PV voltage drops ~60% when connected to charge controller (Victron 100|50)

Sallaben, I appear to have the exact same problem. If you are still interested, it may help to check out my thread at: https://diysolarforum.com/threads/mppt-and-series-solar-panels-don%E2%80%99t-output-full-voltage-current-until-10-30am.52428/

MPPT and series solar panels don’t output full voltage/current until 10:30AM?!?

Just as a quick addendum for anyone interested: After 10 or 20 minutes or so of cloudy sun, then with the bright sun coming back fully out of the clouds, I found that this MPPT solar controller will go back into its original problem (the MPPT's display showing only 13V input and 3.6A output)...

MPPT and series solar panels don’t output full voltage/current until 10:30AM?!?

SOLVED! Thanks guys for all your help, and especially to MisterSandals! I got up early (for low temperatures), opened up all the connections and took the OCV of all panels. They tested perfectly. I then put them back in series and tested the OCV of the entire string. Perfect. I then...

MPPT and series solar panels don’t output full voltage/current until 10:30AM?!?

Hi guys, Thanks for the responses! To answer the questions: There is no shading of any of the panels at any time. I also adjust the panels throughout the day so as to point directly towards the sun, both in azimuth and elevation. I am at a Latitude of 34.048927 (Arizona). No clouds in the...

MPPT and series solar panels don’t output full voltage/current until 10:30AM?!?

I hope someone has an answer for this. My 4x 100W Renogy solar panels in series and my new MPPT solar controller (EPEVER 40A/150V) will take two hours in the morning to output any meaningful voltage and current. For instance, at 9AM with *full* Sun exposure here in Arizona, the MT50 digital...

I have to set controller to 18V to get full charging current to 12V BB batts. Why?

Thanks Bob, you hit the nail on the head: I had a Chinese SAE sex changer in the 10 AWG line, and it had so much resistance that it was melting. (I had touched it and it actually burnt my hand.) So, I thought I might as well go whole hog and I took the solar controller from its waterproof RV...

I have to set controller to 18V to get full charging current to 12V BB batts. Why?

Since the controller is PWM, they are wired in parallel. Each panel is around 22V.

I have to set controller to 18V to get full charging current to 12V BB batts. Why?

When using my 60A PWM solar charge controller (model BSC6048) on the “LiFePO4: 3.2V-4S” setting versus the controller’s other LiFePO4 setting of “3.2V-5S”, I only get half the charging current (10A) to my two parallel BB 12V batteries with my 4 x 100W parallel connected solar panels. In other...

Very low RV solar panel output under clear skies?!?!

Hi Short_Shot. Me memory be so bad 2! I never checked where or even if the built-in solar wire is connected to the new Li converter. And for all I know, they could have also used 20AWG wire. (After all, it would have saved 99 cents on our $30,000 RV!). So I don't know for sure what the...

Very low RV solar panel output under clear skies?!?!

It may have been solar ready, but they didn't mention that in the RV's user manual, and I had no extra wires left over when I had to replace it because it couldn't fully charge Li batteries (it was made for lead-acid only).

Very low RV solar panel output under clear skies?!?!

Hi Bud. I installed the Renogy solar system, and immediately had this problem. But the RV manufacturer installed the defective internal solar wiring at the factory, which should have been rather idiot proof, as the wiring (of course) need only go from the external bulkhead SAE connector...

Very low RV solar panel output under clear skies?!?!

Thanks for all the help, guys! I followed the testing procedures as laid out by rickst29, Zwy, and Short_Shot, and discovered that the solar output current didn't change whether there was a single panel connected or all four connected to the solar controller (about 3A). This led me to believe...

Very low RV solar panel output under clear skies?!?!

Yes, we are on the north side of 260, just off 117 and a few hundred yards away from Greens Peak Lookout and the Apache Reservation. Lovely area, but it refuses to stop endlessly raining. I'm getting cabin fever, but we can't seem to find any other areas within a few hundred miles that don't...

Very low RV solar panel output under clear skies?!?!

Thanks Zwy, I have a few wire piercing probes, so I will perform those tests ASAP. The panels all have blocking diodes, and I carry spares just in case. I like the idea of eliminating the MC4's, so I just may take the time and solder the wire harnesses together (connectors, of course, are...

Very low RV solar panel output under clear skies?!?!

Thanks Winnie, but yes, the panels are very clean from the endless rains we are getting here in "sunny and dry" Arizona.

Very low RV solar panel output under clear skies?!?!

I should have made that clear, but my 200Ah of battery's State Of Charge was only 50% when I attached the solar system to the RV...

Very low RV solar panel output under clear skies?!?!

We just set up your Renogy solar system for our RV. It consists of four Renogy 100W 12V Monocrystalline Solar Panels, wired (10AWG) in parallel to a Renogy Wanderer Li 30A 12V PWM NG Charge Controller, then on to our twin 100Ah BB 12V Lithium batteries (in parallel). We are in Arizona (White...
