. This type of device allows all power to be used when I produce more than the property is using by diverting the variable spare to resistive loads ie immersion heaters or simple electric air...

How to charge a Lithium Battery from spare power from a grid tie PV installation.

The diverter units ( immersun ) divert power to a resistive load like an Immersion heater to heat hot water in your hot water tank. I need a charger or solar charger controller to take the variable voltage like a resistive load and charge my lithium battery with excess power I do not use at...

How to charge a Lithium Battery from spare power from a grid tie PV installation.

I’m not sure if a straight battery charger will work when it’s source is a variable voltage AC from a home PV grid tie inverter using spare power. Ideally it needs a charger with a Lithium profile but that would need an intelligent charger. That’s my problem.

How to charge a Lithium Battery from spare power from a grid tie PV installation.

How do I charge lithium batteries from spare power from home grid attached PV using a diverter box that heats hot water using an I immersion. I now wish to divert the spare generated power to a lithium battery. Note the diverter box works with immersion heaters as it’s a resistive load. Hope I...

Lithium battery full in RV good or bad long term?

Thanks Mike, I’ll have a look tonight. I was thinking about winding down the Victron MPPT and the Victron B2B

Lithium battery full in RV good or bad long term?

We have Victron charger controller but on lithium setting it will keep the battery full? What and I missing?

Lithium battery full in RV good or bad long term?

Thanks for the reply. The problem with lithium in RV’s ( motor homes ) the solar keep them charged. So when it’s not being lived in the battery will remain full for weeks. Ours in the UK will be stored for a few months during the winter.

Lithium battery full in RV good or bad long term?

I have a question re fully charged batteries. I have a DIY 12 volt pack I built with an Overkill BMS. I have always thought that a lithium battery does not like being fully charged for long periods, if this is correct how do I compensate for my battery in my RV ( UK Motorhome ) being fully...

    Victron BSC IP22 12/30

I’m still confused. The Victron BSC 12/30 charger has three levels: Absorption Voltage Float Voltage Storage Voltage How do we set these levels when the Victron MPPT levels: Bulk Voltage Absorption Voltage Float Level Anybody used both these devices together? How do we set these up? I...

What would you set the bulk and float voltages to?

    Victron BSC IP22 12/30

Sorry read your reply wrong. You wouldn’t use the BMS to control the charging?

    Victron BSC IP22 12/30

That’s what I was thinking set the charger at power supply to 14.2 volts. Set the MPPT to lithium mode. Not sure on the B to B yet, haven’t open the box. Do you think the 14.2 volt set on the charger is ok?

    Victron BSC IP22 12/30

Normally I will be using the Victron MPPT with PV on my motorhome roof to charge. Only using the BSC 12/30 when on site on mains power to quickly charge. But would imagine I have the same question with the Victron B to B between my vehicle battery and my new Lithium Leisure battery.

    Victron BSC IP22 12/30

A configuration question: When I charge my 280ah battery should I use the Victron in Charger or Power Supply mode set to 14.4 volts and let the BMS control the charging? I will be adding a Victron Battery to Battery for the motorhome and probably have the same question. I haven’t looked at the...
