Slow boat from China, batteries are here!!

All great issues. 1. I have plenty of room and a 10,000lb tractor 2.I have enough solar panels to cover three 40 ft shipping container roofs. My house load is nowhere near the typical home. 3.I'll be using this system on a daily basis. 4.I don't mind the watering, I tend to keep a close eye on...

Slow boat from China, batteries are here!!

I took this from an article I found, History: Nickel Iron Batteries Have a 100+ Year Track Record Thomas Edison patented and produced Nickel Iron batteries in the early 1900’s, designing them to be “far superior to batteries using lead plates and acid”. Nickel Iron batteries were used in the...

It's "loses", not "looses" (and other grammar lessons)

I find is highly amusing that some of you are intentionally using the wrong word,....and nobody will bite.

Thanks, it's hard to get the right info if nobody is looking at the specific question.

OK I have panels and batteries,....now what?

Hey guy, the info you need might not get to you. You should start a new topic in the beginners section.

OK I have panels and batteries,....now what?

Finally, my batteries are on a slow boat from China. As long as the thing doesn't sink or my container doesn't fall off,.....I should get them on January 12th a Tampa port.

Need Advise on First Solar Power System for Conversion Van

I do the same, I don't even turn on my heater until it's in the 30's outside. I use a diesel block heater and anti-gel in my fuel for cold starts down to 0. I also use a 12v electric blanket sometimes (in the 40's, it's too hot in the 50's), this is very efficient as well. If I plug it in at...

OK I have panels and batteries,....now what?

I'll do that. I'm leveling the containers next week, then I pick up the batteries at the port just before Christmas. Once the welding of the multi position bracket is done (I have a full 11 am to 4 pm direct sun and can tilt the panels winter to summer), I can mount the panels and start wiring...

Need Advise on First Solar Power System for Conversion Van

That draw is correct, and the small size is like a semi cab sleeper for you. I never used an RV gas heater, but I do know that you can dial the diesels down to a minimum after start up.. I have 4 deep cycle RV batteries (group 29's from Walmart) in 12v that I use for the system in my semi...

Need Advise on First Solar Power System for Conversion Van

Even though it's a small space to heat, using an electric heater will murder your batteries. One night you'll fall asleep and forget to shut it off and your batteries will not be happy. I'm in the trucking industry, maybe you could mount a 5 or 10 gallon diesel tank and have it supply a webasto...

OK I have panels and batteries,....now what?

Yes, the battery size is substantially more than I need, but when the wife gives to go ahead to build a solar project,...what would any guy do? I also have 120 feet of shipping container roofs that are going to be used to add more panels. Currently the panels I have will all go on one.

OK I have panels and batteries,....now what?

Thanks, I'm doing just that but felt I had to introduce myself and get started with advice from people who have already been to the moon.
