Giandel inverter neutral-ground bond in off-grid system

Yep. That’s what I did. Just check continuity (or lack thereof) between ground and neutral. My G-N bond is in the panel and goes out to a grounding plate (all my grounds go to it).

Tiny Home System Tested - Ready to Take out to Lake

Finally finished piecing together my system today. What is not shown is the solar combiner box with lightning arrestor and the 2x 345W QCell panels. Also, as this was a test of the system the grounding was not in place (the permanent system will). The system will be horizontally mounted. The...

'Main Panel' Question - Square D 30 Amp Panel - Off Grid

Update on panel and breakers. I decided to go with one 30 amp breaker. I will use the outlets from the inverter in the 'bunkie' / tiny home as its only 150 sq ft. I will run one 30 amp line outside to an RV plug as I also have a trailer - if needed I can use an adaptor plug outside for 15 amp...

BURCAM 3/4 HP Pump with Soft start

I posted this in the Tiny homes sections - maybe it is better here? I found this pump I am looking at using next year (just finishing off my solar project this year). I like the soft start inherent with the pump. Max current draw of 15 amps (starting) and about 7 amps running at 120 Volt...

'Main Panel' Question - Square D 30 Amp Panel - Off Grid

Max 15 amps. I attached a picture of the pump I selected.

'Main Panel' Question - Square D 30 Amp Panel - Off Grid

Thanks all - largest load will be a soft start shallow well jet pump rated at 7 amps. I just wanted the potential to use the max inverter capacity if I ever need it (and likely won’t). I think I will likely do the 2x 15 amp circuits with inverter direct to the panel lugs. Also I was looking at...

'Main Panel' Question - Square D 30 Amp Panel - Off Grid

Ok so I have a small system - all I need to do is connect the pieces now that it's all mounted. The Giandel does NOT have a ground-neutral bond so this will be done in the panel. QUESTION: Should I put one 30 amp breaker in the panel acting as my main disconnect with a second one feeding my...

Just Found These - Multi-Voltage Heating Pads for Cold Weather

Hi all, I am building a 24 V system in a Canadian climate and just found these heating pads: https://www.heatingelementsplus.com/ultra-flexible-heat-blankets/24-volt-ultra-flexible-heat-blankets.html they list 12, 24, 36 and 48 volts as inputs (depending on what you order). I'm not sure...

Giandel inverter neutral-ground bond in off-grid system

Thanks. I have checked the inverter manual. There is no internal ground neutral bond and it does not 'float' or switch. The ground of the inverter (Giandel 24V 3000W) is only attached to the ground plugs of the AC output.

    GROUND headache

Ok. Here is a curve ball. I am looking at mounting panels on my seacan- off grid. My main ground is at my tiny house from the panel which is where the ground neutral bond is - 100ft away. I was going to run a ground from my panels to the main grounding plate - but I could just tie it onto the...

Guide me where I went wrong

Ok - if the house box is grounded, then the AC side is fine as you'll be running a ground from the solar shed to the panel correct? You may want to look at grounding of the solar array as you do not want a ground loop from the house to the shed (i.e. you do not want 2 grounding points within a...

Guide me where I went wrong

Shouldn't there be a main fuse at the battery? I do like that you have separate fuses to each inverter. I would guess you may want a 250 - 300 amp fuse immediately off your battery on the positive side - maybe I'm missing something though.

    24V System Check

    Decided I will use a T-fuse : 300amp. I took a look at some ratings on 3000 W inverters. Any thoughts?

    24V System Check

Thanks again. Yeah, I'm going to run weeping tile for my cabling and install a pull cable for future if needed. It is a bit more work for sure - people always told me you don't buy a cabin you buy a project . . . .

    24V System Check

I could go 8 ga. You are correct. I have about a 5% voltage drop with 10 ga wires. I loose 17W per panel (34 watts total) with 10 ga. With 8 ga there is a 3.1% voltage drop (1.18 volts or 10W per panel 20 Watts total). So I would gain about 14 W total if I use 8 ga. I look at the cost...

    24V System Check

Thank you! With the temperature correction up here in Canada a 94 VOC can turn into a 110 VOC at -20 Celsius. So I would need to go bigger on the charge controller for 15O VOC or more with another panel going in eventually. That would increase my cost by about $350 - 400. I was thinking...

    24V System Check

Hi all, I am installing an off grid system for my bunkie at the lake (a few years off from the main cabin build and I am tired of running a generator). I would appreciate any feedback / comments regarding the schematic attached. I will not have a generator back up / transfer switch. I wasn't...

Single String Combiner Box for Fuse, Breaker, Lightning???

Nice set up. As a newbie, I have a question regarding the grounding in your combiner box. I see a grounding bus bar, but no grounding in or out of the box. so my questions are: 1. is this just a bonded system to the panel box? 2. Is there something I am not seeing where you run the ground to a...

Giandel inverter neutral-ground bond in off-grid system

Ok, so I spoke with my electrical engineering friend about this grounding and yes, you would only ground at the panel. You would treat the panel as a main panel where the neutral bar has a lug that screws down to the panel and the ground lug goes to earth ground. So when the ground bar/lug is...

Giandel inverter neutral-ground bond in off-grid system

you are correct - it does not appear to have a ground neutral bond (I just wanted people - myself included - to check. I am sorry for the poor wording. It says the chassis and ac ground are bonded. To me this means you either: 1. ground the inverter to earth from the grounding screw or 2...

Giandel inverter neutral-ground bond in off-grid system

I also found this in the Giandel manual: 6. Connection 1) Grounding The power inverter has a terminal on the rear panel marked " Grounding "or " ". This is used to connect the chassis of the power inverter to the ground. The ground terminal has already connected to the ground wire of AC output...

Giandel inverter neutral-ground bond in off-grid system

Hi all, I am looking at a similar problem with Giandel. I have not yet purchased Due to topics on this thread. I found the following video which appears to tackle this problem. I will also be purely off grid 100% solar only. It appears that Giandel advises against doing this 'fix'. I am...

Parallel MPPT Charge Controller with All In One?

I am looking at powering a tiny bunkie at my cabin but will be expanding once the main camp is built. I was thinking of going to a 48V all in one system. I am totally of grid (21 km from the nearest power line). I will be running a jet pump and air conditioner plus a fulltime ductless HRV...
