    Air conditioning a conex

Well, if you know how much power is being consumed by and produced by what is in the conex, the difference is the waste heat. Convert kWh to btuh. We can mostly ignore ambient temp if ambient plus some delta is the k for internal temp. Then solar gain. Instead of calculating it, I’d shade the...

Anyone in the US still on the Starlink wait list?

I get 100+ down and 12-15 up (sometimes up to 20). Worse in heavy rain but that's pretty rare and still doesn't impact me noticeably. It is for sure faster than my DSL was. I started with a Commodore 64 and a 300 baud modem in high school, so maybe my standards aren't as high as yours :) But...

Anyone in the US still on the Starlink wait list?

Well, I am on calls (audio or video, always sharing docs/desktops/whatever) all day long, working from home as a very senior engineer (software architect) for a very large company whose computers/monitors you likely own. Starlink works great for me. I did keep my DSL and a router that could load...

Ok to parallel CT sensors on dual Sol-Ark 15k install?

The default CTs shipped with the 15K are 1-3/8" 300A actually. At least that's what mine came with late Fall 2023. Not sure why.

    Cheap Insurance: Surge Protection

If you want really effective surge protection, MOVs are not the way to do it. Look at SurgeX stuff.

Is it good idea to use Plywood Sheet for mounting Inverter, MPPT and Breakers etc

Code for indoor battery closets is 5/8 type X gypsum (fire rated drywall). Walls and ceiling. 1/2 plywood behind that where you want equipment and you are good to go. Not saying the other options posted are unsafe, just pointing out what code requires (for batteries, but a pretty good...

Anyone in the US still on the Starlink wait list?

Well, it has no motors because they don't need to be pointed as precisely now that they have ~5000 satellites instead of a few hundred that they started service with. I have a first gen, so I can't compare personally, but there are tradeoffs either way. Maybe the newer dishes don't always get...

Ok to parallel CT sensors on dual Sol-Ark 15k install?

I was wondering the same thing. Makes no sense to me that it can't measure more than 111A. If you ever get an answer or you get to talk to them, please ask. But... Maybe limit to home is more about accuracy around 0A than it is about 200A or 400A measurement? Admittedly you couldn't measure net...

Ok to parallel CT sensors on dual Sol-Ark 15k install?

Interesting. They do sell 400A CT sensors for the 15K, so it is probably OK to use theirs and they can say what ratio setting to use.

Sol-Ark 15K - where to put the grid side current sensors?

I talked to Sol-Ark today at length and they do not recommend paralleling CT sensors at all. Very unfortunate, but that is what they told me. They cannot say how accurate or inaccurate it would be so they don't think it is a good idea. I don't need to use zero export mode so accuracy isn't...

Stacking and Angling Panels to Increase Output

5x current panels would be over 100% efficient. It must suck in light from other nearby square meters :-)

Anyone in the US still on the Starlink wait list?

They put 80% of the world’s mass into orbit in 2023 - 1200 tons. 2/3 of that was Starlink :-) They are expecting to bump that up 50% this year. By 2025 Starship should be launching too, at 150-200 tons to orbit PER LAUNCH! Don’t worry about their launch capacity.

EG4 LL-S Lithium Battery coms cable?

I had to ask. They certainly didn't say their shipment was incomplete when they sent the batteries. I didn't make a separate order, I contacted their customer service and said it was missing and they said they'd send it. They also didn't send the RS485 cable that was supposed to come with the 6...

Anyone in the US still on the Starlink wait list?

They’ve actually been launching about 100/month lately, and that is the much more capable v2 mini variant. When they were launching the v1 variant the first part of the year (mostly, it tapered off during the second half) those were smaller and lighter and they were launching about 250/mo of...

    Extending CT sensor wires

I'd like to extend some CT sensor wires, let's say 25 feet. What is best practice for that? What current to they carry/what gauge is needed? Shielded wires? Twisted pairs? Shielded pairs? What effect does putting it in EMT have? Do CT wires influence each other if several are run together...

@cooldog Have you tested out the parallel CT sensors with your 15K? Did it work as expected? Thanks!

Timezone setting is probably off, either on SA or in your client. Or it's a bug in SA.

Is such a thing as off grid internet possible?

I know someone up on a mountain that has a very directional antenna and mooches wifi from a mcdonalds down in the valley below (a couple of miles). That's about as close as you are going to get I think, if there is an open/free wifi within LOS of your property (or a tower on your property).

backup inverter for longer grid outages

Looks like it would fit as a partial, off-grid, 15K replacement pretty easily. 2 480V PV instead of 3 500V MPPTs would be fine.

Sol-Ark 15K - where to put the grid side current sensors?

My sol-ark 15k is going inline in a 100A subpanel feeder but I will be net metering. I have a 400A service, which routes from the meter base to two adjacent outdoor 200A main panels, one of which has a 100A breaker that will feed the solark (inside) and subpanel (inside). What are the pros and...

    AC disconnect location

Are you sure about that? Around here a physical manual lockable disconnect from grid is required by power co. A DC shutdown for the building is also required for fire responders, in my case with a big push button that will trigger RSD on the panels to de-energize the PV wires. The disconnect...

    AC disconnect location

Ask your inspector and power company. That is what matters. The outside disconnect near the meter is probably the only required location (especially if you are selling or net metering power back to the grid).

backup inverter for longer grid outages

Under $2000 if possible. I don't want a $7000 Sol-Ark 15K sitting on the shelf for sure. Although that would be good EMP protection :-) Both charger and inverter. I don't mind rewiring if/when it becomes necessary. The PV wires aren't difficult to move (and extend if needed). With a ~6K...

backup inverter for longer grid outages

30 kwh will last me several days, maybe a week, without water heater or hvac. "long term grid outage" means "run out of fuel for generators" (I have two, one gas and one propane). Think weeks or months. Basically indefinitely.

backup inverter for longer grid outages

As a backup for the sol-ark failing of course. Two is one and one is none.

backup inverter for longer grid outages

Let's say I have a grid tied sol-ark 15K with 30kwh of 48v batteries. If there is a long term grid outage, what is the best way to economically have a backup solar charger/inverter on hand? Another 15K would be great, and maybe that will happen along with 2 or 3 more strings of panels in the...

Solar levelized cost of electricity is 29% lower than any fossil fuel alternative

Yes, with no facts or even specific claims to support that point. That is supposed to impress me? Think! Is filling the SPR considered a subsidy? Probably. Building roads is considered an oil industry subsidy by many. If, for example, the gov finances or even outright pays for port facilities...
