Getting ready to go.lithoum and bump up to a 48 volt system. Currently have no issues with a 20 year old Outback 3524 inverter and only replacing it because I'm looking at server racks and 48v.

My debate lands in how the 3524 lands right in-between a multiplus 3/5k, maybe closer to the multiplus 5k.

I do have a compound miter saw, small thickness planer and soon a 120v cabinet saw in the shop(need to rewire motor from. 240). Currently the Outback runs it all with out issue, but I can provide 4000VA for 30 seconds, 5400va and surge right to 6000va.

Initially was leaning towards the multiplus 3k, but 2400va seems low for starting up the power tools, while the 4000va of the 5k is more inline with the current system.

So, extra 600 bucks for the 5k?

3k is 3kVA with a legit 6kVA surge.

5k is 5kVA with a legit 10kVA surge. I have 2X Quattro 48/5kVA in 120/240 split phase. Never had an overload even with running 2X RV rooftop A/C + other loads with one unit.

I would expect the 3kVA unit to definitely handle the surge on anything with a run current of 10A/120V. You would need to follow the fairly conservative wiring guidance as they over-spec the crap out of them. DC ripple is a big enemy of their surge capability, so they try to minimize it with thick cables.

All that said... for $600 extra, I'd just go 5kVA and waller in its lusciousness.
