to cheat or not to cheat... that is the question

It is the FEATURES I want, not the cost, that matters most to me. Saving on the bill is my 5th level priority. My first is to have power when the grid is down. Insulin in my refrigerators is far more important to keep viable

to cheat or not to cheat... that is the question

yeah, they look good and have some nice features, yet their core capabilities (battery size, panel capacity) are LOW. That is why I built my own dolly based 3000 watt Growatt with a 2.5kwh battery. Has a 20 amp circuit and was $1300 at the time and 5 times the capacity of the packaged $2000...

to cheat or not to cheat... that is the question

My XW Pro does have a grid input on AC1, but I have that breaker OFF, all the "normal" time. I do not have netmetering at all to charge on those dark winter days and nights, I use the Chargeverter to charge the batteries and run house loads. I use the inverter's AUX port (dry contactor) to...

I get two power bills at my house so now I'm looking into solar.

I am trying to grasp where 4300 kwhr goes per month WITHOUT AC, like mentioned above a heater running? got water features? Energy Audit for sure with empirical sensors

What happens if the panel draws more than the inverter can output?

Beginning installation of Schneider XW Pro/EG4ll batteries V1/MPPT 100A 600V OFF-GRID only questions

yes, like hwy17 said it will be fine. I just wanted to explain the why of where the single N-G bond should be placed. given the panel is right next to the xfer switch, its okay. The feature of the N-G bond is implemented where you have it

Beginning installation of Schneider XW Pro/EG4ll batteries V1/MPPT 100A 600V OFF-GRID only questions

yeah, agree he mentions in the first video, he could put the bond in either the disconnect or the panel. Being off-grid has some advantages

Beginning installation of Schneider XW Pro/EG4ll batteries V1/MPPT 100A 600V OFF-GRID only questions

okay I used the phrase "the first means of disconnect" on purpose, as that is the requirement in the NEC for the location of the N-G bond. The transfer switch is the first means of disconnect. Just so you know where it comes from. I like watching this electrician, he is in New Jersey. He...

I get two power bills at my house so now I'm looking into solar.

you will find many solar companies have their own selections of product they will install and nothing else. My son had a system installed and they did SolarEdge stuff great stuff, but only other SolarEdge stuff will work with it. To top it off, the team that installed it shutup shop and are...

    Water heater and electric stove

my tankless works with pre-heated water. I made sure of that when I bought. It just uses the nat gas to heat up the delta from inlet temp to its temperature target. if the temp is already there, it simply stays off and lets the hot water through without assisting in heating it theory of...

Beginning installation of Schneider XW Pro/EG4ll batteries V1/MPPT 100A 600V OFF-GRID only questions

so that is a picture of your system at the moment correct? then you are replacing the disconnect switch with a transfer switch, right? and replacing the meter box with output from the schneider? the XW Pro becomes your power source and the new transfer switch becomes "the first means of...

I get two power bills at my house so now I'm looking into solar.

way to go, especially in my birth city So far this year, did not buy any grid power since march 3rd. hopefully that can continue until late october. Just added to battery, 10kwh - hope that helps I need more panels, and also more battery it is a LOAD HUNT for sure

Must I use "PV" wire for runs inside attic space?

THHN/THHN-2 in EMT, MC, etc just fine

now that can be very beneficial even without any solar panels 2-3 18wPV and batteries, no solar to start with and do the TOU time shift, yes

wow - Do you have 400 amp service? or since you have TWO bills, 2 200 amp services? well I guess we know why $2500 a month

I get two power bills at my house so now I'm looking into solar.

good work on the H2O. Retired last year myself, I know the value of not spending on things that can be cut out of one's life Identifying what loads consume what power helps drive the design or load replacements you might consider Emporia VUE monitoring...

    Build a system in phases?

I believe it is an excellent choice. My son just did the upgrade from 2 EG4 6500EX to 2 EG4 6000XP I think one unit would work fine for your loads BUT design and build the 1st phase with the possibility of 2 or even 3 XPs, added later update: start with 2 XPs with design to have 4 XPs, that...

I get two power bills at my house so now I'm looking into solar.

power sinks for sure you can approach things one load at a time or go full bore and do Netmetering with just AC coupling back in 1993 I swapped out 50 light bulbs for florescence and dropped 33% it works yeah, weird light switch Will has several mini-splits, on video if you saw them

I get two power bills at my house so now I'm looking into solar.

list all your loads - you probably have big AC units. look at reducing loads but keep level of comfort you want. Mini-splits, swap out all out lights for good LEDs get a Kill-A-Watt and measure your appliances, all to get an idea of where your power goes for know which loads you can swap to...

    Water heater and electric stove

I have a XW Pro inverter 6.8kw, future I will have 2 when my battery is full and sun still shines, I run division load with a 20 amp 2 pole breaker with 10/3 romex to my PRE-HEATER tank. I swapped out the 4000 watt coils with 3000 watt coils to reduce the draw on the inverter. the...

Beginning installation of Schneider XW Pro/EG4ll batteries V1/MPPT 100A 600V OFF-GRID only questions

agreed, it will work fine. for myself I am helping my son with his two EG4 6000XPs and this is how I am teaching him for exactly the phase matching issue. Since the XW Pro does the phase matching inside the PDP and only one conductor comes out to the panel it doesn't matter really either...

Beginning installation of Schneider XW Pro/EG4ll batteries V1/MPPT 100A 600V OFF-GRID only questions

yes to get a feel for things, turn off power to panel and use a VOM to check which main lug connects to which busbar. helps to see that

Beginning installation of Schneider XW Pro/EG4ll batteries V1/MPPT 100A 600V OFF-GRID only questions

look at your pics, at the top of the panel. the two lugs on the "back plane panel". Black hot is installed on the left lug which matches the left busbar. busbar stubs starting at the top, row one is on the left busbar.

Beginning installation of Schneider XW Pro/EG4ll batteries V1/MPPT 100A 600V OFF-GRID only questions

maybe, but if using EG4 6000XP and 2 fedback breakers, mixing the hots screws things up. Just being consistent then with the main lugs. just following a common pattern of deployment to reduce issues

Beginning installation of Schneider XW Pro/EG4ll batteries V1/MPPT 100A 600V OFF-GRID only questions

I also have my black hots on the top of the break with red on the bottom. your Panel has black on the left main input lug at the top of the busbar, and your red hots on the top of the two breakers. that puts red on the black (left) busbar when having 2 or more inverters, phase consistency must...
