Anybody bought there batteries from Trophy lately?

Bought 2 220ah's a little less than a year ago, and no issues at all. And yes, Dan (owner) is a great guy to deal with.

    Volts but no watts 18k

Not sure if this is your problem, but I recently had an exact experience - on a newly installed array, I got the correct array voltage, but no power (current) at all. Finally traced it down to totally loose fuse bus bar screws. I had purchased a Midnite solar combiner/disconnect & specified...

    Schneider XW6848+ Cleanup

My older XW has two screens located on the bottom of the inverter - one on each side. I had a problem getting to mine as I had originally installed a Midnite Solar E-Panel directly to the bottom which made it difficult to get acces. Mine is also wall mounted, and I did not remove anything...

    Schneider XW6848+ Cleanup

Agree on cleaning the oem fans, and adding other(s). My 12 year old XW6048 fan screens have an extremely fine screen and I found it completely scovered with lint and dust. The XW is mounted inside my house so very little dust, but over time.... I recently added another PV array, with the...

Jack Ricard on UL-1741 and utility tapering, thoughts?

Does anyone know when grid tied inverters began to incorporate this feature? I have a 12 year old Schneider, and I don't think it has this capability.

Jack Ricard on UL-1741 and utility tapering, thoughts?

My monthly statement shows the amount I sell back to the utility, as well as what I purchase from them. If they see a signifacant change in reduced usage and/or increased sell-back compared to historical data, that would trigger a closer look to see what is happening. While I don't imagine...

Jack Ricard on UL-1741 and utility tapering, thoughts?

Oh, I doubt that! The utility could easily monitor your usage and sell-back to generate reports for closer scrutiny. And with these newer smart, reporting meters, they can get very detailed reports on what is changing with your PV system.

Jack Ricard on UL-1741 and utility tapering, thoughts?

The idea to lock in the 1:1 net metering, and then add on later may not be a perfect solution. Twelve years ago I installed a PV system on my home in Louisisana, at the 1:1 net metering - great plan. Now, I have read recently on this forum that the metering regulations now require the...

    Victron

I have two of the Victron 200ah batteries. They have performed just fine for the last several years, and the bluetooth connection has also worked perfectly everytime I have used it to check on the batteries.

Metal vs Asphalt Roof with Solar?

One suggestion I would also add, is to not go with a dark metal roof. The darker the colors (red especially), the quicker they will fade, and to a greater extent. I do think the green panels shown above, match my wooded surroundings, but if I could do it over again, I would go with simply the...

Metal vs Asphalt Roof with Solar?

If you plan to stay in your home for a while, or pass it down to your kids, I think using a metal roof is a great decision. If your son and his buddy are up to it, have the ability, and if they use one of the residential 'snap together' standing seam roofs that are available, they could do it...

    Leaning into solar from Texas

Hello Bud, and welcome to the forum! There is so much info & good advice here, and with your background, you should not have any problem installing your own system. I installed mine 12 years ago, and without the wealth of info that is presented here. As far as your desire to plug & play...

I have been thinking how the term harvesting solar is more than just a cute term and should be considered literally

If you can get free, or nearly free firewood, definitely go with one of the newer wood heaters. We purchased a Silent Flame woodheater, with catalytic secondary re-heat back in 1985. The newest heaters don't use the catalytic system any more, and are just as efficient with their re-burn...

Metal vs Asphalt Roof with Solar?

No rails needed if the proper clamp is used. I forgot the company name, but they (and others), make clamp profiles for any number of different roof panel seam profiles. Fairly easy to install, just get the first row straight! And go from there.

Metal vs Asphalt Roof with Solar?

I went with a residential, snap together, standing seam roof approximately 15 years ago. I did it myself, so the cost wasn't too prohibitive. Later I installed solar - very easy with the available clamps. No roof penetrations, except where the PV wires are combined & sent down through the...

Signature Solar ? Important Announcement ?️1/15/2024

Whats funny, is that years back, my wife was doing a little consulting work up in Detroit during the winter, and one day there was a pretty good snow storm. Well, she drove in to work at the business that day, while every other female (except one), stayed at home & did not come in due to the...

Signature Solar ? Important Announcement ?️1/15/2024

Being from north Louisisana, I agree that we do kinda freak out when the precipitation turns solid. But we really don't get snow, we have ice. And that, is a totally different animal. NOBODY can drive on ice, even you northern folks. Well, unless your tires are studded, I guess. I remember...

Deciding between Victron, Enphase and possibly Sol-ark. Input?

Maybe it is just me, but looking at 20 microinverters, over a 20 year span, how many will fail? I have no experience with these, but I damn sure know I would not want to get up on my roof, somehow pull out a panel located in the middle of my array, and change out the microinverter. My 12 year...

HOW DO I BEGIN TO THWART THE UTILITY COMPANY

Maybe start with a new split phase, more efficient heat pump? That would ditch your 3 phase service & would probably make installing a residential solar system a bit easier. That 3 phase service may cause more problems than it's worth. Disclaimer: I am not an electrician

WaterFurnace Series 7 – Total Cost Breakdown

Thanks @AlyGreen, that is a very comprehensive write up on your new Geo system. The costs do blow me away, but you are in PA, and you had it professionally done. The information given will undoubtedly help many folks. Twelve years ago I did a renovation on a 22 year old lake house camp. We...

Want to go Solar so many options

"My thought was to get them in while net metering is still an option to help them pay for themselves. PNW sucks for sunshine, but also like the fact that i could have power if anything ever devastating happen to the grid. Would use the power company as my battery for now and then later add some...

    Anti Schneider posts

@Horsefly, agree with you on the Victron stuff. A couple years ago I installed an all Victron component system in my Sprinter, including 2 of their 200ah batteries. Although I have not used the van extensively, all has performed very well.

    Anti Schneider posts

My grid connected XW6048 has been very reliable. Twelve years old, with never having been turned off - no issues. Swapped out original AGM's with Lithium this year. Had to turn off unit for that, restarted after, and no problems. Would buy another in a heartbeat. Seems like the Schneider...

    Dielectric grease with LFP anyone?

I recently changed out my 12 year old Concorde AGM's for lithium, in my home system. The battery bank was located in an inside, partially conditioned space. Against my past experiences, at the time of original connections, I did not apply any type of protectant to the battery terminals. When I...

Schneider XW Pro Enhanced Grid Support issues

My older (original), grid tied XW6048 has always done this. There are times during good PV production, and with a full charge, the batteries will show a few amps in and out. I always thought this was 'normal'.

    Did I do it?

I had an almost identical problem happen. I was adding a 3rd 4800w array to my existing system, with a separate combiner/disconnect & MPPT. I finished wiring the array very late in the afternoon, but was able to check the voltage at a juction box on the roof - it was showing somewhere over 100...

    Help me choose new batteries

@YurtSolar, that 75/15 Victron is for 12 or 24 volt only. You would need a 48v MPPT. Good news is you would only need one. You could wire the 3 panels together in series (as long as the voltage of the panels did not exceed the MPPT rating). The wattage of the three panels really would not...

    Help me choose new batteries

Take a look at Trophy batteries. They have had some good reports. The owner, Dan, is very responsive and answered all my questions when I was trying to decide which lithiums to go with. I purchased two of the 48V 220ah ones back in February of this year, and they have been troublefree. Take...
