Continuing DIY or give up DIY to buy already assembled battery?

If you can get used modules from EV's, DIY can save you a lot... For example 2020 and newer Hyunday modules go for as low as 100 EUR/kWh, when buying in small quantities. On the other hand, I would not bother with Tesla modules anymore.

Epever app blacklisted and removed from play store

I feel you. I have 12S li-ion, i.e. the voltage is lower than the standard 48V, so when changing any of the first parameters, the protection always triggered and did not allow saving. It turned out to be much easier to configure from the bottom up.

A few questions about the use of DC-AC inverter in the EV for charging

Thanks. I was just planning to buy 4-6 EV6 modules for this project. I had thought about replacing the leaf's batteries completely, but considered that more of a theoretical possibility when the current battery drops to 60% SOH or less. Now I'm still at ~78% SOH (17kWh) and that's enough for 90%...

A few questions about the use of DC-AC inverter in the EV for charging

Scrapyard has a few contactors from EV's to choose from. What BMS would you use for 12S 200Ah battery? Or do you mean contactors "as the BMS"?

A few questions about the use of DC-AC inverter in the EV for charging

I found post in victron forum, where someone complains, that 48V Victron can discharge to 38V only in standalone mode, but only to the 40.6V in ESS mode. But I think, even 40.6V will be good for me and will leave safety margin to not to discharge too much. I plan to charge to 4V/cell only and to...

A few questions about the use of DC-AC inverter in the EV for charging

Hi, I would like to extend the range of my Nissan Leaf in the winter. I'm thinking about a 8-12 kWh li-ion battery and an inverter in the trunk to charge 6-8 kWh while the EV is parked for a 3 - 4 hours in the area without a public charger. I can buy locally automotive quality li-ion modules...

Tigo Optimisers on a string with 2 orientations not optimising as hoped

You are correct. According to the specifications, 125V should be completely sufficient for the inverter’s MPPT to start and operate in MPPT mode. However, it is unclear whether at such a voltage it can actually perform a full search for the best working point and is not stuck at the local...

Tigo Optimisers on a string with 2 orientations not optimising as hoped

Optimizers work as DC-DC down (buck) converters. Lets pretend you have all 8 panels in one direction, but one of them is shaded and it produces only 2A@33V, when all the others could produce 9.4A@33V. In this case optimizer would convert shaded panel's 2A@33V down to something like 9.4A@7V and...

Do Tigo TS4-A-O optimisers actually work?

Don't know how much Tigo optimizers would help. In my case huawei optimizers with huawei inverter definitely work when bypass diodes not so much: https://diysolarforum.com/threads/when-did-bypass-diodes-become-common.70855/post-898256 I don't have place for more panels, so that's not an option...

December PV starting off crappy again.

According to meteorologists, this December 2023 was also the least sunny for us. A couple of cities, including the capital, had less than 3 hours of clear sun. A bit better in my city, but 7 kW array produced only 31 kWh.

    Pricing in used panels

Very few buys used when price ~0.15 Eur/W. Seen poster, where same stock stuck for months now. No wonder. New Chinese modules have halved in price since last year (price with 21% VAT at local depot): RISEN 400 full black - 0.19 Eur/W, TRINA S+ duall glass black frame- 0.19 Eur/W, JINKO 575...

adding micro inverter for additional panels

Thanks. Additional 600W@230V would be 2.6 Amps and perhaps is not considered a big problem where I live, because required minimum for copper wire is 2.5 sq.mm (12-14 AWG) to any power socket.

adding micro inverter for additional panels

Interesting. There are talks in my country to let anyone produce up to 600W without any special agreement. Implying there will be connections to nearest wall socket.

adding micro inverter for additional panels

EU, UK has different grid, code and standards. Post autor stated, that he already has grid tied solar, so he already has covered that side of things, if he will not exceed his backfeed capability as per agreement. It would be interesting to know more about the "particular way to provide...

adding micro inverter for additional panels

Microinverters can work that way. I tried cheap gmi-700 (700 chinese watts, 400-500 real watts, ~90 euros from ali 2 years ago), connected to ~600W half cut panel. They work. I don't think they would pass inspection.

Can shading be dealt with by parallel strings

If new panels are only half volt higher, than something is really weird. Maybe your charge controller gets very confused by slightly higher voltage and can't find MPP? In your case optimizers will not help, because at 5-7W per panel, optimizers will eat all additional production for powering...

How many watts of solar panels?

But still, it looks like you didn't read until this sentence: "Even then, "full sun" in December" is a bit less than "full sun" in June because the sun is lower in the sky and has to pass through more atmosphere to get to the surface of the earth." And from Warpspeed's previous post: "It...

    Too many panels in parallel?

OK, sorry, I take back my words about guiding electricians. You have 30 panels that you plan to arrange in three directions, an inverter with three MPPT inputs. Great. x98myers7 asked very good questions. Until they are answered, general guidance would be: you need to arrange the panels in such...

    Too many panels in parallel?

Are you sure you understand correctly what the installers are telling you? It seems like a lot of guidance for electricians from someone who doesn't distinguish between series and parallel connections.

When did bypass diodes become common?

One case is with net metering and different with net billing. From 7 am to 11 am, the price of electricity reaches 10-20 euro cents/kWh + grid charges. At 12 am price can go down to 5 cents/kWh or even lower. Today we are still with net metering, but it is only a matter of time before the grid...

When did bypass diodes become common?

Nope. The area you defined in red, shows how much would be generated additionally, if all 10 panels had optimizers. In my case, It's only around 10 am that the last of the 10 panels completely gets out of shade, so in my case the optimizers help produce the energy shown abow the blue line. Yes...

When did bypass diodes become common?

IMHO bypass diodes are not comparable to optimizers. My system: one string from 10 panels (half cut cells), connected in series. 4 least shaded panels are without optimizers and 6 panels with. Morning begins with all panels in shade from nearby roof. When sun rises, panels gets out of shade one...
