BMS active balancer becomes unbalancer as cells age

I've noticed in my packs of 16 cells (not single cells) that heat of even as little as 2°C effects what the pack contributes to the bank. Where I have two stacks of rack batteries 7 high and I see the cycle counts higher on the top packs. So much that I shuffled the top to bottom (I know...

    Luyuan battery case

Ok. I use "Alnox Electrical Joint Compound" at work, which has some grit in it. I'd think that grit would hold up my flat surface contact area. I use some other connectors that have blue grease in them and I'd like to find a tube of that. The nickel plated connectors (#4 lugs) are what I've...

    Luyuan battery case

With regards to dissimilar metals, what are you recommending for prevention? Nickel plating or maybe some gel like anti corrosion paste? My Basen-Green kits didn't come with crossover bars, so I had to make jumpers. Now I'm trusting my crimped connection. Any of the braided bars I found were...

theoretical order of cell by capacity

I tested a couple of them and ran a test on one of them three times (all different results). My tests varied a couple Amp hrs and were all less then the EVE test (291 ~ 294), but more than 280Ah. I paralleled and charged the pack of 16 that had the test cells, but the others were assembled...

theoretical order of cell by capacity

Here's the cell capacities on my last battery build and cell location. I'd say the cells are close in capacity, but not identical. 301.832 ~ 301.573 (as listed on EVE factory spread sheet). On 1st charge the passive PACE BMS balancer got them to 180mV ∆ at 56V pack charge, 4A Neey took about...

theoretical order of cell by capacity

I was going for faster. Seems having the highest capacity at cell one and the lowest at cell 16 would cause all circuits to shuffle the difference across the pack.

theoretical order of cell by capacity

I staggered my cells high-low-high-low.... My thinking is, the active balancer would move the charge between high and lows?

    Pace Bms Protocol changing

Good deal 👍, I'm out of the house now. Here's the video from Andy about the differences between the multiple software for the PACE BMS. In case others search this issue.

Earlier on, there were two versions. One was for changing the protocols, Andy may have a link for Jakiper batteries?

I've got a few PACE BMSes, I just don't remember needing to change that. I can check my newest ones as I haven't put them in a network yet.

    How to pick solar panels?

Here's your Panel Calculator . And some near by used panels listed here on the Forum's for sale page. I'm located 4-5hrs north of you in Michigan and have panels that have about 40 volts (VOC) each. My strings were limited to 8 (panels in series), you may find that to be true also after...

    Electric/propane water heater?

X3, Rinnai and Geothermal desuperheater here. Rewired elements in series, so both thermostats require heat and lowers amperage draw on SolArk15k. When ever that's not enough, the tankless propane tops it off. 500gal of propane lasts us over 3yrs (including stove/oven and dryer), it's backup...

    A ton of LiFePo⁴ cells

The circled component is what went up in smoke (this one is still working). There are plugs at opposite ends of the board, the leads are too short to mount the board at the front of the battery case. The Neey is supposed to do 24S, I pulled the extra leads (enough wires in there already 😄)...

    A ton of LiFePo⁴ cells

Are they drawing conclusion from @Alkaline comments? That because, the cells are all basically charged before reaching 3.65v, they must be grade A? For sure I'd say they were well matched. Maybe Gobel sees premium cells as all being near some high tolerance point? Either way, it's not me...

    18650BatteryStore.com or Sunfunkits.com?

Here's a picture, the long Display cable goes to the backside of the BMS board. The leads that go to the cells are marked on the back of the BMS (pin out), cable #3 is missing a wire because cell 8 is already in cable #2. BT0 is 1st cell negative then BT1 is 1st cell positive and the rest are...

Are these LF280k? & How many amps are stock bus bars rated for?

18650 Battery Store Legit? Will not answer the phone.

2080 cells and none of them match yours? And confirmed, the silence is disheartening. I'm looking for four LF280K V3 cells on an EVE report that 18650 has yet to send. The cells are very nice with clean QR codes and test above 304Ah (not sure about matched n batched), but communications are a...

    A ton of LiFePo⁴ cells

Here's the test subject: 1st discharge; 292.5Ah Recharge;. 293.8Ah started @ 20A, but got impatient. 2nd discharge; 291.0Ah .19mΩ @ 2.89V (after discharging) Running 40 amps through 10ga leads was giving off heat, so I'm not sure if that energy was being counted in the test. I'll...

Is this a legit way to wire spd’s?

Kinda looks like it, if the leads on the SPD are longer than the distance to what's being protected? Mine are in the fused combiner box. If the SPD faults, then the fuse should open too.

    A ton of LiFePo⁴ cells

Still nothing but crickets from 18650. Talked to a lady there that looking up my email and said, "she'd forward it to management". I put the 4 new cells on a EBC-40, zketech and got these results. I'll test one of the SFK cells soon and compare to the EVE test sheet that SunFunKits promptly...

Some quick pix before going to work. I'm seeing some hex in there. And I'm sure 18650 is selling legitimate goods: 04QCB76G40703JD9F0008513 High res pix are in thumbnails below. 1st is SFK and 2nd is 18650 (hexagonal). Testing will start as soon as I get home.

    Mixed 280ah Cells

Good to hear, I too am putting together a 16s with LF280 cells. I have a balancer I could install at this time, but Will has had bad luck with them, at least HelTec and keeping things simple is the best plan. How much is too much?

    A ton of LiFePo⁴ cells

All of the LF280K V3 cells are over 300Ah. But I wouldn't mix the 304 with the 300 in the same battery (matched batch or not). If that last group of 16 is good enough for a BMS that has balancing, those other 9 will surely be primo. Either way, I ordered 4 more cells that should push that low...

    A ton of LiFePo⁴ cells

Thanks. My day job kept me busy for 18 days straight, so not much happening at home. I ordered 4 more cells, this time from 18650 (small order price advantage), because out of 240 cells, I received 160 and the highest and lowest of the bunch (was missing cells from the middle). I'm not sure...
