Is off grid (PV+Battery) better than grid-tie?

Recommendations for Hybrid Grid-Tie and Battery backup Inverter
Hello. I am in Texas, just north of Houston and get plenty of sun (and heat as of late!) Currently installed: I have 1500W of PV tied to a 1KW cheap Grid-Tie inverter.
