New 12kw install but the numbers don't make sense

With the holidays; just waiting to hear from them.

New 12kw install but the numbers don't make sense

I was thinking the same thing. I mean right now, it's working.. it's generating power.. only those like us who are into Solar as a hobby would likely investigate further. Especially in Australia where solar is very common now and often made exclusively as an economic choice with no interest by...

New 12kw install but the numbers don't make sense

Thanks Svetz. I agree with your thoughts. Maybe more like 2pm rather than midday for peek generation in the specific timezone I am in and exact panel orientation but yeah.. there is an issue with PV1.

New 12kw install but the numbers don't make sense

I managed to get the output of data directly from the inverter if anyone is interested. The forum blocks *.xls uploads though.

New 12kw install but the numbers don't make sense

Dthames, I like you cardboard checking method. This could eliminate the possibility of certain panels not being connected at all. What would the results be if it is 18+10 in parallel and I shade one of the panels from the 18 group? Edit: My roof is corrugated iron with a 33 degree pitch so it's...

New 12kw install but the numbers don't make sense

My math works out to show that PV1 is 82.96% the average voltage of PV2. If PV1 were a string of 10 (should be 14) and PV2 a string of 12 (as it should be) then this works out almost perfect for the expected 83.33% (10 divide by 12)

New 12kw install but the numbers don't make sense

Luckily it is under volting rather than over. The installer just came out this morning to check it after 10 days or so of it generating. He says it's all good and that "Voltage always changing". Well the voltage seems rather consistent to me with the larger array consistently lower. My hunch is...

New 12kw install but the numbers don't make sense

No shading issues. Australia. As the amps go up to 19 on PV1 vs 9 on PV2 then the parallel string seems correctly to be PV1, but yes it should be a higher voltage imo. I think the installer messed up the wiring of the parallel strings.. but it's not easy to check.

    That's my question!

New 12kw install but the numbers don't make sense

No battery, just a grid tied system. :)

Thanks for setting up this forum Wil.

Hey guys, I've been watching Wil's videos for the last year and he does a great job. He explains things very well and his excitement is good to see. I myself have loved solar since I was 5 years old playing with 3v motors, bulbs and wires. I had a 5kw system installed on my last house 7 years...

New 12kw install but the numbers don't make sense

Hey guys, I have recently had a 12kw system installed in Australia and I suspect there is an issue. I'll hold back on saying what I think is the problem to see if anyone comes to the same conclusion. Perhaps you won't see a problem! (like my installer..) Panels: 40x 300W Canadian Solar...
