Hi Guys

Need some help to see if i understand it correct. For example lets say i have a system that is generating 1000 W and my house is using 500 W that means i am of the grid for at least this time and not consuming anything from the grid ?

Secondly if i generate 1000 W and my house is pulling 1300 W do i only pay the utility for the 300 W i could not generate or do inverters not work in this way

Pretty much, although your terminology is a little off.

If you have a connection to the grid, you are mostly "on grid" all the time, unless the inverter disconnects. It will stay connected so it can be in phase and instantly switch to grid when needed.

If you are producing more solar than consuming, you either leave the excess at the panel, charge batteries, or export to the grid.

2nd part is right.
