Roof Rack Mounts - Where and What to Buy?

My installer used.. RoofTech Rt mini mounts The install looked pretty easy, they didn't have to worry about hitting a rafter every time. My project/plan paperwork included the PE signed letters. Paired with Iron Ridge rails.

Converter a Pentair 342002 to solar

.. I have a variable speed pump and when it starts the motor starts at a high rpm, immediately, to prime the pump - no ramp. I think you need to account for the starting surge.

Federal Tax Credit and State Sales Tax questions

Federal: FWIW I took it literally - the year it is installed, not commissioned or turned on or PTO. Those all happen to be the same for me so maybe I didn't try to disect it as much as I sometimes do. I am including the cost of stuff purchased in prior years.

    Finding panels by dimensions.

It is just a shed roof, east/west facing, one side has a skylight. The east side is 3400x1700 mm. Bit of overhang would be fine I think as well as multiple small panels. Mainly I was trying to make the search a little more efficient. The ca.gov spreadsheet should help a lot. Might even think...

    Finding panels by dimensions.

Is there an easy way to search/find panels by their dimensions? ... Other than looking through spec sheets one by one? For example , I want as much PV that will fit in a 1700x1400 mm area.

    Will power company notice?

They have the data. They know your past usage, they have access to PVWATTS, they may even have their own customized PV model. If it was your company what would you do? Maybe run an audit every once in awhile and compare usage against agreement. Use a threshold to trigger weekly or daily audits...

What's so bad about selling to utility wholesale?

I was toying with this idea but being new to all this I am inclined to stay within written specs in my net metering agreement. The electrician that did my install said it would be  ok because for all they knew I could just be reducing my usage (we were discussing adding a few more panels/micros...

What's so bad about selling to utility wholesale?

For some reason this thread got me thinking about small off grid  application specific additions to my grid tied system as an alternative to adding grid tied storage. Specifically a system to power a (or some) mini-splits to assist my 35+ year old undersized air conditioning during peak rates...

Is Enphase good/worth cost for microinverters for small system? Why don't many people do smaller systems?

Do you need the extra power? If you can get the microinverters at a discount maybe just get a couple more micros/panels. Clipping isn't nessarily bad. I wish I had a bit more power.

Is Enphase good/worth cost for microinverters for small system? Why don't many people do smaller systems?

I have IQ7+'s (290W AC) with 400 watt panels. They clipped between noon and 4 pm in May and June. My ratio is 1.38 DC:AC which I think is too high. The IQ7A (366W AC) would have been a 1.09 DC:AC ratio. 1.09 is probably too low but I think the incremental cost over the + would have been worth...

Is Enphase good/worth cost for microinverters for small system? Why don't many people do smaller systems?

Consider using the IQ7 series (minor cost savings) if you don't need the IQ8 enhancements. I recently had 14 IQ7+ installed with 400 watt panels. I looked at the IQ8 specs and decided I didn't need its main feature - grid forming. I do wish I had used the IQ7A - the IQ7+'s are clipping for about...

Question on Sizing Inverter for 40K-50K Watts of Panels

Choose a brand/model inverter that will satisfy your near term needs, maybe one of the 12 or 15 kW models then add more as you buy more panels. Be sure to plan for all the additional space, wiring, and maybe sub-panels.

    Growatt N-G confusion

    Growatt N-G confusion

At work (power plant) we always see stray voltages and typically discount them until recently when a stray voltage wasn't. The company bought us all stray voltage adapters for our meters. Often that stray voltage is used to verify contacts closed or open on a circuit that might change state...

Planning to troubleshoot my Enphase system. M215 inverters

Anywhere you can easily get to a wire with the combined ac output from the inverters. I just thought it might be an easy way to tell if they are actually producing. Do you normally consume all that you produce? If they are connected to the grid what does your utility meter read? What does it...

Planning to troubleshoot my Enphase system. M215 inverters

Can you easily get to the wire(s) where the AC outputs are combined (do you have a combiner box)? If so you could put a clamp-on ammeter around it/them and see how much they are actually producing.

    Enphase's Envoy, my experience

I gave up on my isp provided router a year or two ago and bought my own. Wish I had done it sooner. I was able to get rid of one of my extenders. My combiner/Envoy connects to my router through one interior wall and one external wall (stucco with metal lath). Sounds like your Envoy might be...

My SolArk 12k install with Enphase Micros

So your  original micros are still grid tied and you are adding capacity with PV/micros connected to the generator input of the inverter? No DC PV connected to the Sol-Ark? A simple single line would be a good addition to this thread. Are you using all IQ7's or are there any IQ8's?

Newbie question: How do nem2 and nem3 solar credits work in CA?

Guess I'll have to wait and see. Based on the usage I downloaded from PG&E I'll probably be a net producer during off-peak winter rates and net consumer during peak summer rates.

California PG&E NEM 2.0 deadline - plan submitted or operating?

Anybody have a feel for upgrades to a system say a year from now? If you have an existing NEM 2 agreement then want to add either battery or solar capacity after the April deadline will the process force you to NEM 3 (NBT?)? I haven't thoroughly read the NEM 3.0 documentation yet. I just...

Basic topology still relying on grid

A little clarification - I won't have enough solar or battery to supply my load or sell back to the utility but it will be enough to handle a large percentage of the loads. Basic topology still relying on grid

I'm not interested in off-grid. Are there two basic topologies inverter/all-in-one between utility and loads? meter -> inverter -> loads inverter in parallel with the utility? meter -> loads <- inverter Is "grid-support" when the inverter is in parallel with the utility? If the inverter...

Hello from the California central coast.

230 volt inverter. I won't have a generator. One question I haven't looked for yet: I know the inverter will use both solar and the battery at the same time if it needs to, but if those sources are not sufficient the inverter just switches to the utility and it won't use either of those DC...

Hello from the California central coast.

Recently acquired some Solar stuff from an estate. I've already read a lot and could set it up to power my pool equipment this weekend for an experiment. - maybe a 1kw load. It's probably a bit undersized for my house, it was originally intended for a garage/shop. Just trying to figure out...
