Weird. I have 2 of them now and don’t have any issues with it. I only use modbus communication and have a home automation computer keeping tabs on them. Maybe I have a couple that weren’t built on a Monday or Friday lol

What are your thoughts of Will Prowse’s videos on the EG4 version of this inverter? Ignore if this was brought up already in this thread. I had no where near the issues he is having.

I have one running 24-7 at my house. Setting up one at my in-laws house. Once you get the settings figured out they seem to work great. 9mwh ran through mine so far.

This may not be the case anymore but when I bought mine a year ago GSL mentioned the inverter was not designed to run off grid without batteries. I know you are still connected to the grid but it may have something to do with how they have the code written.

Some of the others here may have a better updated answer but from what I have heard is that load 2 settings are not implemented yet on the firmware. It would be called smart load I believe when it is available.

Did you try to set it to lead acid, set the correct voltages and then set it back to lithium?

Yes. Mine from GSL contained the instructions.

Same, I had broken CTs but my father in law, just got the same inverter and it was packaged and shipped better than mine was. Also no broken parts.

It does have some bugs but for its price point and features it’s a lot of bang for the buck. I’d buy again

I am not sure you can but the dongle does have the ability to do that. Which is what I was kinda worrisome for me, having a device ran off a server in China with the ability to control the power at my house. This is one of the many reasons I got rid of the wifi dongle and only went with modbus...

Are what loads are you using? Are you maxing out one or both legs of 120v?

I gave up on SA and their locked access. I ended up making my own data logger which seems to work better for my needs.

Also I would be running the RPI off a USB instead of the SD card, there are ways to do this with the Pi. I have other Pis running web & sql servers for years without a storage write/re-write issues.

No, it's Raspbian Buster it runs on. IF you mount the sd card with the SA image on it with another linux EXT4 system, you can see it has the same structure and also when you boot, it will show you it is Buster in the boot journal on the HDMI screen before their custom scripts run and lock it out.

FYI, that doesn’t work. I am a little upset in my purchase of Solar-assistant. I do like how it functions when it’s running by itself. However, I don’t like how it locks you out of your own open source device and open source OS. The developer wouldn’t help with access either. It may be just me...

2.5 is a weird reading. I wouldn’t think the SOLARMAN dongle would work with less than 3.3v. Maybe measure between the ground pin and 5v pin?

If somebody gets a minute and is able to use a digital multimeter, can you check the pinout I just posted was how mine is setup? The 5v pin to the inverter chassis ground screw should measure around 4.5v dc, ground screw to gnd pin should be 0 volts and the remaining 2 to ground screw are around...

Hey all, I was wondering if you guys are able to still get into the command line via ssh or using the hdmi with keyboard? I am trying to have the Pi run a few other jobs besides just SA. Also does anyone know where they save the definitions file for the inverters?

Switching the wires to the ones shown from solar assistant now at least does not get a communication error but still doesn’t get a response as expected. I will have to try reading more up on minimalmodbus to see what I’m missing.

I have also tried using pin 7&8 to try and communicate with no success. Not sure exactly if that port can be used for polling registers or not.

I just 3D printed a plug to replace the SOLARMAN end for wire connection so I do not have to butcher the SOLARMAN adapter. Once I get the data communication to work with the usb, I may use a double pole relay to switch which device is the master on the modbus. Such as, let the SOLARMAN record...

The one from the SOLARMAN pdf matches the solar assistant but the actual stick logger pinout numbers don’t match which I hope is what has been throwing me off.

If you look at the PIN numbers on those 2 images, pin 2 would line up with pin 4, etc.
