i just put 2 300AH Epoch batteries (victron enabled, heated, etc) in my fifth wheel. sadly it sits in the sun on the side of my house in las vegas a lot of the time. the bats are in my front compartment out of the sun. they are hooked up to a victron quattro 12/3000/120x2 which maintains them.

it still gets pretty hot here. not sure what to do other than remove them and store in my garage, kind of a hassle.

anyone else in similiar situation? any ideas on what to do? if anything?

I've had lifepo4 batteries sitting in the Texas heat for several years now. With the low cost these days, I am not concerned that their lifespan "might" be reduced a bit.

If I was living somewhere where it gets Hot a LOT like Vegas in the summer, and I had free reign over my land, I would get one of those concrete bunkers they put underground for utility purposes and put my batteries and inverters and controllers in there. That way they stay a bit more even in temperature.

BTW, I am in Phoenix, AZ right now and I would do that if I wasn't in an HOA that might notice the work being done.

I feel your pain... it's fricken hot here

Manual says 45C/113F is fine short term and 35C/95F for long term. I would assume that is battery average temperature not peak air temp for the day.
No reason to have them in the air conditioning but maybe out of the direct sun.

I WOULD LOVE a bunker!

If the system is in actual storage, I would:

1) remove them and store in a climate controlled environment. Would be better for the inverter too to simply have it off in the extreme temps OR
2) turn the system completely off and disconnect the batteries. No need to run the inverter or float the batteries.
one problem is,,,,the damn quattro needs a 12v source hooked up for it for shore power to pass thru it.

It gets low 100s here in summer, and often 99% humidity... i have a 12' trailer i am working on setting up a system in.
I have a setup in my electric box truck (semi mobile storage building) the panels are laid out in the field, and the truck is parked under trees, so it doesnt get much over 100F inside)
The trailer would need to be parked randomly at jobsites, with panels on top, so shade would be negative to function...
I am planning to install a tiny minisplit in the trailer running off the solar. I figure, set to 90, the system will remove the minimum heat, and keep the batteries, and my tools comfortable.

Well if ya wanna do it right , build a really big one with a sloped paved entrance and back the whole RV down into it… that will solve the prob and Be a cool place to go hang out at night

But rembember , the HOA if any , will perk their ears up at the first bucket of dirt be moved…tell em yer build a man cave …
Expect a sorta rude response from them….. 🤣

That’s a rediculous temp to exist in…

That’s why I won’t come down the mountain yer way in the summer.. 82 up here is killing me .

I Have to run for cover above about 75….

We saw the 50s last night so it improving… fall ain’t far…..

You arent wrong...
On the scorching humid days it is nigh impossible to exist outside...
Today was 100% humidity, sprinkling showers, and a high of 89...
Tolerable... but far from comfortable.
I wear glasses, and EVERY TIME i step outside or exit my van i am blind for several minutes...

Ok to put a fan on the battery compartment overnight to absorb any chill that is available.
I do that ever nite… it stays cool in there till around 1.00 the next day but then where I live isn’t as hot as most of you guys… I do have a 5000 btu a/c unit I can turn on for 2-3 hours a day if it really gets up there…it runs off it’s own inverter off the batt bank…not the multi…

I haven’t needed it this summer…as all my stuff is inside an insulated trailer I generally just open the door about 1.00 and it will sit around 80 ( or ambient ) till dark and then cool off at night.

I do not ever let the batts sit on a charger at a high SOC and be in hot temps …not being used .
I will drain off about 35% and then shut down the Victron stuff let them sit and rest if it’s hot and not being used..

That’s just my way…everyone has a different idea.
